3 days agoPhiladelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert (hamstring) was not seen at Wednesday's practice according to Jeff McLane of the Inquirer. The 29-year-old has been sidelined since suffering a hamstring injury in the opening quarter of their Week 6 game against the Cleveland Browns. If Goedert is unable to return to practice he could be in danger of missing his third-straight game. While Goedert has been sidelined, No.2 tight end Grant Calcaterra has taken the lead and enjoyed a productive game last weekend as he brought in all three of his targets for 58 yards. Calcaterra should be viewed as a high-end TE2 this weekend if he gets the start facing the Jaguars who have allowed the 23rd-most PPR points to opposing tight ends this season.Source: Jeff McLane
3 days agoNew Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr (oblique) was on a pitch count during Wednesday's practice but is still expected to start on Sunday according to Matthew Paras of The Times-Picayune. Carr has been sidelined since suffering the oblique injury in their Week 5 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. In his absence, the Saints turned to rookie Spencer Rattler who averaged 190.3 passing yards and per game and was pulled in his most recent start. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor Carr's status throughout the week. If he is able to return to action, he should be viewed as a QB2 with upside facing the Carolina Panthers who have allowed the 28th-most points to opposing QBs this season.Source: Matthew Paras
3 days agoCalgary Flames left wing Samuel Honzek (upper body) was activated from Injured Reserve on Wednesday. It looks like the young winger is ready to rejoin the lineup versus Utah. He has been out for five games with an upper-body injury. Honzek saw usage on the first line at the start of the campaign, but he has yet to score any points in four appearances. The 21-year-old is projected to rejoin the lineup as a member of the third line. It's a lesser role for Honzek, but his new linemates, Mikael Backlund and Blake Coleman, have also proven to be productive. The two have combined for nine points this season.Source: Calgary Flames
3 days agoSeattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf (knee) will not practice on Wednesday according to Curtis Crabtree of FOX13 Seattle. However, Crabtree noted that the team remains optimistic he will practice tomorrow and play this weekend. Metcalf sustained this knee injury during their Week 7 tilt against the Atlanta Falcons. Metcalf was unable to play last weekend. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status throughout the week in case he faces a setback. If Metcalf can suit up this weekend, he should be viewed as a high-end WR2, facing the Los Angeles Rams who have allowed the 11th-fewest PPR points to opposing wideouts this season.Source: Curtis Crabtree
3 days agoUtah Hockey Club defenseman Michael Kesselring (illness) will play against Calgary on Wednesday. He was a question mark for the clash after missing Tuesday's practice due to an illness. Kesselring has been a two-way force for Utah on the blue line, averaging 20:27 of ice time. His role has grown in recent games due to Sean Durzi's (shoulder) absence. Newly acquired Olli Maatta will make his debut in defense for Utah on Wednesday, meaning Robert Bortuzzo will have to settle for a seat in the press box.Source: Cole Bagley
3 days agoDetroit Red Wings Vladimir Tarasenko (illness) is considered a game-time decision for Wednesday's tilt against Winnipeg. Tarasenko is battling a flu bug and didn't skate on Wednesday morning. Nine games into the season, Tarasenko has yet to hit top gear, picking up one goal and two assists. Michael Rasmussen is expected to step into a third-line role if Tarasenko can't play on Wednesday. The team has recalled Austin Watson from the AHL on an emergency basis, although Red Wings head coach Derek Lalonde has also suggested that he might use seven defensemen against the Jets.Source: Ansar Khan
3 days agoColorado Avalanche goaltender Kaapo Kahkonen will make his team debut on Wednesday versus Tampa Bay. Kahkonen was picked up off waivers a few weeks back. He's worked himself into game shape on a conditioning stint in the AHL, going 0-2-0 with the Colorado Eagles while posting a 2.57 goals-against average and a .919 save percentage. Alexandar Georgiev, who is off to a horrible 1-4-0 start to the campaign, will dress as Kahkonen's backup on Wednesday. Justus Annunen will sit as a healthy scratch despite riding a four-game winning streak. It's a challenging matchup for Kahkonen against a team that averages 3.78 goals, but a good performance could lead to more playing opportunities for him going forward.Source: Corey Masisak
3 days agoColorado Avalanche left wing Miles Wood will miss the next 7-10 days with an upper-body injury. Wood joins a number of other attacking players on the shelf, meaning defenseman Oliver Kylington will be used as a forward on Wednesday versus Tampa Bay. Nikolai Kovalenko will move to the first line, while Ivan Ivan gets to roll with the second line. The latter is also expected to be part of the top power-play unit. Despite missing some of its best players, Colorado has the third-best power play in the league with a 33.3 percent efficiency. The team faces a struggling 71.9 percent penalty kill on Wednesday.Source: Corey Masisak
3 days agoDetroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff (ankle) is not practicing on Wednesday due to an ankle injury. The veteran said his ankle is sore, but he expects to be fine. Goff posted just 85 passing yards in the Week 8 blowout win over the Tennessee Titans, but he tossed three touchdown passes. The former No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft has at least two touchdowns in each of his last five games and has been one of the best quarterbacks in the league in recent weeks. It would be a surprise if he misses the Week 9 game against the Green Bay Packers, but fantasy managers of Goff and the Detroit pass-catchers should monitor his status. Assuming Goff is good to go, he'll face a tough matchup against a Green Bay defense that has surrendered the 11th-fewest fantasy points per game to QBs. If he's at risk of being out, second-year quarterback Hendon Hooker would draw the start.Source: Jeremy Reisman
3 days agoBaltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson (undisclosed) is not on the practice field during Wednesday's practice session that is open to the media. The two-time NFL MVP finished the Week 8 game against the Cleveland Browns, so it's unclear what is causing his absence. However, the team's official Wednesday injury report that comes out later in the afternoon will bring clarity. Assuming Jackson is good to go for the Week 9 matchup with the Denver Broncos, he will once again have overall QB1 upside in fantasy football. The Broncos have allowed the fourth-fewest fantasy points per game to quarterbacks, but Jackson has proven to have a nuclear fantasy ceiling in any matchup. Jackson is the QB1 so far in 2024, averaging 25.5 fantasy points per game behind 2,099 passing yards, 501 rushing yards, and 19 total touchdowns. Josh Johnson would start for Baltimore if Jackson cannot go.Source: Jamison Hensley
3 days agoColorado Avalanche forward Ross Colton (foot) will be out for 6-8 weeks. He broke his foot while blocking a shot in Monday's 5-2 loss to Chicago. In Colton, the Avalanche will lose their top goal-scorer. Colton has lit the lamp eight times in 10 games this season, adding one assist. Nikolai Kovalenko will replace Colton on the top line in Wednesday's matchup against Tampa Bay. The Russian winger has been limited to four points (one goal, three assists) in 10 appearances. But his productivity has improved in recent outings -- Kovalenko has tallied one goal and two assists in the past three games -- and the move to the first line will be a big boost to his fantasy value.Source: ESPN

3 days agoEdmonton Oilers center Connor McDavid (ankle) is expected to miss 2-3 weeks of action. The three-time MVP was hurt on Monday versus Columbus. As a result of McDavid's injury, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is set to return to a center role, having practiced with Jeff Skinner and Zach Hyman on Wednesday. Leon Draisaitl will skate as the first-line center. He was riding with Viktor Arvidsson and Vasily Podkolzin on Wednesday. The Oilers offense has badly struggled, with the team ranked last in the league with a 2.20 goals-for average. It will be interesting to see if the new-look lines improve the situation.Source: ESPN

3 days agoHouston Texans running back Dameon Pierce (groin) will not be active against the New York Jets on Thursday Night Football due to a groin injury. The former Florida Gator has only played in four games this season due to nagging injuries and is set to miss another contest. With Joe Mixon occupying a workhorse role, Pierce has rushed just 14 times for 98 yards and one touchdown in his third NFL campaign. In Pierce's absence, Dare Ogunbowale is the clear RB2 behind Mixon, but he does not have fantasy appeal with Mixon leading the NFL in touches per game (23.2). Mixon is set to face a tough matchup for RBs in Week 9, but his overall workload keeps him a must-start against any defense.Source: Aaron Wilson

3 days agoThe Dallas Cowboys are activating cornerback DaRon Bland (foot) off of the Injured Reserve list on Wednesday, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz. The 2023 first-team All-Pro and NFL interceptions leader (nine) suffered a foot injury in the preseason that required surgery, so he has not made his 2024 debut. However, Bland's status is still up in the air for Week 9 against the Atlanta Falcons, but the team had to activate him now after opening his 21-day practice window on October 9. Whenever he returns to the lineup, it could provide a major boost to a defense that has surrendered the seventh-most yards per game this season (372.6).Source: Jordan Schultz
3 days agoBuffalo Bills wide receiver Curtis Samuel (pectoral) missed the Week 8 game against the Seattle Seahawks with a pectoral injury and was limited in Wednesday's practice ahead of the Week 9 AFC East matchup with the Miami Dolphins. Samuel was labeled a preseason fantasy football sleeper, but he has caught just 12 of his 18 targets for 92 yards and no touchdowns so far this season. With Khalil Shakir, Dalton Kincaid, and Keon Coleman coming on in recent weeks, there's little hope for Samuel to become a legitimate fantasy factor moving forward. The team also acquired Pro Bowl wideout Amari Cooper ahead of Week 7. Cooper is dealing with a wrist injury and could miss Sunday's game, but either way, Samuel should not be trusted in any starting fantasy football lineups.Source: Joe Buscaglia -- The Athletic
3 days agoBuffalo Bills wide receiver Amari Cooper (wrist) is not practicing on Wednesday due to a wrist injury. The former Cleveland Brown sustained the injury in the Week 8 win over the Seattle Seahawks and could be at risk of missing Week 9 against the Miami Dolphins. In Cooper's first game with the organization, he caught four of his five targets for 66 yards and a touchdown despite playing just 19 snaps. He played 38 snaps last weekend but was limited to one reception for three yards on two targets. The former first-round pick has been known as a boom-or-bust fantasy option throughout his career, but between his injury and working to get comfortable with his new team, it could be a few weeks before he produces a big spike week. The Dolphins have allowed the fewest fantasy points per game to wideouts this season, so even if Cooper suits up, it's tough to trust him in Week 9.Source: Joe Buscaglia -- The Athletic
3 days agoCleveland Browns quarterback Jameis Winston made his first start for the organization in Week 8 following the season-ending Achilles injury suffered by Deshaun Watson (Achilles) in Week 7. Winston, the former No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, completed 27 of his 41 passing attempts for 334 yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions en route to an upset win over the Baltimore Ravens. Head coach Kevin Stefanski said Winston is viewed as the starter for the rest of the year, but the NFL is "day-to-day." Second-year quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson came off the bench for the injured Watson in Week 7 and was somewhat in the running to be the starter in Watson's absence, but unless Winston puts a few disastrous performances together, Thompson-Robinson is likely stuck in the QB2 chair.Source: Scott Petrak

3 days agoToronto Raptors forward Scottie Barnes (eye) will be re-evaluated in three weeks after sustaining a right orbital fracture in Monday's overtime loss to the Denver Nuggets. It's a tough blow for the Raptors, considering the team just had RJ Barrett (shoulder) make his 2024-25 debut. It's also rough for Barnes' fantasy managers, especially since he averaged 19.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, 6.8 assists, and 2.0 steals in his first four games. With Immanuel Quickley (pelvis) still without a return date, Barrett, Gradey Dick, and Jakob Poeltl should do most of the heavy lifting on the offensive end. Fantasy managers can also consider Ochai Agbaji and Davion Mitchell for streaming purposes until Quickley or Barnes are back on the floor.Source: Blake Murphy
3 days agoPer Adam Schefter, the New York Jets have placed kicker Greg Zuerlein (knee) on injured reserve. In response, they've signed kickers Spencer Shrader and Riley Patterson to their practice squad. Zuerlein popped up on the team's report Monday with a knee issue after another poor showing in Sunday's 25-22 loss to the New England Patriots. The 36-year-old missed another two kicks in Week 8 (one field goal, one extra point), and he'll now miss at least the team's next four outings. The long-time LA Ram has failed to connect on six field goal tries this season (9-of-15) and has mainly been unreliable for a reeling Jets squad. With New York set to host the Houston Texans on Thursday Night Football, expect a decision to be made between Shrader and Patterson in short order.Source: Adam Schefter
3 days agoIndianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen reported that quarterback Joe Flacco will be the team's starter moving forward. Indianapolis is going all-in on Flacco, who they believe gives them the "best chance to win right now." Steichen also noted they have not given up on second-year quarterback Anthony Richardson. Evidently, Indy has finally realized what was immediately apparent when Richardson went down with a hip injury in Week 4 -- the veteran QB is far and away the most competent signal-caller on this squad. The 39-year-old will be a massive boon to all Colts' pass-catchers and should help substantiate the offense overall for the remainder of his tenure as the starter. Among the 225 quarterbacks who have dropped back 250-plus times since the year 2000, Richardson ranks 222nd in completion rate (50%).Source: Mike Chappell
3 days agoPer New England Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo, quarterback Drake Maye (concussion) will be a limited participant in Wednesday's practice as he works through the NFL's concussion protocol. Chris Mason -- the team's beat writer -- reported the news. Mayo noted that the rookie will "throw the ball at times" in Wednesday's session as he attempts to get cleared ahead of Sunday's contest. It's fantastic news for the rookie, who could play when New England lines up against the Tennessee Titans on the road in Week 9. Maye still has a few hurdles to clear before that's the case, including being cleared for action by an independent neurologist. Still, it's a positive sign that he'll participate in a limited fashion for the team's first practice of the week. If he can't play, veteran QB Jacoby Brissett will again lead the way against Tennessee.Source: Chris Mason

3 days agoJacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson "feels good" about running back Travis Etienne Jr. (hamstring) returning to action in Week 9, as Mia O'Brien of 1010 XL 92.5 XM reported. The fourth-year back has been plagued by a hamstring ailment over the last few weeks that's forced him to miss the team's previous two games and part of another. While his practice participation ahead of Jacksonville's road tilt against the Philadelphia Eagles will be telling regarding his Sunday status, it appears he has a good shot to suit up for the outing. With teammate Tank Bigsby's success and efficiency in the 25-year-old's stead, this backfield might give fantasy managers headaches over the season's final stretch until one emerges as the preferred option.Source: Mia O'Brien
3 days agoOttawa Senators forward Tim Stutzle tallied two goals and two assists as the team cruised to an easy 8-1 victory over St. Louis on Tuesday. Stutzle scored both of his goals during even-strength play and had his assists on the power play. With his seventh career four-point effort, Stutzle passed Marian Hossa for the most by a Senators player age 24 or younger. The young German star is off to an impressive start to the season, going scoreless in only one game and totaling 14 points (five goals, nine assists) across nine outings. He will carry a five-game point streak into the next matchup against the Rangers.Source: ESPN
3 days agoSeattle Kraken defenseman Brandon Montour crushed it against Montreal on Tuesday night, finishing an 8-2 road win with his first career hat trick and four points. He set a new franchise record for most points scored by a defenseman in a single game. Three of his points, including two goals, came on the power play for Montour, who's only the eighth blue-liner in the past 40 years to score a natural hat trick. Montour hasn't quite found his stride with his new team, but the big performance has provided a nice boost for his stat line. The 30-year-old has scored nine points (four goals, five assists) in 10 games with 33 shots, 11 blocks, and 19 hits.Source: ESPN
3 days agoSeattle Kraken center Chandler Stephenson came to life with four assists in Tuesday's 8-2 demolition job against Montreal. Stephenson sat on only four points for the year and had gone three games without any points before putting on a playmaking clinic. Three of his helpers came on the power play. The 30-year-old now has one goal and seven assists for the season with 10 games played. Stephenson needs to find consistency on the second line. He has bolstered his points tally in only four games this season while struggling during even-strength play, which has resulted in a minus-five rating for him.Source: ESPN
