4 months agoZach Johnson does not have a top-10 finish in 2024. However, the American golfer has four top-25 results in 15 PGA events. Johnson has made the weekend in six of his past eight appearances. That includes three efforts inside the top 30. Johnson ranks 22nd in strokes-gained putting (0.422). His putts per round improve on Saturday and Sunday closer to 28 (28.14 - 48th) on Sundays. Johnson is seventh in terms of putts from 25-plus feet. Because his average drives are 283.2 yards, the golfer tends to wind up with longer putts. Maybe the shorter par-70 (7,121 yards) will raise his fortunes.Source: PGATour.com
4 months agoThorbjorn Olesen is coming off an impressive top-15 finish at the Olympics last week in Paris. The Danish golfer has made the cut in six of his last seven tournaments (Olympics had no cut). Expected rainy weather will slow the greens down. Olesen is no stranger to inclement conditions, though, as evidenced by The Open Championship. The key will be his putter, which ranks 35th in strokes gained (0.322). He only averages 26.89 putts per final round, and that is sixth on tour. If a few putts drop early and Olesen avoids a third-round hiccup, the Dane has potential from a DFS perspective.Source: PGATour.com
4 months agoChez Reavie ranks 157th in the FedEx standings with 161 points. The American golfer, now 42, has struggled to make cuts at higher caliber tournaments. Most recently, at the 3M Open, Reavie barely managed to stay under par after 36 holes. Rain and breezy conditions are expected for the first two days of the Wyndham Championship. The same problems occurred at the John Deere and Rocket Mortgage Classics. Reavie hits 286 off the tee and ranks 155th in strokes gained to putting at -0.408. The conditions might keep scores down which could help Reavie.Source: PGATour.com
4 months agoThomas Detry will be playing competitive golf at Le Golf National for the sixth time in his career, having made four cuts in five appearances on the DP World Tour, including one top-10 finish in 2019. The Belgium native is making his second Olympic appearance this week, as he did represent his country in Tokyo in 2020. Detry participated in just two majors this year, but he made strong showings in both, with a T4 finish at the PGA Championship followed by a T14 finish at the U.S. Open. When his game comes together, the 31-year-old can score in a hurry, which benefits him at what should be a scorer's track, considering the Paris course needs to hold up for back-to-back events in a two-week span. Detry's price seems inflated at $8,300 on DraftKings, but above average form and course history are in his favor this week.Source: PGA Tour
4 months agoChristiaan Bezuidenhout has been quiet on the PGA Tour this season, but that surely won't stop him from enjoying his time in Paris, representing his country and trying to win a medal before achieving his first PGA Tour victory. The South African placed Le Golf National just once back in 2018, missing the cut due to poor tee-to-green numbers on the DP World Tour. C-Bez really improved his putting in 2024, consistently gaining strokes on the field with his flat stick prior to withdrawing at the Genesis Scottish Open with an undisclosed injury a few weeks ago. The 30-year-old did manage to play at The Open a week later, and though he missed the cut, it was on the number, signifying that he should be healthy for this event. Bezuidenhout is $7,300 on DraftKings for fantasy managers looking for a low-owned player who might be able to put his game together at the right time and make a surprise appearance on the podium.Source: PGA Tour
4 months agoShane Lowry has quietly had a stellar 2024 when it comes to form, as he's collected six top-10 finishes to go along with his lone victory alongside Rory McIlroy in New Orleans. The Irishman has also placed T6, T19, and solo sixth in his last three majors, which might be the most impressive stat yet. Around-the-green game has been the only hiccup in Lowry's game of late, and he can pair his strong form with some course recognition, considering he's played this track at least six times combined between the DP World Tour and the Ryder Cup, though his last appearance was 2018. The 37-year-old will make his second Olympic appearance this week, looking to bring a gold home for his country to make up for a rough weekend in Scotland a few weeks ago.Source: PGA Tour
4 months agoRory McIlroy let plenty of fantasy managers down two weeks ago at The Open Championship. The OWGR No. 3 carried over 25% ownership in most DraftKings contest, but he missed the cut in ugly fashion while also losing strokes ball-striking in both of his rounds. But it would be wise to forgive the Northern Ireland star for his poor showing at Troon, as his form prior to that event was among the best in the world. After winning the Zurich Classic with his Irish teammate Shane Lowry, McIlroy notched a victory the following week at the Wells Fargo Championship before rattling five additional finishes inside of the top-15, including his solo second place finish at the U.S. Open. He had a solid performance on this course during his European team's Ryder Cup victory in 2018, and he mentioned an Olympic gold medal could be his biggest achievement in the last 10 years in interviews this week. It would come as no surprise for the golf betting fandom to see McIlroy standing at the top of the podium on Sunday.Source: PGA Tour
4 months agoTommy Fleetwood will likely be a popular option this week, but fantasy managers may want to consider taking a closer look at his potential range of outcomes. The 33-year-old Brit is a model of consistency and has a high floor, but his upside heading to Paris should be a concern. Fleetwood has failed to crack the top-10 since his T3 showing at the Masters back in April, a stretch of golf including nine events with a missed cut in his last outing two weeks ago at The Open Championship. He did perform well as a part of the European Ryder Cup team's victory at this course in 2018, but he hasn't played here since that time. Fleetwood also finished in 16th place in his only other Olympic appearance in 2021, but that is not the type of upside that will pay off in a 60-man field and with the ninth-highest salary on DraftKings. Fantasy managers should strongly consider pivoting to higher-upside options around his $9,500 price tag.Source: PGA Tour
4 months agoAlex Noren is having a bit of an up-and-down Summer, but fantasy managers should embrace his volatility at Le Golf National this week. The 42-year-old Swede has racked up six top-25 finishes and three missed cuts in his nine events dating back to May, including a third-place result at The CJ Cup and an impressive T13 in difficult conditions at The Open Championship in his most recent start. Noren also has arguably the best course history at Le Golf National, as he won the Open de France here in 2018 after two top-10 finishes in 2016 and 2017, and he also earned two points for the victorious European Ryder Cup here later in 2018. Sweden's Ludvig Aberg may be the up-and-coming star garnering the most attention, but fantasy managers should not sleep on Noren's chances of earning a spot on the podium come Sunday.Source: PGA Tour
4 months agoDepending on your affinity for LIV Golf, Joaquin Niemann is arguably enjoying the best stretch of golf in his young career heading into the Olympics. Since the end of the 2023 LIV season, the 25-year-old Chilean star has appeared in 17 events, picking up three outright victories to go along with ten additional top-10 results, including his T2 finish at LIV Golf United Kingdom last week. And while he has not played at Le Golf National before, he could be in line for a solid showing as he ranks 13th in greens-in-regulation percentage and third in birdie-or-better percentage over the last 24 rounds. Niemann will be looking to improve upon his 10th-place finish at his first and only Olympics in 2021, and fantasy managers would be wise to have some exposure to him in this year's rendition.Source: PGA Tour
4 months agoFollowing an impressive T5 showing at the Memorial Tournament back in early June, Matt Fitzpatrick rattled off four-straight disappointing performances. The 29-year-old Brit has lost strokes ball-striking in all of those starts, while posting middling finishes of T64, T36, T39 and a T50 at The Open Championship two weeks ago. And while he appears to be motivated this week, mentioning in interviews that he would rank an Olympic gold medal just under a Major victory, he may have a tough time navigating the test awaiting at Le Golf National. While Fitzpatrick does rank eighth in driving accuracy and 12th in putting over the last 24 rounds, he sits outside of the top-20 in weighted approach play, greens-in-regulation percentage, birdie-or-better percentage, and bogey avoidance, all of which could spell disaster for the 15th-most expensive golfer on the DraftKings slate. Fantasy managers may want to hold off on rostering Fitzpatrick until they see a return to the elite form he is capable of displaying.Source: PGA Tour

4 months agoMin Woo Lee is an electric golfer and always attracts the attention of fantasy managers on any given week, but he is likely to be on the outside looking in at Le Golf National this week. Aside from two PGA birdie-fests in the 2024 calendar year in the Cognizant Classic and the Rocket Mortgage Classic, the 26-year-old Aussie has failed to crack the top-25 in his 13 other starts in the 2024 calendar year. The 18th-most expensive golfer on DraftKings also ranks outside of the top-20 in several key statistical categories over the last 24 rounds this week, including good drive percentage, driving accuracy, weighted approach play, and bogey avoidance. Look no further for validation of his poor course fit than his only start here in the 2023 Open de France, where the OWGR No. 36 lost close to three and a half strokes ball-striking en route to a T64 finish in a watered-down DP World Tour event. Fantasy managers would be better off spending their money on Lee's older sister, Minjee, at the 2024 Paris Olympics.Source: PGA Tour
4 months agoGuido Migliozzi's recent performance at The Open Championship was a significant improvement, as he finished T31, rebounding from missing the cut at the Genesis Scottish Open the week before. Before his setback at the Genesis Scottish Open, Migliozzi showed consistent form, making the cut in five straight events and achieving a top-10 finish, a top-five finish, and a victory. Notably, Migliozzi has demonstrated strong approach play, gaining strokes in six of his last seven tournaments. Given his impressive performance at The Open Championship and his recent form, Migliozzi is a compelling option for DFS lineups this week.Source: Data Golf
4 months agoThorbjorn Olesen's recent performance at The Open Championship saw him finish T43, marking his ninth cut made in the last 11 appearances. This is a significant improvement from earlier this year when he missed three consecutive cuts in March. Notably, over the past 12 months, Olesen has a greens in regulation percentage in the ninth percentile on approach shots of 150-200 yards in the fairway. While Olesen could be a valuable addition to DFS lineups this week, it should be noted that including him comes with some risk.Source: Data Golf
