7 months agoFree-agent running back J.K. Dobbins (Achilles) is scheduled to visit with the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The former Baltimore Raven suffered a torn Achilles early in the 2023 campaign, but he was cleared for football activities this week, so he will likely start drawing more interest on the free-agent market. Originally a second-round pick by Baltimore in the 2020 NFL Draft out of Ohio State, Dobbins posted 805 rushing yards and nine scores on just 134 attempts (6.0 YPC) as a rookie, but he missed the entire 2021 campaign with a torn ACL. He averaged 5.7 yards per carry in 2022 and saw his 2023 season end after just eight rushing attempts with an Achilles injury. Given his injury woes early in his career, it's fair to be concerned about his future production. Regardless of his landing spot, he's likely to be eased into action, meaning his fantasy upside is capped early in 2024.Source: Adam Schefter
7 months agoThe Los Angeles Chargers agreed to terms on an undisclosed one-year deal on Friday with former Tennessee Titans free-agent cornerback Kristian Fulton (hamstring), according to sources. Apparently Fulton is healthy now after ending last year on Injured Reserve due to a hamstring injury. Hamstring and groin injuries kept Fulton out of six games with the Titans in 2023. Injuries plagued his four years in Tennessee, as he missed 23 games, and he finished last year without an interception and with only five passes defended. When healthy, the 25-year-old is a willing tackler against the run and has the versatility to play the nickel and outside cornerback spots. If he can stay healthy in 2024, he could put himself in line for a bigger payday in 2025.Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport
7 months agoNew Los Angeles Chargers running back Gus Edwards will have a big role in the offense in his first year with the team, according to The Athletic's Daniel Popper. Head coach Jim Harbaugh, general manager Joe Hortiz and offensive coordinator Greg Roman have all stated their goal of building a reliable running game to help quarterback Justin Herbert. Edwards brings the Bolts a downhill running style, physicality and proven production in Roman's scheme with the Baltimore Ravens. However, it feels like LA will add at least one more piece at RB this offseason, either in free agency or the upcoming NFL draft. The 28-year-old had 13 rushing touchdowns and 810 rushing yards on a career-high 198 attempts in 2023 in Baltimore, but he also had a career-low 4.1 yards per carry and is certainly going to regress in the TD department in his first year with the Chargers.Source: The Athletic - Daniel Popper
7 months agoVeteran free-agent center Bradley Bozeman is signing a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Chargers, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport. The former National Champion at Alabama was a sixth-round pick by the Baltimore Ravens in 2018 and has 96 games (77 starts) of NFL experience under his belt with Baltimore and the Carolina Panthers. All-Pro center Corey Linsley was placed on the reserve/non-football illness list with a non-emergent heart-related issue last September and is likely to retire, meaning Bozeman has a path to the starting job in 2024. However, he struggled mightily to protect Bryce Young last season in Carolina, so L.A. might look to find a different starter at center in next month's NFL Draft.Source: Ian Rapoport
7 months agoThe Los Angeles Chargers and free-agent veteran linebacker Denzel Perryman agreed to a one-year, $3 million deal on Sunday, according to a source. Perryman was the Chargers' second-round pick in 2015 out of Miami of Florida and was with the team in San Diego and LA from 2015-2020. In his six seasons with the Bolts to begin his NFL career, the 31-year-old had 250 solo tackles, five sacks, 26 tackles for loss, eight QB hits three interceptions, six passes defended, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in 69 games (51 starts). His best season came in 2021 with the Las Vegas Raiders, though, when he had a career-high 154 combined tackles in 15 starts to earn his first Pro Bowl nod. Perryman hasn't been as good the last two years with the Raiders and Houston Texans, although he'll be providing a veteran presence for the Chargers after Eric Kendricks moved on in free agency.Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler
7 months agoFree-agent linebacker Denzel Perryman is eyeing a potential return to the Los Angeles Chargers, the team that drafted him in the second round in 2015 out of Miami of Florida. The two sides have been talking about a reunion after Perryman spent the first six years of his NFL career playing for the Bolts. He was a Pro Bowler for the first time in 2021 with the Las Vegas Raiders and spent the 2023 campaign recording 76 tackles (45 solo), half a sack and six tackles for loss in 12 regular season games (11 starts) for the Houston Texans. The 31-year-old veteran was suspended for two games due to illegal hits. While Perryman isn't really much of an option in IDP fantasy leagues at this stage of his career, he would be a nice linebacker addition for a Chargers team that lost Pro Bowler Eric Kendricks in free agency this offseason.Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler
7 months agoThe Los Angeles Chargers signed free-agent defensive tackle Poona Ford to an undisclosed one-year deal this week, according to league sources. Ford will have an excellent chance for playing time with the Chargers in 2024 and will have a chance to hit the market again next offseason as an ascending player. Ford entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2018 out of Texas and spent the first five years of his NFL career playing for the Seattle Seahawks before playing in eight games with the Buffalo Bills last season. The 28-year-old had nine tackles (five solo) and a sack in his eight games with Buffalo in 2023 and has 190 tackles (109 solo), 8.5 sacks, 29 tackles for loss, 30 QB hits, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in 84 career games (64 starts) over his six NFL seasons.Source: KPRC 2 Sports - Aaron Wilson

7 months agoThe Los Angeles Chargers are re-signing quarterback Easton Stick, according to NFL insider Mike Garafolo. The former fifth-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft out of North Dakota State played in five games last year after Justin Herbert (finger) went on Injured Reserve with a broken finger. In those games, Stick posted 1,129 passing yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. He reportedly drew interest from multiple teams on the open market, but he landed back with L.A. under new head coach Jim Harbaugh. Even if Herbert goes down this season for any length of time, Stick will have limited fantasy upside following the team's release of Mike Williams and trade of Keenan Allen to the Bears.Source: Mike Garafolo

7 months agoThe Los Angeles Chargers have agreed to terms on a deal with defensive tackle Poona Ford on Thursday. At the moment, Ford's salary is unknown, but it's being reported that it's a one-year deal. The 28-year-old is looking for a bounce back season after posting a dud during his first season with the Buffalo Bills in 2023. Before that, Ford was a solid contributor during his time with the Seattle Seahawks. On paper, this doesn't seem like a huge move, but it could end up being a steal for the Chargers if they can get Ford back on track.Source: Aaron Wilson
7 months agoLos Angeles Chargers Pro Bowl defensive end Joey Bosa (foot) has restructured his contract to remain with the team, according to sources. Both Bosa and All-Pro edge rusher Khalil Mack restructured their deals this offseason in order to stay together for at least one more season. The 28-year-old Bosa was scheduled to make $22 million in 2024 and $25.36 million next year. While Bosa is one of the best pure pass-rushers in the NFL, staying healthy has made him a disappointment for fantasy managers that have invested in the defensive lineman in IDP formats. The former third overall pick by the Chargers in 2016 out of Ohio State missed the last seven games in 2023 due to a foot injury and has only played 14 games in the last two years due to injury. If he can stay healthy for a full season, both he and Mack could do some serious damage on opposing quarterbacks.Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter
7 months agoFree-agent tight end Hayden Hurst (concussion) is visiting the Los Angeles Chargers with the intention to sign with the team, according to a source. Hurst was recently released by the Carolina Panthers. The 30-year-old veteran signed a three-year, $21.75 million deal with the Panthers last offseason but missed the final eight games last year due to a serious post-traumatic amnesia concussion. There were questions as to whether Hurst would even continue his career, but he's apparently recovered and plans to continue playing in 2024. Veteran Gerald Everett is no longer in LA, but they still have Donald Parham Jr. and recently signed Will Dissly to the TE room, so Hurst would be battling for playing time with those two if he were to sign with the Chargers. Hurst, a former first-rounder (25th overall) in 2018, caught just 18 passes for 184 yards and one touchdown in Carolina last year.Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler
7 months agoEight-time Pro Bowl defensive end and former NFL Defensive Player of the Year Khalil Mack will stay with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2024 and free up salary cap space for the team by agreeing to restructure his deal, according to sources. That wasn't the case for receiver Mike Williams, who was released on Wednesday. The 33-year-old Mack, the former fifth overall pick in 2014 by the Las Vegas Raiders out of Buffalo, had a career-high 17 sacks in 17 games for the Bolts in his second year with the team, adding 74 tackles (57 solo), 21 tackles for loss 22 QB hits, 10 passes defended and five forced fumbles as LA's most consistent pass-rusher. While fantasy managers in IDP leagues shouldn't expect a repeat in 2024, Mack showed last year that he can still be a disruptive pass-rushing force after previously not reaching double-digit sacks since 2018.Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter
7 months agoVeteran wide receiver Mike Williams (knee) is being released by the Los Angeles Chargers after seven seasons with the organization, as reported by NFL insider Ian Rapoport. The move clears $20 million in cap space for L.A. Originally the No. 7 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Chargers, Williams has racked up 309 receptions for 4,806 yards and 31 touchdowns in 88 games. He's flashed plenty of upside in his career, but injuries have been an issue. The 29-year-old has not played a full season since 2018 and was limited to just three games last year before suffering a torn ACL. Either way, there should be plenty of interest from other teams for the contested catch specialist given the premium that is placed on wide receivers in today's game.Source: Ian Rapoport
