8 months agoThe Green Bay Packers requested permission to speak with Baltimore Ravens secondary coach Dennard Wilson for their vacant defensive-coordinator job, according to a source. Wilson is also interviewing for the same position with the Tennessee Titans on Tuesday, and the Los Angeles Rams and New York Giants have also spoken with him as well. The 41-year-old just finished his first year with the Ravens after spending the two previous seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. Wilson started his coaching career as a quality-control coach for the Rams in 2012 before being promoted to defensive backs coach in 2015. He also served as the New York Jets' defensive backs coach from 2017-20, adding passing-game coordinator duties in 2019. The Packers are looking for a new defensive coordinator after firing Joe Barry following the 2023 season.Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport
8 months agoFormer Los Angeles Chargers head coach Brandon Staley is interviewing for the Green Bay Packers' vacant defensive-coordinator job on Friday, according to sources. The Packers fired former defensive coordinator Joe Barry earlier this week despite the team advancing to the Divisional Round of the playoffs. Staley was fired by the Chargers late in the 2023 regular season after going 24-24 in two-plus seasons in LA. In Staley's time at the helm, the Chargers' defense was not particularly good, although he did coordinator a strong unit in 2020 with the Los Angeles Rams. With several other defensive-coordinator positions still open around the league, there's a good chance Staley could resurface in 2024 while running a defense.Source: The Athletic - Matt Schneidman
8 months agoGreen Bay Packers defensive coordinator Joe Barry was relieved of his duties running the team's defense on Wednesday despite the team advancing to the Divisional Round of the postseason, according to sources. Barry could still remain with the organization in some capacity, a possibility that is being discussed. Head coach Matt LaFleur will now be on his third defensive coordinator in six seasons when he hires a replacement for Barry, who had one year left on his deal. Barry had been the team's defensive coordinator since he replaced Mike Pettine in 2021. He had been on the hot seat since 2022, and the Packers defense finished 17th in total defense while also climbing into the top 10 in fewest points allowed. Green Bay's run defense was the issue, as they ranked 28th against the run in 2023, down from 26th in 2022 after they finished 11th in 2021.Source: NFL Network - Tom Pelissero
8 months agoGreen Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson has played in just 23 of 34 possible games since being selected by the organization in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, mostly due to lower-body injuries. This season, the speedster was held out of eight games because of lingering hamstring issues. According to Ryan Wood of USA Today, Watson is planning to undergo offseason tests to understand why he's had so many hamstring injuries. On resolving the issue, Watson said "I'm not going to say it's my fault, but it's my body, so I need to take accountability for it." The 24-year-old has flashed big-play ability when healthy, averaging 15.0 yards per reception to start his career. However, his inability to be available has been an issue for him and the Packers' young offense. If he can stay healthy, he has plenty of fantasy football upside in 2024, especially now that Jordan Love looks like a high-end franchise quarterback.Source: Ryan Wood - USA Today
8 months agoGreen Bay Packers tight end Luke Musgrave caught three of four targets for 14 yards during the team's 21-24 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. The rookie actually had fewer targets than backup and fellow rookie Tucker Kraft but ended the night with more receiving yards. It brings an end to a solid rookie campaign from Musgrave. While he missed a six-game stretch at the end of the year due to a kidney laceration, the 23-year-old stepped right back into the starting role when he returned and immediately impacted the team's Wild Card win over the Dallas Cowboys. With so many mouths to feed in Green Bay, Musgrave will be tough to trust in fantasy as the lone option for any manager. However, he will remain a weekly streaming candidate off the waiver wire and carries more value in dynasty formats as a part of one of the best up-and-coming offenses in the league.Source: RotoBaller
8 months agoGreen Bay Packers tight end Tucker Kraft caught three of six targets for nine yards and a touchdown during the team's 21-24 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Starting tight end Luke Musgrave was slightly more productive in the yardage department Saturday night, but Kraft had the score that put the Packers ahead 21-14 in the third quarter. That score ended up being the final one of the night for Green Bay. Kraft did an admirable job filling in for Musgrave over the back half of the regular season and proved that he will still demand some sort of target share when both are healthy. However, unless something were to happen to Musgrave, Kraft would be nothing more than a waiver wire option in daily fantasy formats and a bench stash in dynasty leagues in 2024.Source: ESPN
8 months agoGreen Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson caught one of his two targets for an 11-yard gain during the team's 21-24 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. The second-year receiver was an afterthought in the Packer's passing attack for the second week in a row and nabbed just one reception. It brings an end to a disappointing season riddled with injury for Watson, who had a good three-game stretch from Weeks 11-13 but did little else all year. Fantasy managers are going to enter the offseason questioning whether or not Watson is the unquestioned No. 1 wide receiver after a strong campaign from rookie Jayden Reed and the slew of other weapons at the Packers' disposal. The 24-year-old will not cost nearly as much as he did in drafts last year, but his value may fluctuate heading into the 2024 regular season.Source: ESPN
8 months agoGreen Bay Packers wide receiver Bo Melton caught his lone target for a 19-yard touchdown during the team's 21-24 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. The 24-year-old snagged the touchdown in the early third quarter to put the Packers ahead 13-7. Melton came onto the roster over the final month of the regular season with the Packers dealing with wide receiver injuries and made an impact when he went over 100 yards receiving in Week 17 to become the first Green Bay receiver to do so in 2023. Melton then made the active roster permanently and served as a rotational option throughout the playoffs. With so many mouths to feed in Green Bay, Melton is not a player fantasy managers need to keep an eye on in the offseason. His name will pop back up as a waiver wire option if any of the starters go down with an injury.Source: RotoBaller
8 months agoGreen Bay Packers wide receiver Jayden Reed caught all four of his targets for a gain of 35 yards and took his lone carry for a nine-yard gain during the team's 21-24 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. The rookie went without a catch last week but ended the Divisional Round loss tied for the most receptions on the team. Reed was one of the breakout rookie wide receivers for fantasy managers over the back half of the regular season. While he did not do a ton in the postseason, Reed will enter the 2024 regular season as one of the top Packers skill position players to target in fantasy drafts. Romeo Doubs was the most productive Green Bay receiver during the playoffs, and Christian Watson did little as he made his way back from a hamstring injury. All three of these names will likely land as late-round draft selections, with Reed having the most upside.Source: ESPN
8 months agoGreen Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs caught four of six targets for 83 yards during the team's 21-24 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. After an up-and-down regular season, the second-year receiver showed up in the playoffs, gaining 234 yards on 10 receptions and being a favorite target for quarterback Jordan Love. The Packers have a number of impressive rookie wide receivers that showed up this season and plenty of mouths to feed around the entire offense, including 2022 first-round draft selection Christian Watson. Doubs will always face stiff competition for targets, but it speaks volumes that when everyone was healthy during this playoff run, he was one of his quarterback's favorite targets.Source: ESPN

8 months agoGreen Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love completed 21 of 34 passes for 194 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions, adding five carries for three yards during the team's 21-24 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. The 25-year-old kept the pressure on the No. 1 seeded 49ers until the game's final minute, where he tossed a game-ending interception. While Love was not incredible in the box score Saturday night, it does not take away from his fantastic season as a first-year starter. No one gave the Packers a shot to do much of anything this year, and they took one of the top three teams in the league to the limit in the Divisional Round of the playoffs. After finishing as a top-10 fantasy quarterback and a strong end to the regular season, Love will be one of the most interesting quarterbacks to watch in terms of draft value heading into the 2024 regular season.Source: ESPN
8 months agoGreen Bay Packers defensive back Jaire Alexander (shoulder, ankle) is active ahead of Saturday's playoff game against the San Francisco 49ers. Alexander was questionable coming into this contest as he's been banged up lately. He was limited to seven regular season games in 2023. Luckily for Green Bay, Alexander has been cleared to play ahead of this big game. He'll provide a significant boost to this defensive unit as they attempt to slow down the 49ers offense.Source: Bridget Condon
8 months agoGreen Bay Packers running back AJ Dillon (neck, thumb) has been ruled out ahead of Saturday's playoff game against the San Francisco 49ers. Dillon hasn't suited up since Week 17 as he continues to deal with multiple injuries. His absence means that Aaron Jones is going to see the bulk of the carries during this game. Jones has a tough matchup against the 49ers defense, but could be worth a look as a DFS option with the Packers shorthanded.Source: Rob Demovsky
8 months agoThe Green Bay Packers and quarterback Jordan Love are expected to re-engage in contract extension talks during the offseason, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The 25-year-old has drastically exceeded expectations in his first season as the Packers' starter, leading them to the Divisional Round of the playoffs while completing 64.2 percent of his passes for 4,159 yards, 36 total touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. He will presumably increase his asking price as the result of his big year, but Rapoport expects the two sides to reach an agreement anyway. As it currently stands, Love is under contract through 2024.Source: Ian Rapoport
