2 days agoThe Boston Red Sox and reliever Jose De Leon have agreed to a minor league deal. The righty last pitched in the majors for the Twins in 2023 but missed all of 2024 recovering from Tommy John surgery. Over his six seasons in the majors, the 32-year-old owns a 7.44 ERA, 1.68 WHIP, and a 14.1 percent K-BB% in 65 1/3 IP. The veteran pitched this past offseason in the Puerto Rican winter league and was somewhat effective in his nine-and-two-thirds innings of work, allowing just one run on seven hits with an 8:11 BB:K. He'll likely serve as bullpen depth in the minors and is off the fantasy radar.Source: Francys Romero
2 days agoCincinnati Reds starting pitcher prospect Chase Petty pitched well in his third appearance of the spring, but the team ultimately fell to the Dodgers 4-2 in Cactus League action. The 21-year-old went three innings, allowing one run on four hits and no walks while striking out four. The righty touched 98.9 on the radar gun, and the one run he allowed was the first of the spring over a total of seven innings. Petty is the Reds' sixth-ranked prospect and should make his MLB debut sometime this season, but has just 10 innings under his belt at Triple-A to this point in his career. The former first-round draft pick could be worth a look in NL-only and deeper leagues when he gets the call, but despite the power arm, his K/9 sits at 8.7 in the minors.Source: ESPN

2 days agoNew York Yankees outfielder Jasson Dominguez cranked his first home run of the spring in Tuesday's 12-3 Grapefruit League win over the Phillies. Dominguez was 2-for-4 on the day with an RBI and a pair of runs scored. The 22-year-old has gotten off to a bit of a slow start, now 4-for-20 (.200) through seven spring games, and has yet to steal his first base, although that should not have any bearing on his fantasy draft stock for now. The Dominican could hit leadoff for the Yankees this season, which should be a boon to his run-scoring production, although on Tuesday, the left-handed hitter batted third. He's dealt with injuries the last two seasons, but if he can manage to stay healthy this year, he's a legitimate 20/20 threat and isn't that expensive with an NFBC ADP of 147.Source: ESPN
2 days agoLos Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Roki Sasaki made his much-anticipated spring debut in Tuesday's 4-2 Cactus League win over the Reds. MLBs No. 1-ranked prospect overall after coming over from Japan's NPB came on in relief of starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto and logged three innings of work. The appearance did not disappoint and reassured those who may have drafted the him already. Over the three innings, Sasaki yielded two hits and a walk while striking out five batters as he hit 99-plus mph on the radar gun multiple times. The righty is expected to make his regular season debut during the Tokyo Series that runs March 18-19. He looks fairly priced right now around his NFBC ADP of 97, right where RotoBaller ranks the 23-year-old.Source: ESPN

2 days agoLos Angeles Dodgers right-handed reliever Michael Kopech (forearm) was set to throw a bullpen session at camp on Tuesday. Kopech is behind the other pitchers at spring training due to right-forearm inflammation that he dealt with in the offseason. While nothing is determined just yet, there's a good chance Kopech won't be available for the season-opening two-game series in Tokyo, Japan, on March 18 and 19 against the Chicago Cubs, and the hard-throwing 28-year-old could also open the regular season in the U.S. on the injured list. The former 33rd overall pick by the Boston Red Sox back in 2014 was very sharp in his 24 relief appearances with L.A. last year after being acquired from the White Sox, posting a 1.13 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and six saves, but the Dodgers' offseason additions to the bullpen will likely mean few save chances, if any, for Kopech in 2025.Source: The Los Angeles Times - Jack Harris
2 days agoBoston Red Sox shortstop prospect Marcelo Mayer (illness) is battling the stomach bug. His teammate Roman Anthony had it as well. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status but should expect him to be sidelined for a few days. The 22-year-old is considered one of the top prospects in Boston and the entire sport. Last season, Mayer logged 77 games with Double-A. Across this stint, Mayer posted a .307/.370/.480 slash line with 28 doubles and eight home runs. He swiped 13 bags and held a 30:66 BB:K ratio. This was a nice improvement compared to the .189/.254/.355 line he held across his first taste of Double-A during the 2023 season. He was promoted to Triple-A but could not make an appearance due to a back injury. Mayer will likely open the 2025 season at Triple-A and should push for a 2025 MLB debut.Source: Ian Browne
2 days agoSan Francisco Giants outfielder Heliot Ramos (oblique) made his spring training debut on Tuesday. Ramos went 0-for-2 at the plate with a walk. Ramos was dealing with a minor oblique injury during the start of camp. However, seeing him make his debut in left field suggests he is past this injury and will not face any restrictions by Opening Day. The 25-year-old is expected to be the team's everyday left fielder in 2025. Ramos appeared in just 34 contests during the 2022 and 2023 but saw a drastic increase in playing time in 2024 as he logged 121 contests. Ramos posted a .269/.322/.469 slash line with 23 doubles and 22 long balls. He generated an elite .481 xSLG with a 47.5 percent hard-hit rate. However, he drew walks at a low 7.1 percent rate and struck out at a high 26.1 percent rate. Rams carries intriguing power-power upside heading into 2025.Source: MLB.com
2 days agoThe Los Angeles Angels have assigned right-handed pitcher Kelvin Caceres (lat) to minor-league camp. Caceres was invited to the major-league camp as a non-roster invite. However, he is still recovering from the season-ending lat injury he sustained last March. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status as he currently holds an unclear timeline. Last season, the 25-year-old was unable to appear in a professional contest. In 2023, Caceres made his MLB debut and tossed one 1/3 innings. During that season, he spent most of his time with Double-A, where he held a 5.61 ERA and a 1.54 WHIP. At Triple-A, Caceres flashed high upside as he held a near-perfect 0.90 ERA with a 1.00 WHIP across 10 innings of work. When healthy, he will likely open the 2025 season at Triple-A.Source: Los Angeles Angels PR
2 days agoLos Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Edgardo Henriquez (foot) will not be ready for Opening Day. The right-handed pitcher was wearing a walking boot in the clubhouse after suffering a metatarsal injury. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his progression as he could return to action relatively early in the 2025 campaign. Last season, Henriquez made his MLB debut and allowed one earned run across three 1/3 innings of work. He tallied five punchouts and generated a 1.20 xERA and a .075 xBA. Last summer, Henriquez opened the campaign at Single-A and progressed through Triple-A before reaching the big leagues. In 12 2/3 innings at Triple-A, the 22-year-old held a 2.84 ERA with a 1.89 WHIP. He held a 10:18 BB:K ratio. When healthy, he should compete for a role in the Dodger bullpen.Source: Jack Harris
2 days agoThe New York Mets have placed right-handed pitcher Sean Reid-Foley on waivers. Reid-Foley signed a one-year contract with the Mets earlier in the offseason to avoid arbitration. Last season, the 29-year-old was enjoying a strong start to his 2024 campaign as he held a 1.66 ERA with a 1.25 WHIP through 21 2/3 innings. He tallied 25 punchouts and generated a stellar .198 xBA. However, his season was eventually cut short by a shoulder injury in late June. During his lone appearance in spring training, his velocity was down, which raised some concern. This transaction now opens a spot on the 40-man roster. If Reid-Foley can continue to show improvement before the regular season, he could draw interest as a middle reliever on waivers. Through 131 2/3 career innings in the majors, the right-hander has held a 4.10 ERA with a 1.50 WHIP.Source: Anthony DiComo
2 days agoThe Chicago Cubs are signing right-handed pitcher Yency Almonte to a minor-league contract. Almonte spent the 2024 campaign with the Cubs and will reunite with his former club. Last season, Almonte logged 15 2/3 innings of work with a 3.45 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP. He tallied 20 strikeouts but held a high 11.9 percent walk rate. He generated an elite .199 xBA and a 32.4 percent hard-hit rate. His season was cut short in July when he underwent season-ending surgery. Fantasy managers should expect Almonte to slowly ramp up his workload as he works his way back from the operation. However, he is not expected to return until later in the 2025 season. As a result, Almonte will likely open the season in the minor leagues and could eventually work his way back to the major leagues.Source: Jesse Rogers
