1 day agoKansas City Royals right-handed pitching prospect Luinder Avila tossed 5 2/3 innings in his season debut on Tuesday evening. Avila tallied an impressive 11 punchouts while allowing just one hit, one run, and a free pass. This was an impressive season debut for Avila, who made only one previous Triple-A start in his career. Avila received a start with Triple-A Omaha at the end of the 2024 campaign and allowed five earned runs across 4 1/3 innings. This was a significant step in the right direction for the 23-year-old. He spent most of the 2024 campaign with Double-A Northwest Arkansas and posted a 3.81 ERA with a 1.31 WHIP across 82 2/3 innings of work. Across this stint, he held a 43:82 BB:K. Fantasy managers should continue monitoring his progression at Triple-A, as he could push for his MLB debut in the second half.Source: MiLB.com
1 day agoCincinnati Reds manager Terry Francona said that right-handed reliever Alexis Diaz (hamstring) will begin his minor-league rehab assignment and pitch for High-A Dayton on Friday and again on Sunday. Diaz is eligible to come off the 15-day injured list on April 8, but whether that actually happens will likely depend on how his hamstring feels this weekend and how he looks on the mound after struggling in spring training before straining his left hamstring. The 28-year-old's mechanics were all out of whack in camp, but if he can get his control/command back under control, he's still Cincy's best option for saves in 2025. However, that doesn't mean he'll be closing games right away for the Reds when he comes off the IL. Diaz should be stashed in all fantasy formats, but his leash will be short if he falters for Francona. Emilio Pagan is the team's top closing option in the meantime.Source: The Cincinnati Enquirer - Charlie Goldsmith

1 day agoChicago Cubs infield prospect James Triantos has held a strong .364 AVG and .417 OBP through the first three contests of the Iowa Cubs season. Triantos has also been busy on the basepaths, swiping three bags. However, he has yet to tally a hit for extra bases. Triantos is considered the No. 5 prospect in a deep Cubs system. MLB Pipeline has Triantos currently as the No. 72-best prospect in the sport. Last season, the former second-round selection spent most of his time at Double-A before receiving a brief taste of Triple-A. Through 89 games with Double-A Tennessee, Triantos posted a stellar .300/.345/.437 slash line with 18 doubles, seven home runs, and an eye-catching 38 stolen bases. During his first 26 games at Triple-A, Triantos held a similar .302/.351/.384 line with nine stolen bases. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor Triantos' power production, as that is the one skill that has yet to translate to the top level of the minor leagues.Source: MiLB.com
1 day agoCincinnati Reds corner infielder Christian Encarnacion-Strand (hand) is starting at first base and batting sixth on Wednesday against the visiting Texas Rangers and right-hander Jack Leiter at Great American Ball Park. Encarnacion-Strand was hit by a pitch on his right hand in Monday's game against Texas and didn't play on Tuesday. However, the 25-year-old is back in there for the series finale and will face a young hurler who looked much better in his first start of the 2025 season after struggling in his rookie year in 2024. He has never faced Leiter and will come into Wednesday's game carrying a .286 (4-for-14) early-season batting average with a home run, double, RBI, two runs scored, one walk and four strikeouts in his first four games of the year. Power is CES's primary calling card, and he should play regularly for Cincy as long as he's healthy.Source: MLB.com
1 day agoMiami Marlins outfield prospect Jakob Marsee has swiped four bags across the first four contests of the Triple-A regular season. While he has only tallied one hit across these games, Marsee has drawn five walks (.368 OBP) and made a significant impact on the basepaths. After not swiping a bag in the season opener, Marsee stole at least one in his past three games and posted a two-steal performance on Tuesday evening. Marsee is considered the No. 24 prospect in the Miami system on MLB Pipeline. Last summer, the 23-year-old spent most of his time at the Double-A level but finished the season at Triple-A. Across 115 total contests, Marsee swiped an impressive 44 bags while posting a modest .185 AVG but having a solid .341 OBP. If Marsee is able to develop his bat, he could become a prospect to monitor, given his elite speed. His upside is limited for now, as he relies heavily on his eye to reach first base.Source: MiLB.com

1 day agoCincinnati Reds outfielder Will Benson has enjoyed a strong start to the Triple-A regular season. Through his first four contests, Benson has tallied at least two hits in all but one and even posted a three-hit outing in the season opener. Across this stint, Benson has held a stellar .421/.421/.684 slash line with eight total hits. Benson has hit one triple and one round-tripper. The 26-year-old has brought in three runs and scored seven. This is a great sign for Benson, as he was unable to make the Opening Day roster. After posting a promising .275/.365/.498 slash line during the 2023 campaign in Cincinnati, Benson took a significant step back in 2024 as he slashed an underwhelming .187/.274/.376 line with just 14 long balls. Benson is worth monitoring in deeper formats as he could eventually earn another opportunity in the majors. He could be worth taking a flyer on when he does get the call, given his ability to hit for power and steal bases.Source: MiLB.com
1 day agoCincinnati Reds outfielder Rece Hinds has gone deep twice during the first four games of the Triple-A regular season. Across this short stint, Hinds has tallied at least one hit in all but one contest. Hinds has posted a strong .333/.412/.833 slash line with two long balls, six RBI, and a 2:5 BB:K. Hinds has also swiped two bags and scored six runs. The 24-year-old received a brief taste of the major leagues last summer and flashed elite power upside. Across 24 games in Cincinnati, Hinds launched five long balls with four doubles and held a .717 SLG. He swiped two bags during this stint and generated an elite .386 xwOBA. However, he posted a hefty 38.2 percent whiff rate. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor Hinds' progression at Triple-A as he should push for an early return to the big leagues. He is worth adding in all five outfielder leagues when he returns, given his power upside.Source: MiLB.com
1 day agoMinnesota Twins outfielder Harrison Bader hit a home run during his only plate appearance on Tuesday in his squad's 8-3 win against the Chicago White Sox. Bader came in to pinch-hit for teammate Trevor Larnach in the top of the ninth and promptly blasted his second HR of the season, scoring DaShawn
Keirsey Jr. and Byron Buxton to bring their run total to eight. The 30-year-old has just three hits on the season, but they're all of the extra-base variety (two homers, one double). Bader has oddly been better against right-handed pitchers in his career, and that's stayed true in 2025. All three of the New York native's hits have come off righties thus far, while he's 0-for-4 against lefties.Source: ESPN
1 day agoBaltimore Orioles pitching prospect Kyle Brnovich tallied seven punchouts across his first four innings of the regular season at Triple-A on Tuesday evening. Brnovich logged four innings of work and allowed two earned runs and four hits. He served up just one free pass. Most of his damage came on a two-run single by Tristan Gray in the fourth inning. Last season, Brnovich spent his entire campaign receiving his second look at the Double-A level. Across 75 innings with Double-A Bowie, the right-hander posted a 3.96 ERA with a 1.12 WHIP. He tallied 77 punchouts. This was a steady improvement compared to the 4.50 ERA and 1.08 WHIP he held across High-A and a brief taste of Double-A during the 2023 season. He missed most of 2022 and the start of the 2023 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. Fantasy managers should keep an eye on Brnovich's development at Triple-A as he could push for a late-season MLB debut if he shows steady improvement with Norfolk.Source: MiLB.com
1 day agoSt. Louis Cardinals outfielder Jordan Walker went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI in Tuesday's 9-7 loss to the Los Angeles Angels. He also singled, scored a run, swiped a bag, and struck out. Walker took Angels pitcher Kyle Hendricks deep in the bottom of the fourth inning for his second HR of the season -- getting the better of the veteran on a nine-pitch at-bat. It was the former first-round pick's second multi-hit game in a row. Walker has been hitting well to start the season, sporting a robust .429/.529/.643 triple-slash with just two strikeouts in 14 at-bats. The 22-year-old is a former top prospect who hit for power and average in the minors.Source: ESPN
1 day agoArizona Diamondbacks second base prospect Tim Tawa went 2-for-3 with a home run and a triple during their victory on Tuesday evening. Tawa brought in four of Reno's seven runs during this contest. Through his first four games of the Triple-A regular season, Tawa has enjoyed an incredible start, launching a home run in each of his previous three contests and holding an overall .439/.529/1.214 line. He has tallied at least one hit in each contest and two in each of his last two. During this hot start, he has tallied 10 RBI and scored seven runs. The 25-year-old made his Triple-A debut last summer and held a solid .304/.376/.616 slash line with 11 doubles and 10 home runs across 37 contests. Fantasy managers should watch Tawa's production closely as he should contend for an MLB debut later this summer.Source: MiLB.com
1 day agoDetroit Tigers outfielder Riley Greene went 2-for-4 with a double and a home run in his team's 4-1 road win over the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday. Greene knocked in one RBI and scored and struck out twice. The former fifth-overall pick of the 2019 draft posted two hard-hit balls in this one -- his double came off the bat at 95.9 MPH, and the round-tripper, a 106.2 MPH blast to left-center-field off Trent Thornton. Greene curiously hasn't drawn a walk yet -- something he did at an 11.0% clip a season ago -- and holds a ghastly 43.5% strikeout rate. However, those should normalize as the season trudges along. The 24-year-old is 6-for-23 (.261) with two homers, two doubles, two RBI, and four runs.Source: ESPN
1 day agoTexas Rangers third base prospect Cody Freeman went 3-for-3 with two home runs during their victory over Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday evening. During this contest, Freeman tallied four RBI. Through his first four contests of the regular season, Freeman tallied at least one hit in all but one contest and tallied five total RBI. Last season, the 24-year-old spent his entire campaign at the Double-A level. Across 123 contests with Double-A Frisco, Freeman held a strong .264/.320/.432 slash line with 33 doubles and 14 round-trippers. He swiped 15 bags and held a 37:94 BB:K. Freeman has yet to reach the major leagues and could be a name to monitor if he continues to produce at the Triple-A level. However, he may need to spend the first few months of the season at the top level of the minor leagues before being in contention for an MLB debut.Source: MiLB.com
