4 months agoBrooks Koepka missed The Open in 2016, so this week will be his first visit to Royal Troon in Scotland. The five-time major winner has claimed one victory on the LIV Tour this season, but he's been largely disappointing otherwise, failing to log a top-25 finish in any of the previous three majors this year. Despite the questionable run of form recently and the fact that his last two appearances in The Open have been poor, Koepka still costs a pricey $9,000 on DraftKings. Fantasy managers looking to catch lightning in a bottle will likely get the 34-year-old at low ownership this week.Source: PGA Tour

4 months agoLudvig Aberg finished tied for fourth at last week's Genesis Scottish Open. Aberg was leading by two strokes heading into the final round on Sunday, but he slipped down the leaderboard after posting a disappointing 73. Despite stumbling on Sunday, Aberg has been in excellent form this season with two top-five, one top-10, and one top-15 finish in his last six tournaments. Aberg will look to put last week's final round behind him as he prepares to tee it up at Royal Troon for his debut at The Open Championship. It's worth mentioning that Aberg ranks in the 92nd percentile in greens in regulation percentage on approach shots from 150-200 yards in the fairway over the past 12 months. This is significant because there are 101 bunkers spread throughout Royal Troon, and any wayward shots could be costly for golfers. Despite being a debutant at The Open Championship, Aberg's excellent form suggests he could be a solid addition to DFS lineups this week.Source: Data Golf
4 months agoScottie Scheffler is making his first appearance since winning last month's Travelers Championship. He'll tee it up at Royal Troon for this week's The Open Championship, his fourth consecutive appearance. Scheffler has a strong track record at The Open Championship, finishing tied for eighth in 2021, T21 in 2022, and T23 in 2023. It's worth noting that Scheffler ranks in the 99th percentile in greens in regulation percentage on approach shots from 150-200 yards in the fairway. This is significant because Royal Troon has 101 bunkers spread across the course, meaning any inaccurate shots could be costly for golfers. Given Scheffler's current good form and previous success at The Open Championship, he could be a valuable addition to DFS lineups this week.Source: Data Golf
4 months agoTom Hoge has had some good and bad results the past couple of months. The American golfer started well at The Memorial before fading. He missed the cut at the US Open and Genesis Scottish Open. The odd thing is that Hoge shot a 62 in the final round at The Travelers Championship. Hoge ended up tied for third in Connecticut as a result. Links golf has not been so kind to the 35-year-old. He has missed his last couple of cuts. Hoge normally is so good approaching the green (ranks second in strokes gained at 0.911). He putts well enough which may make him a reasonable option for DFS this weekend. Source: PGATour.com
4 months agoKurt Kitayama has stuggled in his time playing at The Open Championship. The American golfer has missed a few cuts and barely made it a few times. Kitayama's 2024 season has been frustrating. He rebounded after an awful missed cut at the US Open to produce two Top 35 results. It was not great but Kitayama did fire a closing round 65 at the Genesis Scottish Open. He sets up well but putting ranks 151st with -0.378 strokes gained. Too many times the golfer winds up in trouble but Kitayama did play well on Sunday. He could be an option for bettors looking for a longer shot Top 20 result. Source: PGATour.com
4 months agoRyan Fox has been a little bit off the past several tournaments. The New Zealand golfer cracked the Top 10 at the RBC Canadian Open for the third time in 2024. However, Fox has struggled since. He finished outside the Top 50 in three consecutive tournaments. The bright side is Fox has made seven straight cuts. When it comes to The Open Championship, Fox has one Top 20, a couple missed cuts, and little else of notice. Fox can drive balls at the average of 309.3 yards and ranks 49th in putting strokes gained (0.271). Fox has experience but can he start off well. That is the question mark. Source: PGATour.com
4 months agoAkshay Bhatia picked the right time to heat up. The American golfer has consecutive Top 5 finishes including a tied for second at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. He played well enough to stay in contention at the US Open in June. Bhatia has had an interesting 2024 as he heads over to play at The Open Championship.. Links golf for the 22-year-old could be good for the Californian. Bhatia putts well enough (27th in strokes gained at 0.382). He approaches greens very well (Top 10 in strokes gained the past two tournaments). Bhatia could be a good DFS option for this weekend. Source: PGATour.com
4 months agoTaylor Moore heads to The Open Championship off a missed cut. The American golfer shot an opening round 75 last Thursday. Although he followed that up with a 68, Moore did not see the weekend. Links golf is a different beast as the golfer learned quickly. Last year at Royal Liverpool, Moore shot a +4 to miss the cut. A big concern is that 137th ranking in strokes gained approaching the green (-0.316). Shots never go as they seem at Royal Troon so Moore will have to find a way to avoid bogeys early. Expect the American to be tested early and often in the cool and potentially damp at times conditions. Source: PGATour.com
4 months agoChristiaan Bezuidenhout decided to withdraw from the Genesis Scottish Open. He had a tough start, being five-over after completing two holes and posting a 69 in the first round. The withdrawal was prompted by an undisclosed injury, which is unfortunate considering that The Open Championship is scheduled for next week. Bezuidenhout had been showing strong form, with three top-25 finishes in his last four tournaments.Source: PGA Tour
4 months agoViktor Hovland ranks 148th in this field in strokes gained around the green. He has gained in that area only once in his 11 starts with his worst performance coming at the US Open where he lost nearly 4 strokes chipping in two rounds before missing the cut by a stroke. The rest of his game ranks 5th off the tee, 13th on approach and 35th in putting. If he can find the chipping form that saw him end 2023 with three wins, he can once again start competing for victory again. Source: pga
4 months agoByeong Hun An has had four top-five finishes this year, which is 25% of his 16 starts so far. An also has a T3 in his only appearance at the Scottish Open, which makes for a convergence of form and course history in North Berwick that could see the talented, long-hitting Korean find his first win on the PGA Tour. He lost in a playoff at the Sony Open and finished third at the Wells Fargo Championship earlier in May. If he is not in contention for a win, his floor results are often outside the top 20.Source: pga
4 months agoSi Woo Kim has been a model of consistency for fantasy managers in recent months. The 29-year-old Korean star has only missed one cut in the 2024 calendar year, a string of golf that includes 18 events and 10 finishes inside of the top-25. Perhaps more impressive, he's only lost strokes ball-striking once this year. Whether or not Kim brings his putter with him this week will likely be the determining factor in his success. Over the last 24 rounds, he ranks inside of the top third in the field in weighted strokes gained off-the-tee, on approach, and around the green, yet he ranks 133rd in strokes gained putting. On the bright side, Kim has gained strokes putting in two consecutive events, a feat he hasn't accomplished since January of 2023. Kim profiles as a cut-maker with top-25 upside at the Scottish Open, and he could find himself in contention on Sunday if his recent positive putting travels to North Berwick.Source: PGA Tour

4 months agoMackenzie Hughes has not had a top-20 finish this year that saw his score get lower than -10. With winds projected to remain low this week, scores could get lower, blowing away any chance Hughes has of contending at this kind of venue given his lack luster ball striking that ranks 108th in this field. He does, however, possess a top-5 short game which will likely be less useful with the increased number of greens the lack of anticipated wind will allow golfers to hit this week. Source: pga
