8 months agoThe Indianapolis Colts re-signed backup center Jack Anderson to a one-year deal ahead of 2024 free agency. Originally a 2021 seventh-round pick by the Buffalo Bills out of Texas Tech, Anderson has played in 15 games with three starts between his time with the Colts, Bills, New York Giants, and Philadelphia Eagles. He did not log a snap in 2023. Starting center Ryan Kelly is one of the best players at his position, so this is simply a depth-solidifying move for the organization that aims to protect second-year quarterback Anthony Richardson in 2024.Source: Indianapolis Colts on X
8 months agoThe Indianapolis Colts are using their franchise tag on wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. on Tuesday, according to sources. The tag will be worth $21.816 million, so that's what Pittman will receive in 2024 if he and the Colts aren't able to agree on a long-term extension by the deadline in mid-July. The Colts made it clear that they weren't going to let the 26-year-old wideout reach the open market this offseason. Despite working with quarterback Gardner Minshew for the majority of 2023, the former second-rounder in 2020 out of USC put up career-highs in catches (109), targets (156) and receiving yards (1,152) while scoring four times in 16 games. Pittman is a no-doubt WR1 in fantasy that could have even more upside with young QB Anthony Richardson (shoulder) returning in 2024.Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero
8 months agoIndianapolis Colts right tackle Braden Smith (knee) had surgery on the knee that had him hobbled for much of last season, according to general manager Chris Ballard. The Colts are hoping for a much healthier 2024 season out of Smith after he missed seven games in 2023 due to the injury. The former second-round selection in 2018 out of Auburn has had his fair share of injury concerns in his six seasons in the NFL, but the Colts are hoping his recent surgery will make his knee injury a thing of the past heading into the 2024 campaign. The 27-year-old offensive lineman has two years left on his four-year, $70 million deal.Source: Indianapolis Star - Nate Atkins
8 months agoIndianapolis Colts general manager Chris Ballard said that impending free-agent wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. will be on the roster come Week 1 of the 2024 season this fall, either by an extension or the franchise tag, if necessary. The Colts aren't planning to let Pittman get away in free agency this offseason. The 26-year-old would make $21.8 million this year if he plays under the franchise tag, but both sides would prefer an extension. The former second-round pick in 2020 out of USC has blossomed into a WR1 in fantasy after four seasons in the league, two of which (including 2023) resulted in 1,000-yard seasons. Pittman had career-highs in catches (109), targets (156) and receiving yards (1,152) while scoring four times in 16 games last year. He could get even better with young quarterback Anthony Richardson returning from injury in 2024.Source: Indianapolis Star - Nate Atkins
8 months agoGiven the fact that the Indianapolis Colts' secondary was repeatedly torched last year due to its inexperience and injuries in the cornerback room, The Athletic's James Boyd suggests that it wouldn't be a surprise if the team addressed that issue with the No. 15 overall pick in the first round of this year's NFL draft. Kenny Moore II, the team's most experienced cornerback, is scheduled to become a free agent in March, and even if they re-sign the 28-year-old, there are no other proven options at the position on the roster. Last year's second-rounder, JuJu Brents, showed promise, but injuries limited him to nine games as a rookie. If the Colts decide to use their early draft picks on another position, they will need to address the cornerback position through free agency.Source: The Athletic - James Boyd
8 months agoThe Athletic's James Boyd writes that Indianapolis Colts tight end Mo Alie-Cox is an easy target if the team wishes to create more salary cap space this offseason. He's entering the final year of a three-year, $17.6 million contract extension that he signed in 2022. Alie-Cox is due the last $5.9 million of that in 2024, but none of it is guaranteed. The 30-year-old is the team's best blocking tight end and has recorded at least three touchdowns in each of the last three seasons, but he's not getting any younger and is unlikely to develop into a true No. 1 pass-catching tight end at this point of his career. Both Will Mallory and third-year tight end Jelani Woods, who missed all of 2023 with hamstring issues, give the Colts more upside at the position amid their current youth movement. Alie-Cox hasn't been much more than a low-upside, touchdown-dependent TE2 option for fantasy managers in deep leagues.Source: The Athletic - James Boyd
8 months agoIndianapolis Colts general manager Chris Ballard has acknowledged that using the franchise tag on impending free-agent wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. this offseason is an option. Pittman has been the team's leading receiver the past three seasons and will be one of the league's top free agents if he reaches the open market. The Colts have been more reluctant than most teams to use the tag -- they haven't used the tag on a player since tagging former punter Pat McAfee in 2013. Tagging Pittman in 2024 would cost around $20.7 million. The 26-year-old has accumulated 336 catches, 3,662 yards and 15 touchdowns in his first four seasons, which would put him in line to cash in considerably on the open market. No matter where Pittman lands in 2024 if he hits the free-agent market, he should profile as a WR1 in fantasy.Source: Indianapolis Star - Joel A. Erickson
8 months agoIndianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson (shoulder) is throwing again after suffering a Grade 3 AC joint sprain in October that required surgery. The No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft flashed fantasy upside early in his career, averaging 23.1 fantasy points per game through his first three starts. However, he suffered a concussion and a major shoulder injury before making it to Week 6. The 6'4" signal-caller has elite physical traits, but he'll have to find a way to stay healthy to live up to his potential. With Richardson already throwing in February, he's likely to be one of the first 10 quarterbacks off the board in 2024 fantasy drafts due to his rushing upside.Source: Deiric Jackson
9 months agoIndianapolis Colts impending free-agent running back Zack Moss said that he would be interested in re-signing with the team this offseason. Moss showed that he still belongs in the league in 2023 when he took advantage of added opportunities with Jonathan Taylor missing time due to injuries. The 26-year-old played in 14 games (eight starts) and was productive with 794 rushing yards and a career-high five touchdowns on 183 rushing attempts, adding 27 receptions on 37 targets for an additional 192 yards and two touchdowns. If Moss does return to the Colts, it will be as the clear backup to Taylor, and he won't be nearly as productive unless Taylor misses more time due to injury. At best, he'll be a handcuff option for fantasy managers that take Taylor in fantasy drafts this fall if he returns to the Colts.Source: Indianapolis Star - Nate Atkins
9 months agoIndianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson's (shoulder) rookie season in 2023 was cut short by an AC joint sprain in his right shoulder that required surgery, but he's hoping to resume throwing in the near future, ahead of his doctors' projections. The Colts would have preferred that Richardson played the season out after drafting him fourth overall, but sitting out could actually benefit the young QB in the long term. "He got a chance to sit back, watch and learn. I had some good meetings with him throughout the season, just individually, me and him, sitting down talking football. Just seeing the NFL season as a whole," head coach Shane Steichen said. The 21-year-old should be ready well ahead of training camp this summer, and his combination of size and speed at the QB position will give him clear QB1 upside as Indy's quarterback of the future.Source: ESPN.com - Stephen Holder
9 months agoThe Buffalo Bills aren't done playing yet, but they're already adding to their 2024 roster. On Saturday, the Bills signed wide receiver KJ Hamler to a reserve/future contract. Hamler didn't play at all this season and spent a majority of the time on the Indianapolis Colts practice squad. The 2020 second-round pick has been a bust so far throughout his NFL career. There's hope that he can turn his career around, but he'll need to crack the 53-man roster in training camp.Source: Aaron Wilson
9 months agoIndianapolis Colts rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson (shoulder) only played in four games in his first year in the NFL in 2023 due to a shoulder injury that eventually required season-ending surgery, but in that small sample size he managed to impress the team with his throwing ability, which had been a question mark coming into the draft. "Here's this big, talented athlete. I mean, this guy is a legitimate passer, and I believe that. I think he's going to continue to get better and improve the more he plays. But Anthony can play from the pocket and throw the ball accurately," general manager Chris Ballard said. Richardson threw a catchable pass on 85.7% of his 84 pass attempts, which align with Brock Purdy's numbers for the full season. Despite only playing in four games his rookie year, Richardson is going to be an attractive QB1 with upside heading into fall fantasy drafts.Source: Indianapolis Star - Nate Atkins
9 months agoA report from TMZ on Wednesday cited a police report from December that said officers responded to a call and found Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay unresponsive in his bed before giving him Narcan and calling the incident an "overdose" and "overdose/poisoning." Earlier this month, the Colts said that Irsay, who has battled drug and alcohol addiction, is being treated for a severe respiratory illness. "Mr. Irsay continues to recover from his respiratory illness," the team said in another statement issued on Wednesday. "We will have no further comment on his personal health, and we continue to ask that Jim and his family's privacy be respected." The 64-year-old has been the owner of the Colts since 1997. Hopefully, Irsay has a speedy recovery and is back to good health sooner than later.Source: Pro Football Talk - Josh Alper
10 months agoIndianapolis Colts wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr., who is coming off the best season of his career with 109 catches, 1,152 yards and four touchdowns, is set to enter free agency for the first time in his career in March. His 109 receptions are tied with Marvin Harrison for the fourth-most in franchise history, and they were also the fifth-most in the NFL in 2023. While Pittman said he's loved his time in Indianapolis, he's intent on testing the open market for the first time in his career. When asked about the possibility of the Colts putting the franchise tag on him to limit his free-agent options, Pittman said, "The franchise tag, I don't think anybody would be displeased with $23 million. The franchise tag is almost like a tag of respect because you get paid like the top five of your position." Regardless of where the 26-year-old ends up in 2024, he's going to be highly coveted in fantasy drafts this fall.Source: FOX 59 - Mike Chappell
10 months agoIndianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay (illness) is being treated for a severe respiratory illness, according to the team. "While this unfortunately means he won't be able to perform with his band this week in Los Angeles, he is receiving excellent care and looks forward to returning to the stage as soon as possible," the Colts said in a statement. "We'll have no additional information at this time and we ask that you respect the privacy of Jim and his family as he recovers." The 64-year-old has owned the Colts since 1997 and has faced several health challenges over the years, in part due to previous bouts with alcohol and drug addiction. Under first-year head coach Shane Steichen in 2023, the Colts finished just short of the playoffs at 9-8 after going 4-12-1 in 2022.Source: The Athletic - James Boyd
