Padres Acquire Taylor Rogers, Brent Rooker
3 years agoThe San Diego Padres acquired relief pitcher Taylor Rogers and outfielder Brent Rooker from the Minnesota Twins on Thursday in exchange for starting pitcher Chris Paddack and relief pitcher Emilio Pagan. Rogers, a 31-year-old left-hander, will likely become the new closer in San Diego, which is bad news for anyone that already drafted Robert Suarez. Rogers was a first-time All-Star in 2021, saving nine games while posting a 3.35 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 59 strikeouts in 40 1/3 relief innings. Back in Minnesota, fantasy managers should now expect some sort of closer committee, consisting of Tyler Duffey, Jorge Alcala, Caleb Thielbar and Pagan. Rooker could begin the year at Triple-A El Paso as outfield depth for the Friars.
