9 months agoThe Arizona Cardinals signed former Seattle Seahawks running back DeeJay Dallas to a three-year deal worth $8.25 million on Tuesday with upside for the deal to be worth $10.5 million, according to a source. Dallas was taken by Seattle in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL draft out of the University of Miami in Florida and he ran for 468 yards and four touchdowns on 112 rushing attempts in his four years with the team. The 25-year-old also added 61 catches for 396 yards and another score in 61 games (two starts). He will remain in the NFC West and is currently listed as the team's No. 3 RB on the depth chart behind James Conner and Emari Demercado. Dallas will likely make his biggest impact as a return man on special teams, leaving him no fantasy appeal in most setups.Source: The 33rd Team - Ari Meirov
9 months agoThe Arizona Cardinals agreed to terms with free-agent cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting on an undisclosed deal on Monday, according to a source. The former second-round pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will now head to the desert to try and fortify a struggling defense after spending one year with the Tennessee Titans. Last year with Tennessee, Murphy-Bunting had 57 tackles (42 solo), two interceptions, eight passes defensed, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in 14 starts. The Cardinals added to all levels of their defense on Monday as they look to bolster a defense that was routinely carved up by opposing quarterbacks last year. The 26-year-old Murphy-Bunting should be expected to start across from Garrett Williams in Arizona's secondary in 2024, but he won't really be on the IDP radar.Source: NFL Network - Mike Garofolo
9 months agoFormer New England Patriots linebacker Mack Wilson agreed to terms with the Arizona Cardinals on Monday on a three-year, $12.75 million deal worth up to $15 million, according to a source. The Cardinals have been busy adding to their defense in free agency on Monday, also adding defensive tackles Justin Jones and Bilal Nichols. The 26-year-old Wilson was formerly a fifth-round pick by the Cleveland Browns in 2019 out of Alabama. After spending the first three years of his career with the Browns, he recorded 39 solo tackles, five sacks, six tackles for loss, six QB hits, four passes defensed and three forced fumbles in 34 games (four starts) for the Patriots the last two seasons combined. While Wilson will give Arizona more linebacking depth, he can be avoided for IDP fantasy purposes.Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport
9 months agoFormer Las Vegas Raiders free-agent defensive tackle Bilal Nichols reached an agreement on Monday on a three-year, $21 million deal that includes $14.4 million guaranteed with the Arizona Cardinals, according to a source. The Cardinals also added defensive tackle Justin Jones in free agency on Monday, so the addition of both interior linemen will really shore up a weak spot in the middle of the defensive line for the Cardinals. The 27-year-old Nichols spent the first four years of his NFL career with the Chicago Bears before racking up 41 solo tackles, three sacks, eight tackles for loss, 13 QB hits and a fumble recovery for a touchdown in the last two seasons with the Raiders. Nichols can be ignored in IDP fantasy leagues, but he'll no doubt be a boost to Arizona's interior defensive line next season.Source: ESPN - Adam Schefter
9 months agoFree-agent defensive tackle Justin Jones agreed to terms with the Arizona Cardinals on Monday on a three-year, $30.1 million deal with $19.75 million guaranteed, according to a source. Jones, a former third-round pick by the Los Angeles Chargers in 2018 out of North Carolina State, just had the best two seasons of his career with the Chicago Bears in 2022-23 after playing his first four seasons in LA. The 27-year-old finished the 2023 campaign with 49 tackles (29 solo), a career-high 4.5 sacks, 10 tackles for loss, 17 QB hits and four passes defensed in 17 starts. Jones earned more playing time in Chicago and should become an integral part of Arizona's interior defensive line moving forward, although he's not on the IDP fantasy radar.Source: FOX Sports - Peter Schrager
9 months agoDefensive end L.J. Collier (biceps) is re-signing with the Arizona Cardinals on a one-year deal, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapaport. The former Seattle Seahawks first-round pick impressed in training camp last year, but he suffered a biceps injury that ended his season after just one game with the Cardinals. The 28-year-old has compiled 42 tackles and three sacks through his first 46 NFL games. He's unlikely to ever live up to his draft capital, but he'll get another shot at becoming a solid starter or depth option in 2024.Source: Ian Rapoport
9 months agoThe Arizona Cardinals tendered exclusive rights free-agent wide receiver Greg Dortch on Thursday. Dortch has flown under the radar in recent seasons but has produced quality numbers for the Cardinals when pushed into the starting lineup due to injuries in front of him. The 25-year-old has a chance at beating out Rondale Moore to be Arizona's starting slot receiver in the 2024 season as the Cardinals look to retool their pass-catching corps. Dortch caught 24 balls for 280 yards and two touchdowns last season and could be a deep sleeper in fantasy if he's able to unseat Moore in the upcoming year.Source: NBCsports.com
9 months agoArizona Cardinals offensive tackle D.J. Humphries (knee) has been an anchor for the team's offensive line since he entered the league in 2016. He's been a team captain and a respected voice in the locker room. However, he just turned 30 years old and he's likely to miss most of the 2024 season while recovering from surgery on his ACL. Humphries will have a $22.9 million salary cap number this year, and cutting him would save the Cardinals around $9 million. General manager Monti Ossenfort has more work to do with the team's offensive line this season, even though they exceeded expectations in 2023. If the team moves on from Humphries, Paris Johnson Jr., who had an impressive rookie season at right tackle, could move over to the left side to protect quarterback Kyler Murray's blind side.Source: The Athletic - Doug Haller
9 months agoArizona Cardinals impending free-agent wide receiver Marquise Brown is set to leave in free agency this offseason, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. General manager Monti Ossenfort can upgrade the receiver position high in the draft, as the Cardinals have 13 overall picks in 2024. Brown, 26, finished last season on Injured Reserve due to a heel injury and played in 14 games in his second year in the desert. He finished with just 51 receptions on 101 targets for 574 yards and four touchdowns, and it didn't help that quarterback Kyler Murray got a late start to the season while rehabbing from a torn ACL in 2022. The former first-round pick of the Ravens in 2019 out of Oklahoma is an injury risk, but he could be a draft bargain in 2024 if he stays healthy and lands in a good situation.Source: ESPN.com - Jeremy Fowler
9 months agoThe Arizona Cardinals definitely could use more playmakers on offense to help out quarterback Kyler Murray, but The Athletic's Doug Haller thinks defense should be the bigger priority in the upcoming NFL draft. Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. could be available when the Cardinals pick at No. 4 overall, and it would be hard for them to pass him up there. However, they have lacked a lockdown cornerback for years and also need an edge rusher. Above all else, they need an anchor on the defensive line that general manager Monti Ossenfort can build around. If Harrison isn't available early in Round 1, don't be surprised if Arizona addresses their defensive-line needs.Source: The Athletic - Doug Haller
10 months agoThe Arizona Cardinals re-signed wide receiver Dan Chisena to a Reserve/Futures contract for the 2024 season on Tuesday. Chisena spent time on the practice squad and the active 53-man roster for the Cardinals this past season before being released last month. The 26-year-old began last season with the Baltimore Ravens but played in just four games total with the Cardinals and wasn't involved on offense at all. In fact, Chisena has only played on special teams in his four years in the NFL with the Ravens, Cardinals and Minnesota Vikings and will most likely return to the practice squad for the Cardinals in 2024.Source: ESPN.com - Josh Weinfuss
10 months agoDetroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell said that veteran tight end Zach Ertz is in the team's building on Wednesday, but the team is unsure if this is the week to use him. "Right now he just got here, I know he's in shape. I talked to him the other day. He understands we're gonna gauge this and see where we're at," Campbell said. Detroit signed the 33-year-old veteran to their practice squad on Monday to give them more tight end depth for the NFC Championship game this Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers after Brock Wright fractured his forearm in the Divisional Round win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Before being waived by the Arizona Cardinals in November, Ertz caught 27 passes for 187 yards and a touchdown in seven games. Even if he were active this weekend, Ertz wouldn't be a realistic target for those playing DFS.Source: ESPN.com - Eric Woodyard
10 months agoThree-time Pro Bowl tight end Zach Ertz is signing with the Detroit Lions on Monday, according to sources. Ertz will start out on the team's practice squad, with plans for the team to elevate him to the 53-man active roster for the NFC Championship game on Sunday night against the San Francisco 49ers. The 33-year-old veteran was cut by the Arizona Cardinals in November and went unclaimed on waivers. Ertz will join the Lions after Brock Wright suffered a fractured forearm during the Divisional Round win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. Rookie Sam LaPorta, who led all tight ends in fantasy points during the regular season, will continue to be one of quarterback Jared Goff's favorite targets in the NFC Championship, but Ertz will give the Lions some experience as a backup to LaPorta.Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero
11 months agoCleveland Browns quarterback Jeff Driskel will serve as Joe Flacco's backup for Saturday's wild-card playoff game against the Houston Texans, according to offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt. Driskel gets the backup nod for the playoffs over P.J. Walker despite the fact he didn't join the Browns until November. The 30-year-old got the start in a meaningless Week 18 regular season finale against the Cincinnati Bengals and predictably wasn't very good, going 13-for-26 for 166 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in his first game action of the season. Flacco will return to the starting gig for super wild-card weekend as the Browns look to beat the Texans for the second time in the last four weeks -- they beat the Texans 36-22 back in Week 16 in Houston.Source: NFL Network - Andrew Siciliano
11 months agoIn the final chapter of Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride's breakout season, the second-year tight end showcased his prowess with three receptions on six targets for 34 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 21-20 loss to the Seahawks. McBride's elevated usage, especially after Zach Ertz's injury in Week 7, turned him into quarterback Kyler Murray's go-to target, culminating in 69 receptions, 655 yards, and three touchdowns over the last 10 games. His performance against Seattle was no exception, as he secured the lone touchdown pass from Murray in the game. As fantasy managers look ahead to 2024, McBride's consistent production and chemistry with Murray make him a promising option in the often scarce tight-end landscape.Source: ESPN.COM
