Ethan Salas Snaps Skid At Double-A
5 days agoSan Diego Padres catching prospect Ethan Salas went 3-for-5 with two RBI and a stolen base during Wednesday's contest. This was a much-needed breakout game for Salas as he tallied just one hit with a 0:2 BB:K across the first three games of the Double-A regular season. Salas is considered one of the top catching prospects in the sport at just 18 years old. Last summer, the backstop spent his entire campaign with High-A Fort Wayne and went through some growing pains as he posted an overall .206/.288/.311 line with just four long balls. He hit 27 doubles, swiped 10 bags, and held a 47:98 BB:K. However, in the second half of the 2024 season, he began to turn the corner and appears to be carrying some momentum into the early part of the 2025 campaign. Even though he is still several seasons away from his MLB debut, he is worth monitoring in dynasty formats.Source: MiLB.com
Sal Stewart Posts Second Three-Hit Game Of The Season
5 days agoCincinnati Reds infield prospect Sal Stewart went 3-for-5 with two doubles during their contest on Wednesday evening. This was Stewart's second three-hit performance of the young campaign. Through the first four games of the Double-A regular season, Stewart has tallied at least one hit in each contest and holds an overall .444/.500/.778 slash line with three doubles and one long ball. He has also swiped a bag in each game. The 21-year-old spent his entire 2024 season with High-A Dayton and held a .279/.391/.454 slash line with 23 doubles and eight round-trippers. He is worth keeping a close eye on in dynasty formats as he has yet to show any signs of slowing down during his first taste of Double-A. If he continues this steady production, he could see time at Triple-A in the second half.Source: MiLB.com

Johnathan Rodriguez Optioned To Triple-A
5 days agoCleveland Guardians outfield prospect Johnathan Rodriguez was optioned to Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday. Rodriguez made the Opening Day roster but did not find consistent at-bats. As a result, the team will opt for their No. 13-ranked prospect to see more playing time with Triple-A Columbus. In his brief look at the majors this season, he went 0-for-5 with three strikeouts. The 25-year-old also saw a brief taste of the big leagues last summer as he held a .129/.325/.161 line across 13 contests. However, Rodriguez performed very well with Triple-A Columbus last season and could push for an early return to the majors this summer if he picks up where he left off. Across 118 contests, the outfielder posted an impressive .301/.390/.540 slash line 18 doubles with 29 long balls. He is worth closely monitoring in AL-only formats.Source: Tim Stebbins
Byron Buxton Sitting Again On Thursday
5 days agoMinnesota Twins outfielder Byron Buxton is out of the lineup for a second straight game on Thursday in the series finale against the division-rival Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium. Buxton struck out four times in Tuesday's game in KC and will start the game on the bench once again in favor of Harrison Bader, who is starting in center field and batting ninth against Royals right-hander Michael Wacha. Buxton has gone hitless in seven career at-bats against Wacha, while Bader has hit .364 against the veteran hurler with a .728 OPS in 11 career at-bats. In his first 11 games of 2025, Buxton has been cold offensively, hitting .171 (7-for-41) with a homer, two doubles, four RBI, two stolen bases, one walk and 16 strikeouts in 43 plate appearances. As far as we know, the oft-injured Buxton is healthy. If he's not back in the lineup on Friday against the Tigers, though, something might be up. UPDATE: Buxton has returned home for a personal matter.Source: MLB.com
Korey Lee Lands On 10-Day Injured List
5 days agoThe Chicago White Sox placed catcher Korey Lee (ankle) on the 10-day injured list on Thursday with a left-ankle sprain and recalled catcher Omar Narvaez from Double-A Birmingham in a corresponding move. Lee suffered his ankle sprain in Wednesday's loss to the Cleveland Guardians. The injury isn't considered all that serious, so the 26-year-could be back with the team when he's eligible to come off the IL. The former first-rounder went 5-for-15 with two doubles, an RBI and three runs scored in nine games before his injury on Wednesday. Matt Thais is starting behind the plate on Thursday and is batting cleanup for the Pale Hose against the Guardians in the series finale. Expect him to receive the majority of starts at catcher in Chicago while Lee is sidelined, with Narvaez backing him up. Thaiss has started his first season in Chicago by going 4-for-19 with a double and two RBI in nine games.Source: Chicago White Sox
Justin Wrobleski Optioned To Triple-A
5 days agoLos Angeles Dodgers pitching prospect Justin Wrobleski was optioned to Triple-A on Wednesday. Wrobleski was given the starting nod on Tuesday evening against the Washington Nationals but struggled in this outing as he allowed eight hits and eight earned runs in just five innings of work. He struck out four batters and served up three free passes. Even with Blake Snell (shoulder) on the injured list, the Dodgers will opt for Wrobleski to continue his development with Triple-A Oklahoma City. Last summer, Wroblesk logged 36 1/3 innings in the major leagues and held a 5.70 ERA with a 1.38 WHIP. Through his first five 2/3 innings with Oklahoma City this season, Wrobleski did not allow a run and struck out three. As a result, Landon Knack should continue to see opportunities in the rotation.Source: Los Angeles Dodgers
Mike Tauchman Goes Back On Injured List
5 days agoThe Chicago White Sox announced on Thursday that they placed outfielder Mike Tauchman (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list due to a right-hamstring strain and recalled outfielder Joshua Palacios from Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding move. The team also released right-hander Juan Carela. It will be Tauchman's second trip to the IL already this year after beginning the regular season on the shelf due to a right-hamstring strain that he initially suffered in spring training. The 34-year-old veteran returned from the IL on Sunday but quicky aggravated the injury while running the bases on Wednesday and will be forced to miss more time. It's likely that he'll be forced to miss more than 10 days to let his hamstring fully recover. Brooks Baldwin is making the start in left field for Chicago on Thursday against the Guardians, but Michael Taylor and Palacios will also be options there for however long Tauchman is out.Source: MLB.com
Luis Robert Jr. Resting On Thursday
5 days agoChicago White Sox outfielder Luis Robert Jr. will head to the bench for Thursday's series finale against the division-rival Cleveland Guardians at Progressive Field. Michael Taylor will start in center field and will bat eighth against Guardians right-hander Gavin Williams. Robert could probably use the day off, as he was hitless in his five plate appearances on Wednesday and has gone just 6-for-39 (.154) with a double, RBI, three steals, three runs scored, five walks and 13 strikeouts in his first 11 games in 2025. Fantasy managers shouldn't be too worried just yet, but hopefully the 27-year-old slugger can begin to pick things up this weekend for a series at home against the visiting Boston Red Sox. Taylor has gone just 3-for-17 in the early going with a homer, two RBI and a stolen base in eight games played. He'll be a weak DFS option, and he's never faced Williams in his career.Source: MLB.com
Cam Smith Starting To Turn The Corner In The Majors
5 days agoHouston Astros third base/outfield prospect Cam Smith is beginning to turn the corner in the majors. After tallying just two hits across his first six contests, Smith began to see his playing time decrease. However, Smith has tallied at least one hit in each of the previous two contests, including a triple on Tuesday. In addition, Smith has tallied at least one RBI in each contest. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his development in the majors as the Astros may continue to slightly limit his playing if he can't show consistency. Smith was the headliner piece in the Kyle Tucker trade in the offseason. The Cubs selected Smith with the 14th overall pick in last year's MLB Draft. Smith was able to make the MLB roster out of camp. Fantasy managers in deeper formats should continue to hold Smith on their roster.Source: MLB.com
Lane Thomas Still Out On Thursday
5 days agoCleveland Guardians outfielder Lane Thomas (wrist) remains out of the starting lineup for Thursday's series finale against the division-rival Chicago White Sox at Progressive Field. Thomas was hit by a pitch on his right wrist in the team's home opener on Tuesday and will miss his second straight game with a contusion. The 29-year-old is day-to-day and should be able to return at some point this weekend against the division-rival Kansas City Royals. Along with the injury, Thomas has gotten off to a rough start with only five hits in his first 33 plate appearances for Cleveland with eight strikeouts in eight games played. Nolan Jones is in center field again and is batting fifth, while Jhonkensy is starting in right and hitting sixth on Thursday against White Sox right-hander Jonathan Cannon. Jones has a homer and two RBI in two career at-bats against Cannon, while Noel is hitless in two career at-bats against him.Source: MLB.com

Thomas Harrington Sent Back To Triple-A
5 days agoPittsburgh Pirates pitching prospect Thomas Harrington was optioned to Triple-A on Thursday. The Pirates promoted Harrington on April 1 but were only able to appear in two games during his first brief taste of the major leagues. He was given the starting nod in his first outing on April 1 and allowed seven hits and six earned runs across four innings to the Tampa Bay Rays. In his other appearance, Harrington was deployed out of the bullpen and tossed four innings of three-run ball en route to earning a save. In this game, he held a 1:5 BB:K and allowed four hits. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his production at Triple-A as he should be in the mix to return to the big leagues later in the season, when the Pirates need additional pitching depth. Last season at Triple-A, Harrington posted a 3.33 ERA with a 0.93 WHIP across 46 innings of work.Source: MLB.com
Brandon Lowe Off To Solid Start For Tampa Bay
5 days agoTampa Bay Rays second baseman Brandon Lowe has hit safely in eight of his 10 games this season and sports a solid .293 batting average to go with three home runs, eight RBI, and a .366 wOBA. In each of the last three years, Lowe has hit under .250 with a wOBA under .340 despite back-to-back years with 20-plus home runs. The Rays are managing his workload, and he got Wednesday off against a left-handed starter with Curtis Mead stepping in. When he has been in the lineup, though, the 30-year-old Lowe has been productive enough to be a solid option in AL-only leagues and brings good power from a sometimes tricky 2B roster spot.Source: ESPN.com
