Opportunity May Present Itself For Casey Mittelstadt
7 years agoWith the news of Ryan O’Reilly’s departure from Buffalo, there may be an opportunity for rookie Casey Mittelstadt to crack the lineup on a full-time basis. Drafted eighth overall in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, Mittelstadt has been turning heads with his quick hands and puck control, most recently at the Sabres’ development camp. Mittelstadt could slot in behind Jack Eichel, as the team’s second line center. In six NHL games last season, Mittelstadt totalled five points, including four assists. Should he make the team, the Eden Prairie native will surely be a target in re-draft leagues, and even more so in dynasty leagues. In daily leagues, his price should be reasonable until the sample size at the NHL level grows, so he will be an early bang-for-your-buck play.

Casey Mittelstadt Records Second Consecutive Three-Point Game
5 months agoColorado Avalanche center Casey Mittelstadt served up three assists in Sunday's 5-4 win over Ottawa. He had an assist in each period, making it back-to-back three-point games for himself. Mittelstadt has been very productive on the second line, posting seven goals and 12 points in nine games. However, he's also had a tough time on the defensive side of things, as Mittelstadt carries a minus-four rating for the season. Still, he's become a very useful fantasy asset and could have another big night on Monday when Colorado faces the hapless Blackhawks, who are giving up 3.44 goals per game.

Sabres, Avalanche Swap Casey Mittelstadt, Bowen Byram
1 year agoThe Buffalo Sabres and Colorado Avalanche have made a trade that will send center Casey Middlestadt to the Avs while defenseman Bowen Byram goes to the Sabres. The 25-year-old is in the midst of a career year that has seen him post 14 goals and 47 points across 62 games. He is on pace to surpass the 15 goals and 59 points he recorded last season while his 18:16 of average ice time is by far a career-high, as well. Byram, 22, was taken with the fourth-overall pick of the 2019 draft by the Avalanche but has seen his young career stall due to multiple concussions. He appeared in just 72 games across a two-season span before skating in 55 of Colorado's 63 games this season. He has a healthy eight goals and 20 points on the season but became expendable once the Avs acquired defenseman Sean Walker from the Flyers on Wednesday.

Casey Mittelstadt Back In Practice Wednesday
1 year agoBuffalo Sabres center Casey Mittelstadt (upper body) was back in practice Wednesday after missing Tuesday's session. He reportedly "tweaked" something in practice on Monday. It looks like Mittelstadt will be good to go for Thursday's season opener versus the Rangers. The former top-10 pick made a big breakthrough last term with 59 points (15 goals, 44 assists) in 82 games, and he should enjoy another productive campaign on a Buffalo team that looks full of goals. Jordan Greenway and Zach Benson are projected to be Mittelstadt's partners on the third line Thursday evening.
