2 months agoLos Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert could have another mediocre performance in a Week 2 matchup against the Carolina Panthers. Herbert led the Chargers to a win over the Raiders in Week 1, but it was mostly the running game and defense that did the work. Herbert put up just 10.4 fantasy points in standard scoring leagues, completing 17 of his 26 pass attempts for 144 yards and a touchdown. The Chargers attempted 26 passes and 27 runs, and it seems likely that a similar pattern will continue, greatly limiting Herbert's fantasy production. He'll likely have some huge games this season if the Chargers find themselves trailing and forced to throw, but it appears the game plan for the Bolts offense will be to run the ball and win the field position battle on defense. Herbert should be a steady, high-floor QB2, but the top-tier upside his talent implies is unlikely to be on display in Week 2.Source: RotoBaller
2 months agoLos Angeles Chargers wide receiver Joshua Palmer (knee) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, according to the team's injury report ahead of a Week 2 matchup against Carolina. Palmer recorded two catches for 15 yards on four targets in Week 1. He has a good matchup in Week 2 if he can suit up, so it is worth tracking his practice participation in the next few days. He was third on the team in targets in the opener behind rookie Ladd McConkey (seven) and Quentin Johnston (five).Source: Los Angeles Chargers
2 months agoLos Angeles Chargers wide receiver Joshua Palmer and Las Vegas Raiders cornerback Jack Jones are not expected to be suspended, as per Tom Pelissero. Palmer and Jones began brawling after a failed LA 2-point conversion with under four minutes to go in the fourth quarter. Both players were ejected and could still potentially be fined by the league, but they seem to have avoided missing time. The Raiders' DB was unavailable to the media after the game, but Palmer was and had a few interesting things to say. "They came and started throwing punches, but we're not going to be punching bags," said the fourth-year wideout. "So we had to defend ourselves." The 24-year-old racked up just four targets in the Chargers' 22-10 win as Jim Harbaugh deployed a run-centric scheme, culminating in LA rushing one more time (27) than they threw it (26). They'll take on the Panthers in Carolina this Sunday.Source: Tom Pelissero
2 months agoLos Angeles Chargers wide receiver Quentin Johnston didn't put together a standout performance in the opening win against the Las Vegas Raiders but established himself in the receiving order. The second-year wideout finished with three receptions for 38 yards on five targets. He had the second-most targets on the team, right after Ladd McConkey who received seven. The Chargers were in the lead for most of the second half while J.K. Dobbins had a huge day on the ground, so the passing game did take a backseat as seen by Justin Herbert's 26 attempts compared to 27 total carries. Johnston seems to be in line for more targets this year as the offense grows under the new coaching regime, but he would be more viable in deeper fantasy leagues.Source: ESPN
2 months agoThe Los Angeles Chargers defense did well in a Week 1 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. They limited the Raiders to just 10 points while recording one interception, two fumble recoveries, and four sacks. That was good for 15 fantasy points in standard scoring leagues. The Chargers looked strong on defense, with Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack wreaking havoc in the Raiders backfield all afternoon long. This defensive unit hasn't gotten much buzz, but a strong performance here plus a fairly good schedule coming up could make them a sneaky good fantasy pick going forward.Source: ESPN.com
2 months agoLos Angeles Chargers kicker Cameron Dicker attempted three field goals and one extra point in a Week 1 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. He made all four of his kicks, scoring 10 of the Chargers 22 points. Dicker started off the season just as he left off the last one: very consistent and reliable. He was a top-10 kicker in fantasy last season and should be right up there again this year.Source: ESPN.com
2 months agoLos Angeles Chargers wide receiver Joshua Palmer didn't see much involvement in a Week 1 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. His biggest involvement was in a fourth quarter scrum that ended up with one player from each team being ejected. It was Palmer for the Chargers and Jack Jones for the Raiders. Before the ejections, Palmer had been targeted four times, making two catches for 15 yards. He was out-gained and out-targeted by Quentin Johnston and Ladd McConkey. Palmer will have bigger games than this one, but the Chargers are likely to spread the ball around quite a bit this season and probably won't have a true WR1.Source: ESPN.com
2 months agoLos Angeles Chargers rookie wide receiver Ladd McConkey had an impressive debut in a Week 1 Chargers win. He was targeted seven times, making five catches for 39 yards, leading the teams in all of those categories. He also scored his first NFL touchdown, the only passing touchdown of the game for the Bolts. His score came on a 10-yard pass from Justin Herbert in the fourth quarter. McConkey might not lead the team in receiving every week, but he'll clearly have a key role in the passing game and could develop WR2 value sooner than later.Source: ESPN.com
2 months agoLos Angeles Chargers running back J.K. Dobbins had a huge game in his Week 1 Chargers debut. Dobbins ran the ball 10 times, gaining 135 yards and scoring a touchdown. He was targeted three times in the passing game, catching all three for four yards. Dobbins scored on a 12-yard run at the beginning of the fourth quarter and also put up a 61-yard run to help ice the game. He was a force out of the backfield in this one and vastly outperformed Gus Edwards. Week 2 should be another strong performance for the Chargers offense, as they face the Carolina Panthers. Dobbins has his fantasy arrow pointing straight up after this game.Source: ESPN.com
2 months agoLos Angeles Chargers running back Gus Edwards couldn't find too much room to run in a Week 1 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders. Edwards ran the ball 11 times, gaining 26 yards. He caught his only target for a two yard gain. Edwards led the team in carries, but saw fellow running back J.K. Dobbins pick up 135 yards on 10 carries. Edwards will always have a role in this backfield, but if Dobbins stays healthy, Edwards could be in much more of a support role than expected.Source: ESPN.com
2 months agoLos Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert led the Chargers to a Week 1 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. Herbert attempted 26 passes, completing 17 of them for 144 yards and a touchdown. He took one sack and added six yards on the ground on four carries. It was an efficient game for Herbert, who saw the Chargers running game and defense thrive while he didn't have to do too much. He did miss some throws and looked like he was maybe a little behind after missing the entire preseason with a foot injury. His touchdown was a 10-yard pass to rookie Ladd McConkey in the fourth quarter. Things should be better for Herbert in Week 2 against the Carolina Panthers.Source: ESPN.com
2 months agoLos Angeles Chargers wide receiver Joshua Palmer was ejected from Sunday's matchup with the Raiders. Both teams were involved in a scuffle during the fourth quarter. However, Palmer and Jack Jones were the players who got the boot. Palmer finished the game by catching two of his four targets for 15 yards. While he'll likely be disciplined, his availability for Week 2 against the Carolina Panthers isn't expected to be a concern for many fantasy managers.Source: Paul Gutierrez
2 months agoLos Angeles Chargers running back Kimani Vidal and wide receiver Brenden Rice have officially been ruled inactive on Sunday. Vidal has been making strides to make his way onto the roster and was thought to be in the mix to get meaningful snaps along with Gus Edwards and J.K. Dobbins. Hassan Haskins will be the one to move into the third-string role in the backfield. In terms of Brenden Rice, he was also expected to get some snaps as the fourth wideout but will miss the season opener. Quentin Johnston, Joshua Palmer, and Ladd McConkey will see the bulk of the opportunities in the receiving corps. Vidal and Rice's statuses will be something to monitor heading into Week 2, but they're more viable as stashes in dynasty formats right now.Source: Daniel Popper
3 months agoLos Angeles Chargers wide receiver DJ Chark (hip) has been placed on the injured reserve on Saturday. This means Chark will now miss at least the first four weeks of the regular season. He continues battling a hip issue that looks like it's going to need more time to heal. His absence should mean more targets for Joshua Palmer, Quentin Johnston, and rookie Ladd McConkey to open the season. Out of the three, Palmer probably has the most streaming appeal, but Johnson and McConkey should get chances as well. Chark isn't someone who needs to be stashed in most fantasy formats.Source: Tom Pelissero
3 months agoLos Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert (foot) is off the injury report and cleared to play in Sunday's opener against the Las Vegas Raiders. Despite being listed on the injury report earlier this week due to a foot issue, Herbert has recovered and is set for action. He mentioned that he's not using any special footwear or insoles for support and that no specific play or moment triggered the injury. With a revamped offense featuring new starters at wide receiver, tight end, and running back, Herbert's leadership will be crucial this season. Although he should be at close to full strength, the Chargers' new emphasis on the running game and the absence of DJ Chark make it wise to consider other options for starting quarterback this week. In Chark's absence, the team will rely on wide receivers Joshua Palmer, Quentin Johnston, and Ladd McConkey.Source: Tom Pelissero @TomPelissero
