Nick Pivetta Strikes Out 13 In No-Decision
6 years agoDespite the fact that he wouldn’t record a victory on Monday night against the St. Louis Cardinals at Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia Phillies starter Nick Pivetta was sensational. The 25-year-old went more than five innings for the first time in five starts, getting into the eighth inning. In all, he went 7 1/3 innings, surrendering just two runs on four hits and a walk, with both runs coming off solo blasts. Perhaps the most promising aspect of his outing was his 13 strikeouts, a career high for the second-year right-hander from Canada. While he left the game with a two-run lead, the bullpen once again failed to preserve the lead, conceding two runs in the ninth.
