9 months agoLos Angeles Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams (knee), who tore his ACL in Week 3 against the Minnesota Vikings last year, said he's "slightly ahead" of schedule in his rehab. He didn't really provide many other details about his rehab, other than said he's "feeling good." Before his injury, Williams was moving around the field more than ever before, lining up 47 times in the slot in the first three games -- more than half as much as he had in 13 games in 2022. He had 19 catches for 249 yards and a touchdown before getting hurt, the second-best numbers of his seven-year career in the first three weeks of a season. The bad news is the 29-year-old is coming off yet another injury and now has an offensive coordinator that has led run-first offenses in the past. The good news is that barring any setbacks this offseason, Williams should be ready for Week 1 this fall.Source: Chargers.com - Omar Navarro
9 months agoThe Los Angeles Chargers officially hired Greg Roman as their new offensive coordinator on Tuesday, according to a source. Roman is one of the more accomplished offensive coordinators in the league, so it's a huge addition to new head coach Jim Harbaugh's staff in LA. Roman most recently served as the Baltimore Ravens' offensive coordinator in 2022 under Jim's older brother, John Harbaugh. He has coached some of the top offenses in the NFL in recent years, including the 2011-14 San Francisco Giants alongside Jim Harbaugh and the Ravens from 2019-22. Roman has been with Jim Harbaugh since their days at Stanford and will now join him for a third time in Los Angeles. It's great news for a Bolts offense that has underperformed in recent seasons.Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport
9 months agoThe Los Angeles Chargers are expected to hire respected offensive mind Greg Roman for a prominent spot on the staff of new head coach Jim Harbaugh, according to sources. The two sides are working out details and are scheduled to meet on Monday. Roman last served as the offensive coordinator for Jim's brother John with the Baltimore Ravens in 2022. He spent six years with Baltimore in his second stint with the team and helped quarterback Lamar Jackson win his first MVP award. Roman also worked under Jim Harbaugh as an associate head coach at Stanford before serving as Harbaugh's offensive coordinator with the San Francisco 49ers from 2011-14, so the two are very familiar with each other. Roman also worked as the offensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills.Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport
9 months agoThe Los Angeles Chargers are expected to hire former Baltimore Ravens, San Francisco 49ers and Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Greg Roman as their new offensive coordinator, according to league sources. Roman last led Baltimore's offense in 2022 and was new Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh's offensive coordinator with the Niners. The 51-year-old has a reputation of being a run-heavy offensive coordinator, but in Los Angeles he'll inherit one of the better young quarterbacks in the game in Justin Herbert, while starting running back Austin Ekeler heads into unrestricted free agency in March. Still, whoever the Bolts have lined up as their primary running back next season will be intriguing for fantasy purposes with Roman now expected to lead their offense.Source: KPRC 2 Sports - Aaron Wilson
9 months agoLos Angeles Chargers wide receiver Quentin Johnston, who disappointed in his first NFL season after being taken in the first-round out of TCU, believes he can break out in his sophomore season under new head coach Jim Harbaugh. Johnston struggled with drops (three) and finished 2023 with only 38 receptions for 431 yards and two touchdowns despite Mike Williams (knee) going down with a season-ending torn ACL early in the year. "I didn't really get a chance to show who I really was and what type of player I am, but I still got the world of confidence in myself even if nobody doesn't," Johnston said. "And so, you know, going into this next season, I can't wait. Like I said, I feel like I'm due for a breakout, so I'm very excited for that." Johnston has time to turn things around and will be worth a late-round fantasy flier now that Harbaugh is in LA.Source: ESPN.com - Kris Rhim
9 months agoThe Los Angeles Chargers are targeting Baltimore Ravens director of player personnel Joe Hortiz as their new general manager, according to sources. Hortiz will be paired with new head coach Jim Harbaugh in LA. The 48-year-old has been with the Ravens for the last 26 years, starting as a football personnel assistant and holding his current role since 2019. He oversaw both college and pro scouting for the Ravens and helped general manager Eric DeCosta and head coach John Harbaugh, Jim's brother. Hortiz and Harbaugh's relationship will be among the biggest questions that Harbaugh and the team's leadership will have to answer, as Harbaugh's fractured relationship with 49ers GM Trent Baalke from 2011-14 eventually led to his exit from the NFL. Hortiz will be replacing Tom Telesco, who was the Chargers' GM for the last 11 seasons.Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport
9 months agoNew Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh will bring defensive coordinator Jesse Minter with him to the NFL from Michigan to serve as the team's next defensive coordinator. It's also expected that Harbaugh's former offensive coordinator from his days as the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers, Greg Roman, will join him to run the Chargers' offense in 2024. Harbaugh's son, Jay, should also be a part of his new staff in his return to the NFL. Minter was with the Baltimore Ravens for four years before joining the college ranks at Vanderbilt. He will be replacing Kellen Moore, who departed the Bolts to serve as the Philadelphia Eagles' offensive coordinator. The Chargers have talent on the defensive side of the ball, but injuries have worked against them in recent seasons.Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero
9 months agoThe Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia Eagles have requested permission to interview Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator Kellen Moore for their offensive-coordinator positions, according to sources. With Jim Harbaugh officially signing a five-year deal to become the next Chargers' head coach, the Bolts are expected to let Moore speak with other teams. The 35-year-old came to LA last offseason after four seasons running the Dallas Cowboys' offense. Under Moore and head coach Brandon Staley in 2023, the Chargers' offense stalled, finishing 18th in total yards and 21st in points scored. Back in 2019, the Cowboys finished first in yards and sixth in points scored with Moore as their offensive coordinator. The Browns fired Alex Van Pelt and the Eagles fired Brian Johnson after the 2023 season.Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero
9 months agoThe Los Angeles Chargers are officially moving to hire Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh as their next head coach. Harbaugh was in town for a second interview on Tuesday and is not expected to leave. After winning the National Championship with the Wolverines, he will now head back to the NFL for the first time since coaching the San Francisco 49ers in 2011-14. He has won at every level he's coached, beginning in 2006 at the University of San Diego. In his final two seasons as a quarterback in the NFL, he played for the Chargers in 1999-00. Harbaugh was the Coach of the Year in his first season with the Niners and led the team to Super Bowl XLVII, where they lost to the Baltimore Ravens and his brother John. He went 44-19-1 in his time in San Francisco. The Chargers finished 5-12 in 2023 and have only three playoff victories since 2008.Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport
9 months agoThe Los Angeles Chargers and Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh are in striking distance of getting a deal done, as Harbaugh is in Los Angeles on Tuesday for another meeting with the team for their vacant head-coaching position. The Chargers reportedly have made a very strong offer financially to Harbaugh and are at a point where they are discussing the general manager position and the rest of the coaching staff. After winning the National Championship with Michigan this past season, Harbaugh has had his sights set on returning to the NFL in 2024 and beyond, and he could be doing it in LA. Harbaugh finished his playing career with the Chargers and had plenty of success coaching in the NFL the first time with the San Francisco 49ers, whom he led to a Super Bowl appearance in his second season with the franchise.Source: NFL Network - Mike Garofolo
9 months agoMichigan head coach Jim Harbaugh is expected to meet with the Los Angeles Chargers this week for the second time about their head-coaching job, according to sources. Harbaugh and the Chargers have been linked ever since the team fired former head coach Brandon Staley and general manager Tom Telesco on Dec. 5. Harbaugh played quarterback for 14 years in the NFL and spent his final two seasons with the Chargers in 1999-00. In addition to the Bolts, the Atlanta Falcons have also scheduled a second interview with Harbaugh. He's considered one of the most desirable head-coaching candidates during his hiring cycle because of his record of winning basically everywhere he's coached. He just won the National Championship with the Wolverines and went 44-19-1 in his four seasons coaching the San Francisco 49ers from 2011-14, including a Super Bowl appearance.Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter
9 months agoThe Los Angeles Chargers interviewed former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel and former Stanford head coach David Shaw for their head-coaching job on Thursday, according to sources. It's the first known interview for the 48-year-old Vrabel, who went 54-45 with three playoff trips in six seasons as the head coach for the Titans. The Seattle Seahawks and Atlanta Falcons are also interested in Vrabel for their head-coaching vacancies after Vrabel was fired by Tennessee last week following a 6-11 2023 season. In addition to Vrabel and Shaw, the Bolts have interviewed Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh, former Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier and Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn.Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero
9 months agoThe Los Angeles Chargers conducted a head-coaching interview with Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan on Tuesday. Callahan's interview was remote, as coaches on other teams are barred from in-person interviews until after the Divisional Round of the playoffs. He joined the Bengals in 2019 and helped head coach Zac Taylor build an offense that carried the team to Super Bowl LVI. The Chargers have also interviewed Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh, former Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, 49ers DC Steve Wilks, Ravens DC Mike MacDonald, Ravens OC Todd Monken, Raiders DC Patrick Graham and their own OC Kellen Moore and interim head coach Giff Smith for their opening at head coach.Source: Pro Football Talk - Josh Alper
9 months agoMichigan head coach Jim Harbaugh will be in Los Angeles on Monday to meet with the Chargers about their head-coaching job, according to sources. The 60-year-old head coach spent the last week celebrating Michigan's National championship, but now he's focused on his future, which could be with the Chargers. The Las Vegas Raiders are also interested in Harbaugh, but it was reported over the weekend that interim coach Antonio Pierce is the leading candidate to be promoted for 2024 and beyond. The Bolts have other candidates to interview as well, so a decision on Harbaugh isn't expected in the immediate future. Harbaugh's meeting with the Chargers is currently his only known meeting with an NFL team.Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero
9 months agoThe Los Angeles Chargers completed an interview with Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike MacDonald for their head-coaching job on Saturday night. In addition to MacDonald, the Bolts interviewed San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks for the same position. With the Ravens having a first-round bye in the playoffs, MacDonald also interviewed with the Atlanta Falcons and Carolina Panthers this week. He's in his second season as the defensive coordinator in Baltimore and his unit was a big reason the Ravens secured the top seed in the AFC this year. Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken also head a head-coaching interview with the Chargers this week, while director of player personnel Joe Hortiz interviewed for LA's general-manager opening.Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter
