Orioles Claim Emmanuel Rivera Off Waivers From Marlins
3 months agoThe Baltimore Orioles claimed infielder Emmanuel Rivera off waivers from the Miami Marlins on Wednesday and designated infielder/outfielder Terrin Vavra for assignment in a corresponding move. Rivera recently lost his spot on Miami's 40-man roster and is now heading to the American League East. Because the 28-year-old is out of minor-league options, he'll report to Baltimore's big-league club and will give the O's some depth at third base with Jordan Westburg (hand) still on the injured list. Don't expect him to be anything more than a bench bat for Baltimore, though, and he could be looking for another team once Westburg returns. The Puerto Rican infielder, formerly a 19th-round pick by the Kansas City Royals in 2015, hit .214/.294/.269 with a homer and 15 RBI in 96 games for the Marlins before getting cut.
