4 days agoUtah Hockey Club defenseman Olli Maatta (lower body) is a game-time call for Sunday's tilt against the Chicago Blackhawks. The Finnish rearguard was injured on Friday night in a matchup against the Florida Panthers and is now in danger of missing Sunday's action. Utah has seen Maatta produce 15 points (two goals, 13 assists) in 63 games since the team acquired him from the Detroit Red Wings in late October. He ranks third on the team with 112 blocks. Nick DeSimone and Robert Bortuzzo (lower body) are potential replacements for Maata if he is not available. Utah has activated Bortuzzo from Injured Reserve ahead of the game.Source: Mike Folta
4 days agoChicago Cubs infielder Justin Turner will get the starting nod at first base on Sunday when the Cubs conclude their series against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Turner will cover first base, which will move Michael Busch to the bench. Turner has not received a start through their first four games, but he has been deployed as a pinch-hitter twice. Across two plate appearances, Turner drew one walk and did not tally a hit. Fantasy managers should monitor how the Cubs set their lineup going forward, as Turner may be the primary first baseman when facing southpaws in favor of Busch. Last season, Turner posted a .259/.354/.383 slash line with 11 home runs. The 40-year-old is a viable budget option in DFS this afternoon, facing Arizona southpaw Eduardo Rodriguez.Source: MLB.com
4 days agoWashington Capitals goaltender Logan Thompson will patrol the crease in Sunday's matchup against the Buffalo Sabres. He has received the nod for the 41st time this season, heading into the battle with a 31-4-6 record. Thompson has been superb for the Capitals throughout 2024-25, going 6-0-1 over his last seven appearances. He has allowed 2.32 goals this season, producing a .917 save percentage along with two shutouts. Buffalo boasts a top-10 offense in the league, but Thompson is likely to add another win to his tally on Sunday, as the bookmakers view the Capitals as massive -333 favorites for the game.Source: Tarik El-Bashir
4 days agoSt. Louis Cardinals catcher Ivan Herrera is not in Sunday's lineup when the Cardinals conclude a series against the Minnesota Twins. Herrera started behind the plate in each of the first two games of the campaign. At the plate, Herrera enjoyed a hot start as he went 4-for-7 with two doubles and a 1:2 BB:K. He tallied two RBI and scored once. Instead, the Cardinals will turn to Pedro Pages to catch St. Louis right-hander Andre Pallante. Fantasy managers should expect Herrera to continue to be the primary backstop in St. Louis, and he will likely return to the starting nine on Monday against the Los Angeles Angels. Last season, the 24-year-old posted a strong .301/.372/.428 slash line with five long balls and five stolen bases. Given his hot start, he is a strong No. 2 catcher in two-catcher formats going forward.Source: MLB.com
4 days agoBuffalo Sabres defenseman Rasmus Dahlin (illness) is a game-time decision for Sunday's clash against the Washington Capitals. He has a chance to return to the lineup after missing Saturday's loss to the Philadelphia Flyers due to an illness. Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff told reporters that Dahlin is feeling better and will participate in the warm-ups on Sunday. Jacob Bryson entered the lineup against Philadelphia on Saturday and is likely to sit out Sunday's action if Dahlin is ready to return. Buffalo's No. 1 defenseman is looking to record his second 60-point campaign in 2024-25, currently sitting on 13 goals and 44 assists through 63 outings. Forward Sam Lafferty (groin) may also return to the Sabres lineup against Washington.Source: Paul Hamilton
4 days agoThe Texas Rangers have recalled shortstop Jonathan Ornelas from Triple-A Round Rock. Ornelas will provide some depth in the infield as the Rangers placed third baseman Josh Jung (neck) on the 10-day injured list. However, manager Bruce Bochy hopes that Jung only stays on the IL for a minimum stint. Last season, Ornelas appeared in 18 MLB contests and posted .216/.256/.270 slash line with two doubles and a 2:13 BB:K. Across 88 contests at Triple-A last summer, Ornelas posted a .251/.322/.326 line with 10 doubles, three triples, and three home runs. He also swiped nine bags. Fantasy managers should not expect Ornelas to see consistent opportunities, as Josh Smith (quadriceps) will likely see most of the time at the hot corner when he is cleared for action. On Sunday, Ornelas will bat eighth and cover shortstop.Source: Shawn McFarland
4 days agoNew York Knicks guard Cameron Payne (ankle) won't play in Sunday's game against Portland, marking his second-straight absence. Jalen Brunson (ankle) and Miles McBride (groin) are also out, so the Knicks may continue to rely on Delon Wright, who had 12 points in Friday's win over the Bucks, to fill the hole in the starting lineup. Landry Shamet, who had 13 points in that one, and Tyler Kolek should also see some meaningful minutes from off the bench.Source: NBA Injury Report
4 days agoBoston Red Sox shortstop Trevor Story is not in the starting lineup on Sunday when the Red Sox conclude a series against the Texas Rangers. Story has started each of the past three contests at shortstop. At the plate, Story went 1-for-11 with two runs, two stolen bases, and a 1:3 BB:K. As a result, David Hamilton will cover shortstop and bat eighth against Texas right-hander Jacob deGrom. Fantasy managers should expect Story to return to the starting nine on Monday when the team travels to Camden Yards to face the Baltimore Orioles. Story has battled numerous injuries over the past few seasons, but has performed well through the start of the season. He is a viable depth middle infielder in category formats, given his ability to steal bases and hit for power.Source: MLB.com
4 days agoNew York Knicks guard Miles McBride (groin) will remain out for Sunday's matchup with the Blazers. McBride had been filling in for Jalen Brunson (ankle). However, the Knicks now have even bigger issues, with Cameron Payne (ankle) also sidelined by a sprain. As a result, Delon Wright, coming off a 12-point effort in Friday's win over the Bucks, will likely stay in the starting lineup. Landry Shamet, who had 13 points in that one, and Tyler Kolek should also see more involvement.Source: NBA Injury Report
4 days agoLos Angeles Angels outfielder Jo Adell (hip) is feeling better and hopes to return to the starting nine on Monday when the Angels face the St. Louis Cardinals. Adell was removed early from Saturday's contest after suffering this hip injury. However, it does not sound serious, and Adell may only miss one game. On Sunday, Kyren Paris will cover center field and bat in the nine-hole. Last season, the 25-year-old began to turn the corner on his slow start to his MLB career. Adell launched a career-best 20 long balls and swiped 15 bags. However, he held a high 27.9 percent strikeout rate and drew walks at a modest 7.9 percent walk rate. Adell also generated an elite 76.7 mph bat speed and placed in the 86th percentile in sprint speed. When he does return, he is a viable depth outfielder in category leagues.Source: Rhett Bollinger
4 days agoPortland Trail Blazers guard Scoot Henderson (concussion) won't play on Sunday against the Knicks. He's now in concussion protocol, although his return to the floor could hinge on Portland's ability to earn a Play-In spot. With Anfernee Simons (forearm) questionable, the Blazers could be even more thin in the backcourt. But regardless of Simons' availability, Dalano Banton could see some meaningful minutes.Source: NBA Injury Report
4 days agoThe San Francisco 49ers owe wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk (knee) a $22.85 million bonus if he's on their roster on April 1, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Once the 49ers pay that bonus, any potential trade talks this offseason for Aiyuk would be off and he'd be expected to spend the 2025 season with the Niners. Schefter reports that no trade is expected by then for Aiyuk, who is expected to miss around half of the season after tearing his ACL and MCL in Week 7 against the Kansas City Chiefs in 2024. That will obviously be a huge hit to the 27-year-old's fantasy value for the 2025 season, especially after he was a big disappointment for his managers right before his season-ending knee injury. We will keep a close eye on Aiyuk's rehab this offseason, but as of right now, he won't be ready for training camp and will be a long shot to be ready for Week 1 this fall.Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter
4 days agoTexas Rangers starting pitcher Jacob deGrom will likely only throw 75 pitches in his first start on Sunday afternoon against the Boston Red Sox. deGrom missed the majority of the 2024 campaign due to Tommy John surgery. He returned at the end of the campaign and logged just 10 2/3 innings of work. In spring training, deGrom was able to make three starts and logged 10 innings to the tune of a 4.50 ERA. Fantasy managers should monitor his status on Sunday, but it appears the Rangers will continue to slowly increase his workload as the 36-year-old has only pitched more than 90 innings in a single season once since 2020. Over the past three campaigns, deGrom has logged just 105 1/3 total innings to the tune of a stellar 2.82 ERA and a 0.79 WHIP. Even though he may be limited in this start, he should still be viewed as a high-end SP2 in all formats.Source: Shawn McFarland
4 days agoPortland Trail Blazers guard Anfernee Simons (forearm) is questionable for Sunday's matchup with the New York Knicks. The Trail Blazers likely aren't going anywhere near the postseason in any capacity, so it's hard to gauge just how severe his injury is. With that said, Simons' absence could surely open the door for added production from Shaedon Sharpe and Deni Avdija. Scoot Henderson's (concussion) absence should also mean Dalano Banton could see some meaningful work, even more so if Jerami Grant (knee) remains out.Source: NBA Injury Report
4 days agoBaltimore Orioles second baseman/third baseman Jordan Westburg is not in the starting lineup for their contest against the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon. Westburg has been in the starting lineup in each of their first three contests. He has enjoyed a hot start to the campaign, launching three long balls with six total hits. Instead, the Orioles will move Jackson Holliday to the keystone and have Ramon Urias start at the hot corner. Fantasy managers should expect Westburg to return to the starting nine on Monday when they face the Boston Red Sox. Holliday and Urias are worth considering in DFS competitions this afternoon, facing Toronto right-hander Chris Bassitt, who struggled last season as he held a high 4.16 ERA with a 1.46 WHIP.Source: MLB.com

4 days agoCleveland Cavaliers guard Ty Jerome (knee) won't play on Sunday versus the Clippers, marking his third-consecutive absence. The Cavs are on track to finish as the top team in the Eastern Conference. However, the team will need to figure out how to keep the ship afloat without arguably their top bench option. While De'Andre Hunter is the favorite to claim most of the surplus minutes from off the bench, Craig Porter Jr., who had nine points, five boards, and three steals in Friday's loss to Detroit, could find his way back to the floor.Source: NBA Injury Report
4 days agoSt. Louis Cardinals outfielder Jordan Walker will get hit first day off of the season on Sunday against the visiting Minnesota Twins at Busch Stadium. Lars Nootbaar is in right field and batting leadoff again, while Brendan Donovan will start in left field and bat third against Twins right-hander Bailey Ober. The 22-year-old Walker might be in make-or-break season in St. Louis in 2025, but so far he's off to a good start in his first two ball games of the year, going 2-for-5 with two walks and a run scored in eight plate appearances as the team's regular right-fielder. Walker, the team's former top prospect, struggled in 168 big-league games over two seasons coming into this year with a .255/.317/.423 slash line with 154 strikeouts in 643 plate appearances. If Walker can make more contact, his power stroke will play in fantasy, and he's going to get plenty of run to prove himself.Source: MLB.com
4 days agoThe Baltimore Orioles announced on Sunday that they have placed right-hander Albert Suarez (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to March 29) with right-shoulder inflammation and have selected the contract of right-hander Matt Bowman from Triple-A Norfolk in a corresponding move. Suarez, 35, lost out on the No. 5 rotation spot out of spring training to left-hander Cade Povich and will now head to the IL early in the season after throwing 2 2/3 innings in his lone relief appearance on Friday against the division-rival Toronto Blue Jays in which he allowed two runs (one earned) and showed diminished velocity. It's unclear if he'll be able to come off the IL when he's eligible on April 13, but Suarez really isn't valuable in fantasy in deeper leagues unless he's in Baltimore's starting rotation.Source: Baltimore Orioles
4 days agoLos Angeles Clippers forward Kawhi Leonard (knee) won't suit up for Sunday's meeting with the Cavaliers. The Clippers play back-to-back contests, so Leonard will likely be back on Monday night against the Orlando Magic. In the meantime, Nicolas Batum is the favorite to take over at the four spot, with the veteran averaging 8.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.5 steals in eight starts during the 2024-25 campaign. Bogdan Bogdanovic should also be more involved on the offensive end behind James Harden and Norman Powell.Source: NBA Injury Report
4 days agoPittsburgh Pirates third baseman Ke'Bryan Hayes is not in the starting lineup on Sunday for the series finale at loanDepot Park against the Miami Marlins. Jared Triolo will make the start at the hot corner and will bat seventh against Marlins right-hander Max Meyer. Through the first three games of the 2025 season, Hayes, who had a disastrous 2024 campaign that ended early due to injury, has gone 2-for-13 with two stolen bases and two runs scored for the Bucs. If the 28-year-old doesn't show any improvement with his bat in the early going this year, there's a chance that Triolo could steal more and more playing time from him at third base. Triolo, meanwhile, comes into Sunday's finale having played in just one game while going hitless in his four at-bats with one strikeout. He has never faced Meyer in his career.Source: MLB.com
4 days agoWith Pittsburgh Pirates left-hander Andrew Heaney starting the series finale on Sunday at loanDepot Park against the hosting Miami Marlins, both third baseman Graham Pauley and outfielder Kyle Stowers will start on the bench. Jonah Bride will make the start at third base and will hit fifth, while Javier Sanoja is starting in left field and batting in the nine-hole for the Fish. Neither Bride nor Sanoja have ever faced Heaney. The 24-year-old Pauley and the 27-year-old Stowers will be regulars in Miami's starting lineup when the team faces right-handed pitchers, but they will often be rested against southpaws. Pauley has started the year 2-for-6 with a double and an RBI in the first two games of the year, while Stowers has gone 4-for-12 with two RBI, a stolen base and a run scored in 14 trips to the plate over three games played.Source: MLB.com
4 days agoMiami Marlins designated hitter Matt Mervis will take a seat on the bench to start Sunday's series finale against the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates at loanDepot Park with left-hander Andrew Heaney on the mound. With another southpaw starting for the Bucs, the lefty-hitting Mervis will start on the bench for the second straight game. In the first two games of the 2025 regular season, the 26-year-old had a single, a walk, a run scored and three strikeouts in eight plate appearances. Eric Wagaman is starting at first base on Sunday and is batting cleanup for the Fish against Heaney. Wagaman has one hit in just three career at-bats against Heaney. The 27-year-old is still searching for his first hit of the year after going hitless with a strikeout in seven at-bats over two games so far. Although he's only a fantasy option in NL-only leagues, Wagaman could see regular at-bats with Connor Norby (oblique) out for a month.Source: MLB.com
4 days agoCleveland Guardians third baseman Jose Ramirez (wrist) is absent from the series finale on Sunday against the division-rival Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium after he suffered a sprained right wrist on a stolen-base attempt in the third inning of Saturday's game. The good news is that manager Stephen Vogt said Ramirez is just day-to-day, so perhaps there's a chance he'll be ready to play in Monday's series opener against the hosting San Diego Padres at Petco Park after sitting out on Sunday. "He's doing alright. It's a mild sprain...he's day to day...we all know what that means with Josey...gonna see how he feels in the morning...think I'm going to have to hold him down to keep him out of there," Vogt said. With J-Ram out, Gabriel Arias is at third and batting seventh, while Daniel Schneemann gets the start at second and will bat eighth against Royals veteran right-hander Michael Wacha.Source: MLB.com
4 days agoPittsburgh Pirates catcher Joey Bart will take a seat on Sunday for the series finale against the Miami Marlins at loanDepot Park. With Bart resting, Endy Rodriguez will do the catching for left-hander Andrew Heaney and will bat sixth against Marlins right-hander Max Meyer. This will be Bart's first day off of the year after starting each of the team's first three games of the season, going 4-for-12 with an RBI, a stolen base and two runs scored. Rodriguez, who had the day off on Saturday, went hitless in six at-bats with four strikeouts in the first two games of the series, so he'll be searching for his first hit in 2025 on Sunday. It won't be easy, as Meyer is on of the best young arms in the game when he's healthy. Rodriguez has never faced Meyer in his career and will be cheap for DFS lineups but without much upside.Source: MLB.com
4 days agoToronto Blue Jays catcher Alejandro Kirk is not in Sunday's lineup when the Blue Jays conclude a series against the Baltimore Orioles. Kirk has started behind the dish in each of the first three games of the campaign. The 26-year-old has gone 2-for-11 at the plate with one run, one RBI, and two strikeouts. As a result, Tyler Heineman will get the nod behind the dish and bat in the eight-hole. Fantasy managers should expect Kirk to return to the starting nine on Monday when the Blue Jays play host to the Washington Nationals. Heineman appeared in just eight MLB contests last season and posted a mere .083 AVG and should not be targeted in any DFS competitions this afternoon.Source: MLB.com

4 days agoToronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Max Scherzer (thumb) was placed on the 15-day IL with right thumb inflammation. Scherzer was removed early from Saturday's contest after throwing just three innings. Initial reports suggested that it was due to a lat injury, but it appears a previous thumb injury has resurfaced. He dealt with this injury during camp as well and will now miss at least the next 15 days. In a corresponding move, the Blue Jays promoted left-handed pitcher Easton Lucas from Triple-A Buffalo. Earlier in the winter, the Blue Jays signed Scherzer to a one-year contract worth $15.5 million. While Scherzer remains sidelined, fantasy managers should expect Yariel Rodriguez to see opportunities in the rotation.Source: Toronto Blue Jays
4 days agoMilwaukee Brewers first baseman Rhys Hoskins is not in Sunday's lineup when the Brewers conclude their opening series against the New York Yankees. Hoskins started at first base in each of the first two games of the series and went 1-for-6 with one RBI and a 2:2 BB:K. As a result, Jake Bauers will get the nod at first base and face right-hander Marcus Stroman. Bauers has yet to receive a start this series. Across two plate appearances as a pinch-hitter, Bauers has drawn a walk and tallied a double. Fantasy managers should expect Hoskins to return to the starting nine on Monday when they face the Kansas City Royals. Bauers does have streaming appeal in this matchup facing Stroman, who allowed a high 4.31 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP across 154 2/3 innings of work last summer.Source: Milwaukee Brewers
4 days agoPittsburgh Pirates outfielder Oneil Cruz is not in Sunday's lineup when the Pirates conclude a series against the Miami Marlins. Cruz has started in each of the first three games of the series in center field. Across these games, the 26-year-old has gone 2-for-10 with three runs, two RBI, a long ball, four stolen bases, and a 6:2 BB:K. As a result, Jack Suwinski will get the nod in center field and bat fifth. Fantasy managers should expect Cruz to return to the starting nine on Monday evening when the Pirates travel to face the Rays. On Saturday, Suwinski went 1-for-5 with a double and a stolen base during his first start of the campaign and is worth a look in DFS this afternoon facing Miami right-hander Max Meyer, who held a 5.68 ERA across 57 innings last season.Source: MLB.com
