5 months agoFree-agent wide receiver Zay Jones is signing with the Arizona Cardinals, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport. The 29-year-old went on visits with the Tennessee Titans and Dallas Cowboys this week, but he ultimately landed in a spot where he can compete for targets right away. Jones was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars after they selected LSU wideout Brian Thomas Jr. in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, but there's a real chance his situation is better in Arizona. Rookie Marvin Harrison Jr. is expected to occupy the WR1 role right away, but Jones is almost certainly slated to start in three-wide sets, and he might even beat out Michael Wilson to start in two-wide sets. He and tight end Trey McBride could battle it out to be Kyler Murray's No. 2 option in the passing game. Pencil in Jones as at least a deep league flex option in 2024.Source: Ian Rapoport
6 months agoRookie quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa participated in rookie camp for the Seattle Seahawks last week, and he is accepting an invite to take part in the Arizona Cardinals rookie camp this week. Despite being the all-time passing leader in the Big Ten, Tagovailoa went undrafted and is looking to find a home where he can compete for a roster spot. The younger brother of Tua Tagovailoa posted 11,356 passing yards, 77 passing touchdowns, and 37 interceptions during his college career that included one season at Alabama and four years at Maryland. He'll have an uphill battle to become a starter in the NFL, but a backup role could be attainable for the ʻEwa Beach, Hawaii native.Source: Mike Garafolo
6 months agoThe Arizona Cardinals have chosen not to pick up defensive end Zaven Collins' fifth-year option, according to general manager Monti Ossenfort. With the move, Collins will be in the final year of his rookie deal in 2024 and will become a free agent next March. It's a surprising move after the 24-year-old former 16th overall pick has recorded 166 tackles (103 solo), 5.5 sacks, 18 tackles for loss, 10 QB hits, two interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), 12 passes defended, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in 50 games (39 starts) in his three years in the NFL. Collins isn't exactly on the IDP fantasy radar as a defensive lineman because of his lack of sacks, but he should continue to be a starting edge defender for Arizona in 2024.Source: Arizona Sports - Tyler Drake
6 months agoThe Arizona Cardinals took running back Trey Benson in the third round of this year's NFL draft, and it's unlikely that he will take over lead-back duties from James Conner this year, even though Conner hasn't shown that he's up to bell-cow duties in the NFL. Mainly because of injuries, Conner has posted between 200 and 250 touches in each of the last four seasons with the Cardinals and Pittsburgh Steelers, never playing in more than 15 games. Conner has been a pretty big injury risk for fantasy managers, but when he's been on the field, he's been impressive. The 28-year-old had 5.1 yards per touch in 2023. However, with Benson now in the fold, Arizona's backfield could easily evolve into a platoon situation that turns both Conner and Benson into solid RB2 candidates.Source: The Athletic - KC Joyner
6 months agoThe Cardinals selected University of Illinois tight end Tip Reiman with the No. 82 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. He played four years at Illinois, totaling 420 yards and five touchdowns off 41 catches. While the 22-year-old has plenty of positive attributes, he wasn't as productive at the collegiate level as others in his class. With that said, Reiman will have a chance to carve out playing time in Arizona, a team in a transition phase. However, he'll need to compete for snaps with Trey McBride, one of the league's emerging tight ends.Source: NFL.com
6 months agoThe Arizona Cardinals selected Florida State running back Trey Benson with the 66th overall pick in the NFL Draft. Benson could be the most complete running back in the draft class. He excelled at breaking tackles, setting the single-season FBS record by forcing 0.51 missed tackles per run. The 21-year-old also possesses great breakaway speed with 14 runs of 20 or more yards (ninth in FBS). Last season, Benson ran for 906 yards on the ground and 227 through the air and 15 total scores. He will join veteran James Connor, who could limit his fantasy value early on, but he should be an early second-round pick in dynasty rookie drafts.Source: NFL.com
6 months agoThe Arizona Cardinals selected Missouri defensive end Darius Robinson with the 27th overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft on Thursday night. Robinson was a late bloomer for the Tigers in college and sometimes disappeared from games, but in the end, the pass-rusher was a first-team All-SEC performer as a fifth-year senior in 2023 after recording 8.5 sacks and 14 tackles for loss in 2023. Robinson weighed in at 285 pounds and has long arms and plenty of power to push his way to opposing quarterbacks. He's also serviceable in the run game and will compete for plenty of playing time right away in the desert in 2024 next to Zaven Collins and BJ Ojulari. Robinson is powerful but is going to need to develop his repertoire to have success in the NFL.Source: NFL.com
6 months agoThe Arizona Cardinals selected Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. with the fourth overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft on Thursday night. With no other team trading up with the Cardinals to make it four straight quarterbacks in a row to start this year's draft, the Cardinals will give QB Kyler Murray a big-time new receiving weapon in Harrison. It makes sense after the team lost Marquise Brown this offseason. Harrison is an absolute stud at the position and should immediately be Arizona's best wideout in his rookie year alongside names like Michael Wilson, Greg Dortch and Chris Moore. Harrison was a unanimous two-time All-American and scored 28 total touchdowns the last two years. He's bigger than his father and has incredible body control. Harrison should be fantasy relevant in Year 1 while being peppered with targets by Murray.Source: NFL.com
6 months agoThe Arizona Cardinals are hosting former Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy on a visit on Tuesday. The speedster notably broke the NFL Combine record for the fastest 40-yard-dash (4.21) in February, making him a potential riser ahead of this month's NFL Draft. Arizona holds the No. 4 and No. 27 (via Houston) overall picks, and Worthy could be a potential target with their later selection. The 20-year-old posted 197 receptions for 2,755 yards and 26 touchdowns during his three seasons in college, including 981 yards and 12 scores as a true freshman. His slight frame (165 pounds) could be a concern for some NFL teams, but DeVonta Smith and Tank Dell have excelled in recent seasons, and he remains in the thick of the first-round discussion.Source: Ian Rapoport

7 months agoThe Arizona Cardinals hosted Ohio State star wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. on a top-30 visit on Friday, according to a source. The Cardinals hold the fourth overall pick in this year's NFL draft, and Harrison is widely considered to be at the top of the receiver class in 2024. Arizona is a prime candidate to trade down early in the first round for the second year in a row, but if they stand pat, adding the top receiver in this year's class would be tempting to give quarterback Kyler Murray a top target moving forward. If Harrison were to land in the desert, he'd instantly become the team's No. 1 pass-catcher among a receiving corps that currently includes Michael Wilson, Chris Moore and Greg Dortch. The 21-year-old's fantasy value will depend on where he lands, but most likely he'll be in play in weekly lineups in his rookie campaign.Source: NFL Network - Ian Rapoport
7 months agoAfter meeting with the Chicago Bears on Thursday, Washington wide receiver Rome Odunze's next top-30 visit will be with the Arizona Cardinals, who hold the fourth overall pick in the upcoming NFL draft. However, the Cardinals remain a prime candidate to trade back in the draft. The 21-year-old Odunze is considered a top-three pass-catcher -- along with Ohio State's Marvin Harrison Jr. and LSU's Malik Nabers -- in this year's draft class and is likely to come off the board in the top-10 picks later this month. He already met with the New York Jets, who hold the No. 10 overall pick and the Chicago Bears, who have the No. 1 and No. 9 picks in the first round. Odunze can do it all on the football field. He has elite speed and can also win contested catches deep down the field. Depending on where he lands, he could be a weekly fantasy starter as a rookie.Source: Bleacher Report - Jordan Schultz

7 months agoFree-agent defensive lineman Austin Johnson is visiting with the Arizona Cardinals on Friday after wrapping up a visit with the Buffalo Bills, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The 29-year-old was a 2016 second-round pick by the Tennessee Titans and has also spent time with the New York Giants and Los Angeles Chargers. Through his first 116 NFL games, Johnson has accumulated 241 tackles, eight sacks, two forced fumbles, ten passes defended, and 15.5 run stuffs. He's far from a star at the position, but he will bring depth to wherever he ends up signing.Source: Adam Schefter
7 months agoVeteran free-agent center Evan Brown is signing a one-year, $2.9 million deal with the Arizona Cardinals, according to NFL insider Tom Pelissero. The former undrafted free agent out of the class of 2018 has 57 games (40 starts) of NFL experience and started 16 contests at center for the Seattle Seahawks last season. Brown gave up three sacks in 955 snaps in 2023. He figures to compete with Hjalte Froholdt for the starting center job in quarterback Kyler Murray's offense to begin the 2024 campaign.Source: Tom Pelissero
