Nick Nelson Saddled With The Loss Friday
4 years agoNew York Yankees pitcher Nick Nelson took the loss in Friday's 8-2 defeat at the hands of the Rays. Nelson served as an opener for New York, pitching one inning and allowing two runs on two hits with a pair of walks and strikeouts. Command was an issue for the 25-year-old, as 15 of his 30 pitches went for strikes. Nelson likely won't make too many starts like this, as it was a move meant to preserve the arms in the Yankees' rotation, meaning the former will return to a more standard bullpen role moving forward. After a promising spring, Nelson has taken a step back in the early going, as he owns a 10.80 ERA in five innings of work in 2021.
