3 weeks agoColorado Avalanche left wing Miles Wood (upper body) is considered month-to-month. Wood was placed on Injured Reserve with an upper-body injury on Thursday, and he apparently faces an extended absence. The 29-year-old has been out of the lineup for two games already. Wood works in the bottom six for Colorado and has registered three points (two goals, one assist) in 16 games this season. Chris Wagner has replaced Wood in the lineup, but he doesn't offer anything to fantasy managers.Source: Conor McGahey
3 weeks agoWashington Capitals defenseman John Carlson tallied three helpers during Saturday's victory over the New Jersey Devils. One of Carlson's assists came on the power-play. In this game, the 34-year-old also tallied five shots on goal with one block. This extended Carlson's current point streak to three games. Through November, Carlson tallied 11 points (1 goal, ten helpers) in 15 games. Overall, he has tallied 19 points through 24 games this season with 41 blocks, 62 shots, and 22 hits. Given his stable production in all standard categories and consistently seeing top minutes, John Carlson remains a must-start option in all formats and a solid pick in DFS, given his role in the Washington lineup.Source: NHL.com
3 weeks agoPittsburgh Penguins defenseman Kris Letang tallied a goal and two assists during Saturday's commanding victory over the Calgary Flames. All three of Letang's points came on the man-advantage. His goal came on off a slap shot in the final frame. Letang also registered two hits and one block in this contest as well. This was the 37-year-old's first three-point showing of the season and only his third time finding the back of the net. This was also his first time getting back on the scoresheet since November 8. While the veteran defenseman has disappointed this season, fantasy managers in deeper formats should continue to hold onto him as he still sees top-pairing minutes and provides a solid amount of blocks (15 in 11 games in November). In addition, fantasy managers should expect his scoring to slowly return as he has tallied at least 40+ points in each campaign since 2018.Source: NHL.com
3 weeks agoPittsburgh Penguins left wing Michael Bunting tallied a goal and two assists in their victory over the Calgary Flames on Saturday evening. Bunting tallied the secondary assist on Anthony Beauvillier's opening goal. Later in the second, Bunting would find the back of the net on the power-play and then tally another assist on Philip Tomasino's eventual game-winning power-play strike. This was a nice breakthrough outing for Bunting, as he had gone scoreless over his previous three games and tallied just six points in November before Saturday. Fantasy managers in deeper formats should continue to hold on to Bunting as he has shown upside on the power-play (three PPG in November) and has usually continued to see top-9 minutes.Source: NHL.com
3 weeks agoNew York Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorokin stopped all 29 shots he faced en route to defeating the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday evening. The Islanders were slightly outshot in this contest, but Sorokin was able to lead the way and snap their three-game skid. This was a great bounce-back for the Russian netminder as he allowed a season-high five goals in his previous start on November 27 against the Boston Bruins. In total, the 29-year-old has posted a solid .915% SV and a 2.52 GAA with a 6-6-3 overall record. Fantasy managers should continue to expect Sorokin to split time with Semyon Varlamov. However, Varlamov surrendered eight goals over his previous two outings, which could open the door for Sorokin to see a more significant majority of the starts going forward.Source: NHL.com
3 weeks agoToronto Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews tallied two helpers in his return on Saturday evening. The captain missed the previous nine contests with an upper-body injury. However, the superstar looked sharp in his return, tallying two points to lead Toronto to victory. His first assist came on the opening goal by Matthew Knies. Later in the third, Matthews would register the primary assist on William Nylander's empty-net goal to clinch the victory. Before his injury, Matthews tallied five goals and six helpers across 13 games with four power-play points. Fantasy managers should expect the former top overall pick to remain a fantasy star for the remainder of the season, especially from a scoring standpoint, playing on the top unit alongside Matthew Knies and William Nylander.Source: NHL.com
3 weeks agoUtah Hockey Club right wing Nick Schmaltz found the back of the net twice during Saturday's victory over the Utah Hockey Club. Schmaltz's first tally was in the opening frame off a wrist shot. Later in the second, the 28-year-old tallied a power-play goal to extend their lead. In addition, he also logged five shots on goal. These were Schmaltz's first two tallies of the campaign. Entering this game, he had registered just 17 helpers across 23 contests. Despite him just ending his scoring drought on Saturday, fantasy managers should continue to view him as a steady fantasy producer, given his role in the Utah top-6 and No.1 power-play unit. Schmaltz will look to stay hot on Monday when he faces the Dallas Stars.Source: NHL.com
3 weeks agoThe Minnesota Wild have acquired defenseman David Jiricek in a trade with the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Wild sent out minor league defenseman Daemon Hunt and multiple draft picks, including their 2025 first-round pick, in the deal while also receiving a fifth-round pick. Jiricek has been in trade rumors for a while, as he's been disgruntled with his role in the Blue Jackets organization. The 21-year-old was picked sixth in the 2022 draft but has barely played for the Blue Jackets. Jiricek has made only six NHL appearances this season, averaging 11:12 of ice time. The Czech blue-liner boasts 11 points (on goal, 10 assists) through 53 career games in the NHL. He gets a fresh start in Minnesota, but it remains to be seen where Jiricek fits in on this Wild team.Source: Sarah McLellan
3 weeks agoUtah Hockey Club defenseman Maveric Lamoureux (upper body) will be absent for 4-6 weeks. He'll be out for a second consecutive game on Saturday versus Vegas. Lamoureux has seen a solid amount of action during his rookie campaign, averaging 16:07 of ice time across 15 appearances. He has recorded one goal and two assists with 17 shots, 11 blocks, and 18 hits. Lamoureux's spot in the lineup has gone to Juuso Valimaki, who tallied an assist in Friday's 4-3 overtime loss to Edmonton. This marked his first point of the season in 17 contests, so it's safe to leave Valimaki on the waiver wire.Source: Utah Hockey Club PR
3 weeks agoCalgary Flames center Justin Kirkland (lower body) will miss Saturday's meeting with Pittsburgh. The 28-year-old suffered a lower-body injury in Friday's 5-2 defeat against Columbus. Kirkland has found decent success as a fourth-line forward, producing two goals and six assists in 21 appearances while delivering 45 hits. Adam Klapka, who is scoreless through five outings this season, will take over from Kirkland on Saturday. The Czech winger last saw action over a month ago, logging 9:15 of ice time in a 5-3 loss to Winnipeg on Oct. 26.Source: Pat Steinberg
3 weeks agoSeattle Kraken defenseman Vince Dunn (upper body) has been activated from long-term Injured Reserve, signaling he's ready to rejoin the lineup on Saturday against San Jose. Dunn has been out for 19 games, skating in just four contests so far this season. He's a true workhorse at the back for Seattle and should give the team a huge boost. Dunn's return will likely bump Brandon Montour back down to the second power-play unit, and he will replace Ryker Evans in the top four.Source: Mike Benton
3 weeks agoSt. Louis Blues defenseman Philip Broberg (knee) is expected to make his return to the lineup on Saturday against Philadelphia. He hasn't played since Nov. 2, sitting out 12 games due to a knee issue. Broberg had a special start to the season with his new club, logging a point in each of his first six appearances. He's on nine points (two goals, seven assists) with 12 games played overall. Broberg is projected to join Justin Faulk on the second defensive pairing and should also work with the second power-play unit in Saturday's contest.Source: NHL.com
3 weeks agoSt. Louis Blues forward Pavel Buchnevich (lower body) will not play in Saturday's contest against Philadelphia. He was injured Wednesday night versus New Jersey. Buchnevich is not expected to miss extended time and will get his first chance to return on Tuesday against Winnipeg. Alexandre Texier will take over Buchnevich's duties on the first line. The French forward is far less skilled and has been limited to three points (one goal, two assists) in 12 outings. Brayden Schenn will replace Buchnevich on the top power-play unit.Source: NHL.com
3 weeks agoToronto Maple Leafs left wing Matthew Knies (upper body) will return from a two-game absence on Saturday against Tampa Bay. He's set to land on the top line and the first power-play unit. In 20 contests, Knies has contributed eight goals and four assists while averaging 2.4 hits. Toronto also welcomes Auston Matthews (upper body) back on Saturday, giving the team a lot more firepower. Knies and Matthews will be joined on the first line by William Nylander, who has been on a hot streak lately with three multi-point performances in five games.Source: Sportsnet
3 weeks agoVancouver Canucks right wing Conor Garland played the lead role in Friday's 4-3 overtime victory at Buffalo, tallying three points. He netted two goals, including the game-winning marker, and dished out one assist. With the prolific performance, Garland extended his road point streak to nine games. Overall, Garland has collected at least one point in seven straight outings. He's now up to 21 points (eight goals, 13 assists) in 22 games for the season, trailing only Quinn Hughes (25) on the Canucks' scoring charts. Garland is currently exceeding fantasy managers' expectations significantly, as he has never had more than 52 points in a single season.Source: ESPN
