1 day agoKansas City Royals first base prospect Derlin Figueroa enjoyed a breakout game at Low-A on Sunday. In this contest, Figueroa went 2-for-2 with two long balls. He brought in six runs and drew four walks. After going 0-for-4 in his last game on Saturday, Figueroa got himself back on the scoresheet in a big way. In their season opener on Friday, Figueroa tallied three singles and swiped a bag. The 21-year-old spent the entire 2024 campaign with Low-A Columbia and dealt with some growing pains. Across 118 total games, the infielder held a modest .223/.303/.364 slash line with just 16 doubles and 13 home runs. He swiped 15 bags but held a 49:108 BB:K. However, it appears Figueroa has begun to take the next step early in the 2025 season. If he continues to produce, he should move up to High-A in the coming weeks.Source: MiLB.com
1 day agoMinnesota Twins reliever Griffin Jax blew a save opportunity in Sunday's 9-7 extra-innings loss to the Houston Astros. The 30-year-old punched out three batters but allowed three hits and two earned in the outing. Jax entered the contest with a 7-5 lead, letting up an Isaac Paredes single and Yordan Alvarez two-run shot to open the inning. Christian Walker then doubled to center, but Jax was able to retire the next three batters via the K. It's an outing to forget for the righty, who has afforded his opponents at least one hit in each appearance thus far. He's in no danger of losing his role as the primary setup man and has historically been a better reliever. Still, 2025 has started shaky, as he holds an inflated 10.13 ERA.Source: ESPN
1 day agoColorado Rockies catching prospect Cole Carrigg went 3-for-4 on Sunday with his first long ball and stolen base at the Double-A level. After tallying at least one hit in each of his first two games at the level, Carrigg enjoyed a breakout showing as he hit his first round-tripper at this level and tallied four RBI. This was also his first time reaching first base multiple times in a game this season. Carrigg spent the majority of the 2024 season with High-A Spokane and held a strong .280/.358/.475 slash line with 16 doubles and 16 round-trippers. He showed elite speed as he swiped 51 bags and held a solid 50:97 BB:K. The 22-year-old has looked quite comfortable holding a .385/.429/.629 through three games with Double-A. Given that he spent the entire 2024 season with High-A, he will likely only be in the mix for a late-season taste of Triple-A.Source: MiLB.com
1 day agoChicago White Sox infield prospect Chase Meidroth went 3-for-3 with a double and a home run during their victory over Norfolk. Meidroth drew two walks in this contest and tallied two RBI with four runs. Meidroth went deep in the sixth frame on a two-run shot, which also scored Zach DeLoach. This was another impressive outing for Meidroth, who has enjoyed a strong start to the Triple-A regular season. The former fourth-round selection was in contention to make the MLB roster out of camp, but may not need to wait long to make his major league debut. Through the first seven games of the Charlotte Knights season, Meidroth has tallied three round-trippers and held an overall .333/.500/.750 line. Fantasy managers in AL-only formats should continue to monitor his development.Source: MiLB.com
1 day agoThe Boston Red Sox have traded pitcher Quinn Priester to the Milwaukee Brewers for minor-league outfielder Yophery Rodriguez, a competitive-balance Round A draft pick, and a player to be named later, or cash considerations. Boston acquired Priester from the Pittsburgh Pirates at last season's trade deadline. Though the 24-year-old hadn't entirely adjusted to his move last year, he pitched to a solid 3.21 ERA and 1.07 WHIP (33.2 innings) with 36 strikeouts in seven starts for Triple-A Indianapolis. On the other hand, Rodriguez hadn't shown much in Single-A ball with the Carolina Mudcats in 2024 but started this season scorching hot at High-A Wisconsin, batting .417 (5-for-12) with a double, triple, and three runs scored. With Milwaukee's rotation depth in disarray -- including the most recent injury to Nestor Cortes (elbow) -- a move was necessitated to bolster their reserves.Source: Milwaukee Brewers
1 day agoAthletics outfielder Lawrence Butler went 2-for-5 with a solo home run, two RBI, and a run scored in Sunday's 12-5 loss to the Rockies. The 6-foot-3 left-handed slugger, who signed a big off-season contract extension, got off to a slow start to begin the year, going 4-for-24 (.167) over the first seven games, but now has three consecutive multi-hit efforts during which time he is 7-for-14 (.500). The 24-year-old is now hitting .289 on the young season with four extra base hits, two RBI, six runs scored, one stolen base, and a fantastic 6:5 BB:K. It amounts to a .370 wOBA and a 142 wRC+ for the former sixth-round draft pick, who should continue to be a strong fantasy producer hitting atop the A's lineup.Source: ESPN
1 day agoColorado Rockies outfielder Brenton Doyle had a productive day at the plate in Sunday's 12-5 win over the Athletics, going 3-for-5 with a double, a solo home run, four RBI, and three runs scored. It is the second three-hit game of the season for the 26-year-old, and he's collected a hit in seven of nine games, now hitting .268 with five RBI and four runs scored on the young season. A 4.7 percent walk rate on the year (career 6.5 percent) has limited his ability to get on base, which also appears to have hindered his stolen base production, much to the chagrin of fantasy managers who were counting on that when they drafted the speedster who owns a 91st-percentile sprint speed and swiped 30 bags in 2024. His next chance will come on Tuesday against the Brewers, however, the former fourth-round draft pick will face Freddy Peralta, whom he is 0-for-5 off of in his career with four strikeouts.Source: ESPN
1 day agoHouston Astros designated hitter Yordan Alvarez belted his first home run of the season on Sunday, a game-tying two-run blast in the ninth inning of the team's 9-7 win in extra innings. The left-handed slugger finished 2-for-4 on the day with three RBI and a run scored. The 27-year-old got off to a slow start, going 1-for-16 ( .063) over his first five games, but has picked up the pace, going 5-for-17 (.294) over the last four. The 3x All-Star is coming off his fourth straight 30-homer campaign and looks to be heating up as the team heads to Seattle to take on Logan Gilbert and the Mariners on Monday. Alvarez is 8-for-28 (.286) off the righty in his career, including four doubles, a home run, and a 3:8 BB:K, making him an intriguing DFS play against the talented pitcher.Source: ESPN
1 day agoLos Angeles Angels second baseman Kyren Paris continued his hot start on Sunday, going 2-for-4 with a solo home run, two runs scored, and a stolen base in the 6-2 win over the Guardians. It was the second home run of the season for the former second-round draft pick, and he's now collected at least one hit in six of eight games so far, with eight runs scored and four steals to boot. The 23-year-old has been a pleasant surprise for fantasy and is a viable waiver addition given his early multi-category contributions. Plus, he's played outfield a couple of times already, so he could soon add OF eligibility on Yahoo! where he's currently only eligible at second base. The youngster is still available in over 80 percent of leagues for managers interested in his services.Source: ESPN
1 day agoSan Francisco Giants outfielder Mike Yastrzemski went 1-for-3 with a walk and a three-run home run in Sunday's 5-4 win over the Mariners. It was the left-handed hitter's first home run of the year, and he's now hitting .333 (8-for-24) with a .484 OBP thanks in large part to seven walks in 31 of his plate appearances. Despite not breaking into the big leagues until he was 28, the 34-year-old has been a productive major leaguer, hitting no less than 15 home runs in each of his five full seasons (even collecting 10 in the shortened 2020 season). As a career .240 hitter, don't expect the .333 average to stick, but the veteran can be a useful source of power, RBI, and runs in deeper and NL-only leagues so long as he's hitting sixth like he was on Sunday.Source: ESPN
1 day agoColorado Rockies top pitching prospect Chase Dollander, ranked No. 24 in the top 100 MLB Pipeline, earned his first MLB win on Sunday against the Athletics. In five innings of work, he allowed four runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out six, which was enough to earn him the win as the Rockies won the game 12-5. The long ball hurt him, as he allowed a two-run home run to Tyler Soderstrom in the first and a solo shot from Lawrence Butler in the fifth. It was a good start for the young right-hander, as the six strikeouts showed a lot of swing and miss promise. Up next for Dollander is a challenging task on the road against the Padres, but fantasy managers might want to keep an eye on him or stash him on their bench in case he lives up to the hype in 2025.Source: ESPN
1 day agoNew York Mets right-handed pitching prospect Nolan McLean was sharp in his season debut with Double-A Binghamton on Sunday. McLean logged four innings and struck out eight batters. He allowed three hits with no runs and no free passes. This was a promising season debut for McLean, as he struggled at the Double-A level last summer. Last season, the Oklahoma State logged 81 2/3 innings and posted a 4.19 ERA with a 1.32 WHIP. He tallied 80 punchouts and allowed 32 walks. Earlier in the 2024 campaign, the former third-round selection posted a strong 2.57 ERA with a 1.07 WHIP across 28 innings at High-A. Fantasy managers should continue to keep an eye on his development as he could push for a Triple-A debut later in the summer.Source: MiLB.com
1 day agoSeattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh went 3-for-4 with a double, a solo home run, and a walk in Sunday's 5-4 loss to the Giants. It was the slugger's second home run of the season and the fourth consecutive game with at least one hit. The switch-hitter now owns a .222/.349/.417 slash line with a .334 wOBA and 120 wRC+ through 10 games, even chipping in a couple of stolen bases. The 6-foot-2 backstop is coming off the best season of his career that saw him finish as a top-5 catcher for fantasy, and he looks well on his way to matching that production from last season, even outperforming in many statistical measures early on, including Contact%, Barrel%, xBA, and BB%. The former third-round draft pick will take on the Astros and RHP Hayden Wesneski on Monday, who Raleigh is 2-for-2 off of in his career, including a double.Source: ESPN
1 day agoBoston Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman had himself a day on Sunday during their doubleheader against the St. Louis Cardinals. In Game two, which was on Sunday Night Baseball, Bregman went 4-for-5 with six RBI, two runs scored, and a home run. The home run came in the third inning with two-on and two-out to put the Red Sox comfortably ahead by nine runs. The Red Sox won the game 18-7 and put on a clinic on how to hit the baseball, led by the new acquisition, Bregman, with his team-high six RBI on the evening. Bregman is liking his new environment, slashing .341/.383/.591 through the team's first 10 games. The Red Sox will look to keep it rolling as they start a four-game series with the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday.Source: ESPN
1 day agoBoston Red Sox designated hitter Rafael Devers delivered a monster afternoon for the Red Sox on Sunday during their doubleheader against the St. Louis Cardinals. In game one of the afternoon, he ripped his first home run of the year in the fifth inning of right-hander Andre Pallante to give the Red Sox a one-run lead, and drew a game-tying walk in the ninth inning to send the game to extra innings to help the Red Sox win game one 5-4. In game one, Devers went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Since the 0-for-19 start to his season, Devers has boosted his slash line to .263/.404/.421 and has put to rest any concerns about his role being switched to designated hitter. He will look to stay hot as the Red Sox host the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday for a four-game series.Source: ESPN
