4 days agoSeattle Mariners pitching prospect Logan Evans was named Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week. He enjoyed an impressive outing on April 9 when he shut down the Sacramento River Cats. He tossed six innings of one-run ball. He allowed just two hits, with no walks, and struck out seven. This was a much-needed bounce-back outing for Evans as he allowed five runs and eight hits across five innings of work in his previous start. Last summer, the 23-year-old spent his entire campaign with Double-A Arkansas and held a 3.20 ERA with a 1.18 WHIP across 107 innings of work. He struck out 98 batters and served up 42 free passes. Fantasy managers should contribute to monitoring the Pittsburgh product's development at Triple-A, as he could be in the mix for a second-half MLB debut.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: MiLB.com

4 days agoBoston Red Sox infield prospect Kristian Campbell went 2-for-3 with a home run during their loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday evening. Campbell would score Boston's lone run in this contest on a solo shot in the third frame. Campbell would go deep against Tampa Bay right-hander Shane Baz. Campbell has enjoyed an impressive start to his MLB career. He has reached base safely in each of his first 17 contests. Across this stint, the Georgia Tech product has posted a stellar .328/.420/.552 slash line with four doubles, three long balls, and one stolen base. He has shown a strong eye at the plate, holding a 10:16 BB:K. Boston has typically deployed Campbell at the keystone but has also given him five starts in the outfield. He will look to stay hot at the plate on Tuesday, facing Ryan Pepiot.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

4 days agoTampa Bay Rays third baseman Junior Caminero went 2-for-5 with a home run during their demanding 16-1 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Monday evening. Caminero tallied a one-run single in the third inning, which scored Jake Mangum. Later in the fifth, Caminero would go deep for the fourth time this season. This was the budding star's third-straight game hitting a long ball. During this impressive power surge, Caminero has tallied six RBI and held a .417/.462/1.167 slash line. Before the surge, Caminero held a modest .256/.283/.372 line over the first 12 games of the campaign. Under the hood, he has generated an impressive .488 xSLG with a stellar 78.8 mph bat speed, which suggests his power numbers should continue to climb. He remains a must-start option in all formats going forward.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

4 days agoOn Saturday, Alexander Volkanovski managed to reclaim his featherweight belt by beating Diego Lopes via unanimous decision in the main event of UFC 314. Volkanovski became the only fighter in a weight class below welterweight to win a championship after the age of 35. The fight was competitive with each fighter having big moments, but Volkanovski was just one step ahead of Lopes. In 25 minutes of action, Volkanovski landed a takedown and 158 significant strikes. With the win, Volkanovski improved to 27-4 as a pro and is now 14-3 in the UFC.--Alen Kurbasic - RotoBallerSource: UFC

4 days agoDiego Lopes wasn't able to capture the featherweight title, losing unanimously to Alexander Volkanovski in the main event of UFC 314 on Saturday. Throughout the fight, Lopes scored a lot of big shots and even managed to knock Volkanovski down with a few seconds left in the second round, but Lopes ultimately came up short on the scorecards with the judges scoring the fight 49-46, 49-46 and 48-47 in favor of Volkanovski. In 25 minutes of action, Lopes landed 63 significant strikes. With the loss, Lopes drops to 26-7 as a pro and is now 5-2 in the UFC.--Alen Kurbasic - RotoBallerSource: UFC

4 days agoOn Saturday, Paddy Pimblett extended his win streak to nine by defeating former title challenger Michael Chandler via third-round TKO in the co-main event of UFC 314. For most of the fight, Pimblett dominated Chandler. The deciding moment came in the third round when Pimblett landed a devastating knee on Chandler, hurting and cutting him in the process. Not long after, Pimblett took Chandler down and unloaded a barrage of elbows and punches that forced the referee to end the fight. In 18:07 of action, Pimblett landed a takedown and 80 significant strikes. With the win, Pimblett improved to 23-3 as a pro and is now 7-0 in the UFC.--Alen Kurbasic - RotoBallerSource: UFC

4 days agoFormer title challenger Michael Chandler suffered a third-round TKO loss to Paddy Pimblett in the co-main event of UFC 314 on Saturday. Chandler didn't have much to offer Pimblett as he was dominated and brutalized up until the finishing sequence. The loss marked a third consecutive defeat for Chandler, who hasn't won since a 2022 knockout of former interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson. The defining moment came in the third round when Chandler got hit with a devastating knee, opening a significant cut below his left eye. Seizing the opportunity, Pimblett secured a takedown and finished Chandler with punches and elbows from the full mount. In 13:07 of action, Chandler landed four takedowns and 11 significant strikes. --Alen Kurbasic - RotoBallerSource: UFC

4 days agoChicago Blackhawks rookie center Frank Nazar tallied two points during their 4-3 shootout victory over the Montreal Canadiens. This was Nazar's second-straight game tallying two points. In the opening frame, Nazar tallied the primary assist on Tyler Bertuzzi's power-play goal. Later in the second, Nazar would find the back of the net himself, also on the power play. Since the start of the month, Nazar has played a key role in the Chicago offense as he has scored four goals and added four helpers over seven contests. During this stretch, Nazar tallied three of his points on the power play. Before April, Nazar tallied just three points (all goals) during all of March. Given his recent offensive surge, he remains a viable option in DFS during their final game of the season, against the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday evening.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: NHL.com

4 days agoOn Saturday's UFC 314 main card, former two-division Bellator champion Patricio Freire suffered a unanimous decision loss to former interim featherweight champion Yair Rodriguez. Throughout three rounds, Freire was dominated as he was having problems with Rodriguez's reach and closing the distance. He was even knocked down and punished with elbows in the third round. In 15 minutes of action, Freire landed a takedown and only 17 significant strikes. --Alen Kurbasic - RotoBallerSource: UFC

4 days agoFormer interim featherweight champion Yair Rodriguez got back in the win column by defeating former two-division Bellator champion Patricio Freire via unanimous decision on the main card of UFC 314. Rodriguez controlled and dominated Freire throughout the entire 15-minute affair. He even dropped Freire in the third round and almost finished him. In 15 minutes of action, Rodriguez landed a takedown and 70 significant strikes. By beating Freire, Rodriguez bounced back after suffering two consecutive losses. With the win, Rodriguez is now 20-5 with one NC as a professional and is 11-4 with one NC in the UFC.--Alen Kurbasic - RotoBallerSource: UFC

4 days agoNew York Rangers center J.T. Miller tallied two points for the third consecutive game on Monday evening during their 5-3 victory over the Florida Panthers. Miller would find the back of the net in the second frame during 5-on-5 play. Later in the third, Miller would tally the primary assist on Vincent Trocheck's game-winning shorthanded goal. Over his last 11 contests, Miller has been quite effective on the scoresheet, scoring six goals and adding 10 helpers. Before this surge, he tallied just three points (all helpers) over his last seven games. The Rangers acquired Miller on January 31 from the Vancouver Canucks. He has consistently seen top-six minutes in the New York offense and has enjoyed a strong conclusion to the season. He remains a solid option in DFS in their final game against Tampa Bay on Thursday evening.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: NHL.com

4 days agoOn Saturday, Bryce Mitchell suffered a second-round submission loss to Jean Silva on the main card of UFC 314. Mitchell tried taking Silva down 14 times but only managed to take him down once as Silva demonstrated his takedown defense and overall superior grappling game. Midway through the second round, Silva sank in a slick ninja choke that put Mitchell to sleep. In 8:52 of action, Mitchell landed a takedown and 36 significant strikes. The submission loss drops Mitchell to 2-3 in his past five fights. With the loss, Mitchell dropped to 17-3 as a pro and is now 8-3 in the UFC.--Alen Kurbasic - RotoBallerSource: UFC

4 days agoUtah Hockey Club right wing Clayton Keller was busy during their 7-3 victory over the Nashville Predators on Monday evening. In the second frame, Keller would tally two helpers, the primary assist on Logan Cooley's goal and the secondary assist on Nick Schmaltz's power-play goal. In the final frame, Keller would tally his other two points. Keller would find the back of the net twice in this frame, including the empty-netter, which put the game out of reach. Over his last eight games, Keller has enjoyed a nice offensive surge, as he has found the back of the net five times and added six helpers. Before this surge, Keller tallied just four points (one goal) over his last eight contests. Through 80 games this season, Keller has set a career-high mark in points (89) and is just one goal away from hitting the 30-goal mark for three straight seasons.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: NHL.com

4 days agoDetroit Red Wings right wing Lucas Raymond scored a goal and added two assists during their 6-4 victory over the Dallas Stars. Raymond would do all of his damage in the third period. He first tallied two primary assists, with one of them coming on Moritz Seider's power-play goal. Later in the frame, Raymond would find the back of the net himself during 5-on-5 play. This outing snapped a three-game scoreless streak for Raymond. Before his minor slump, the former fourth overall pick tallied five points (two goals) over his last five contests. Through 80 games this season, Raymond enjoyed a career season, scoring 27 goals and adding 51 assists. His previous season-high point total was 72, which was his tally from last season. He remains a strong play in DFS over the final week of the regular season.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: NHL.com

Silva dominated the fight before getting the submission win in the second round. Midway through the second round, Silva put Mitchell to sleep by landing a ninja-choke submission. In 8:52 of action, Silva landed 27 significant strikes. Silva is now on a 13-fight winning streak following this victory. With the win, Silva improves to 16-2 as a pro. 4 days agoLos Angeles Kings center Quinton Byfield (upper body) exited Monday's contest early due to an upper-body injury. The team did not provide an update on his status after the contest. However, fantasy managers should expect the team to monitor Byfield's workload heading into the Stanley Cup Playoffs, as they have already clinched the No. 2 seed in the Pacific Division. Before exiting the game, Byfield would score his 23rd goal of the campaign on the power-play in just over 14 minutes of ice time. This was his fourth-straight game finding the back of the net. Over his last eight games, Byfield has tallied 10 points, with four of them coming on the power play. If cleared to return in the playoffs, he would be viewed as a strong play in DFS competitions.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: Los Angeles Kings

4 days agoLos Angeles Kings right wing Adrian Kempe tallied three points during their victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Monday evening. Kempe tallied the primary assist on Quinton Byfield's power-play goal in the opening frame. In the second, Kempe would tally his second primary assist, this time on Kevin Fiala's power-play goal. In the third period, Kempe would find the back of the net himself to put the game out of reach. This victory clinched them the No. 2 seed in the Pacific Division, which will give them home ice in their first-round matchup against the Oilers. Over his previous eight contests, Kempe has found the back of the net five times and added eight helpers. He remains a strong play in DFS heading into the postseason, playing on the top forward unit.--Andy Smith - RotoBallerSource: NHL.com

4 days agoOn the UFC 314 main card opener, former light heavyweight title challenger Dominick Reyes defeated Nikita Krylov by a first-round knockout. As Krylov charged forward, looking to land a big punch, Reyes landed a counter left that sent Krylov crashing to the canvas. Reyes followed up with punches, forcing the referee to stop the fight. In 2:24 of action, Reyes landed eight significant strikes. This was Reyes' third consecutive win. With the win, Reyes improved to 15-4 as a pro and is now 9-4 in the UFC.--Alen Kurbasic - RotoBallerSource: UFC

4 days agoNikita Krylov suffered a first-round knockout loss to former title challenger Dominick Reyes on Saturday at the UFC 314 main card opener. In the first round, Reyes hit Krylov with a stiff jab that hurt Krylov. Krylov tried to fire back, but Reyes countered with a devastating left hand that knocked Krylov out for the first time in his career. In 2:24 of action, Krylov landed four significant strikes. With the loss, Krylov dropped to 30-10 as a pro and is now 11-8 in the UFC.--Alen Kurbasic - RotoBallerSource: UFC

4 days agoLos Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Tanner Scott pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save in a 5-3 win over the Colorado Rockies on Monday. Scott allowed a pair of hits and struck out one in his inning of work. The lefty now has a 3.00 ERA and 0.89 WHIP and has gone 5-for-6 in his save opportunities. He appears to be the clear favorite for saves in LA, although Dave Roberts tends to change his bullpen usage more than other managers. Still, on a dominant LA team, Scott could be near the top of the league in saves this season if he can stay healthy and continue pitching well.--Matt Garon - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

4 days agoLos Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Dustin May continued his strong start to the season on Monday, tossing six innings of one-run ball against the Colorado Rockies in a 5-3 win. May allowed just three hits and perhaps more importantly walked zero while striking out seven. The 27-year-old has been solid so far this year, but he did walk three in each of his first two starts, so his improved control in this one was good to see. After an injury-plagued 2024, the Dodgers will likely limit May's pitch counts, which limits his fantasy value. He should still be rostered in most leagues, as he has a good chance to help with ratios and could pick up some wins if he can be efficient with his pitches.--Matt Garon - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

4 days agoAtlanta Braves right-handed pitcher Grant Holmes picked up his first win of the season on Monday, pitching 7 ⅔ innings of three-run ball in a 9-3 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays. Holmes allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out four in this one. It was the first time this season that Holmes went even five innings, and after back-to-back starts with four walks, he showcased much-improved control. The 29-year-old has shown flashes of ability in the past, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him emerge as a decent fantasy option. For now, however, he remains just a streamer and deep-league option.--Matt Garon - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

4 days agoSt. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Sonny Gray dominated the Houston Astros on Monday, hurling seven shutout frames in an 8-3 victory. Gray allowed just three hits and a walk while punching out four, earning his third win of the season in the process. Gray moves to 3-0 with a 3.13 ERA, 0.78 WHIP, and 23 strikeouts in 23 IP after this one. When the righty is on his game, he can be one of the better pitchers in the league, and he is proving that again early in the season. Gray is absolutely a must-start option in fantasy right now, but could be considered a sell-high given his inconsistencies and injury history.--Matt Garon - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

4 days agoDetroit Tigers starting pitcher Tarik Skubal delivered a stellar performance on Monday, tossing seven shutout innings in a 9-1 win over the Milwaukee Brewers. Skubal allowed just four hits, issued no walks, and struck out nine in this one. He didn't allow his first hit until the fifth inning, and the Brewers really didn't stand a chance all night. The reigning Cy Young winner now has a 2.66 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and 25 strikeouts in 23 ⅔ IP as he continues to be one of the games best pitchers. He is arguably the most valuable pitcher in fantasy.--Matt Garon - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

4 days agoLos Angeles Dodgers shortstop Mookie Betts delivered a solid overall performance on Monday, going 2-for-4 with a homer, a double, two runs scored, and two RBI. Betts hit a two-run homer in the first inning to set the tone for the Dodgers. The 32-year-old has been his usual self so far this season, hitting .304 with a .954 OPS and four homers. The only downside so far has been his lack of speed, with only one stolen base to his name. He should continue to be an elite contributor in fantasy, and it helps that he is hitting in one of the best lineups in baseball.--Matt Garon - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

4 days agoSan Diego Padres outfielder Fernando Tatis Jr. delivered a standout performance on Monday, going 3-for-5 with two home runs, three runs scored, and three RBI in a 10–4 victory over the Chicago Cubs. Tatis launched a solo shot in the third inning and followed up with a two-run homer in the eighth as he continued to torch the ball early in the season. This performance elevated Tatis' season stats to a .361 average, six home runs, 16 runs scored, 12 RBI, and six stolen bases. Tatis is a five-category stud, and with the way he is playing right now, he could end up being one of the best players for fantasy this season.--Matt Garon - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

5 days agoNew York Yankees closer Devin Williams picked up his second save of the season in Monday's 4-1 win over the Royals. Williams came in to pitch the top of the ninth inning up by three. He allowed a leadoff single to Bobby Witt Jr., got the first out on a pop-out, allowed a walk, and got the final two outs on another pop-out and a line-out. Things have not gone smoothly for the 30-year-old in his first season with his new team, as he has converted both of his save opportunities but has a 7.20 ERA, seven strikeouts, and six walks in just five innings of work. Williams has been one of fantasy's most reliable relief pitchers throughout his career and was traded for to fill a closing void for the Yankees, so fantasy managers should remain patient with him early on.--Connelly Doan - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

5 days agoSan Francisco Giants second baseman Tyler Fitzgerald got the hard parts done but could not hit for the cycle in Monday's 10-4 win over the Phillies. Fitzgerald went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, a three-run home run, and a strikeout. The 27-year-old took a second-inning Taijuan Walker cutter over the left-field wall for his first long ball of the season. Fitzgerald has continued to flash the power-speed combo that garnered fantasy attention in 2024, slashing .286/.333/.476 with four RBI and four stolen bases in 47 plate appearances. He has also cut down on the strikeouts, posting a 21.3% strikeout rate after striking out at a poor 31.7% clip in 2024. He has hit at the bottom of the lineup, but the Giants have gotten off to a hot start, helping boost Fitzgerald's fantasy appeal in at least all roto leagues.--Connelly Doan - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com

5 days agoTampa Bay Rays outfielder Kameron Misner got in on the action in Monday's 16-1 win over the Red Sox. Misner went 3-for-4 with a single, a solo home run, a two-run HR, and a walk. The 27-year-old drove a second-inning Tanner Houck breaking pitch over the left-center wall to score two and finished the scoring parade in the eighth inning, taking a Brennan Bernardino breaking pitch just over the right-field wall. Misner came into the season with no fantasy hype but has produced at a high level early on, slashing .400/.444/.775 with three HR, nine RBI, and a stolen base in 45 plate appearances. He has never produced extraordinary minor-league numbers, but fantasy managers could potentially turn to him as a spark plug for their lineups in the short term.--Connelly Doan - RotoBallerSource: MLB.com
