4 years agoDetroit Tigers utility man Niko Goodrum led off for the first time this season on Tuesday against lefty J.A. Happ and the Minnesota Twins. He got the start in left field and later shifted over to second base. He went 3-for-5 with a run scored in the game. Goodrum has started three of the Tigers' five games so far this year. Expect him to continue to play at about that same rate throughout the year. His versatility makes him a valuable bench asset for the Tigers. Robbie Grossman is the team's primary leadoff hitter. He and Goodrum are both switch hitters, but Goodrum hits better against lefties, so we may see Goodrum get leadoff opportunities a good amount of the time when a lefty is on the mound.--Andrew Ericksen - RotoBaller
