Nick Ramirez Earns First Career Win
5 years agoDetroit Tigers reliever Nick Ramirez (1-0) threw three perfect innings to pick up his first major league win in Wednesday's 4-2 victory over the Orioles. Ramirez, who replaced starter Ryan Carpenter in the bottom of the sixth, struck out five of the nine hitters he faced and got three others to ground out. He needed just 35 pitches as he threw 25 strikes, with 11 of those being called balls. The outing was the 29-year-old rookie's best performance of the season and marked the first time in five appearances that he did not give up a run. Ramirez, who has gone at least two innings in each of his games, is averaging 9.6 strikeouts per nine innings to go along with a 0.938 WHIP and 2.81 ERA.
