Nick Pivetta Sent Down, Jerad Eickhoff Lands In Rotation
6 years agoThe Philadelphia Phillies optioned starting pitcher Nick Pivetta to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Wednesday to "go down and get his confidence back," according to general manager Matt Klentak. Pivetta allowed seven hits and three runs in five innings in a win over the Mets on Tuesday, but he sports an 8.35 ERA through four starts. Infielder Phil Gosselin was called up in a corresponding move, and he'll serve as infield depth for the time being. Jerad Eickhoff, who tossed four scoreless innings in his lone relief outing this year, will join the rotation in place of Pivetta. He made 24 starts in 2017 with the Phils and had a 4.71 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 8.3 K/9. Consider Eickhoff a matchup-based streamer in deeper leagues for the time being, but he won't be a recommended play this weekend in Colorado.
