Nick Neidert Does Okay In His First Start
4 years agoMiami Marlins rookie starting pitcher Nick Neidert made his first major league start on Thursday. Neidert lasted 4 1/3 innings, allowing one run on three hits while striking out three. The blemish on his line: he walked five. Neidert threw 85 pitches, just 50 for strikes, and was working his way into and out of trouble all afternoon. Without overpowering stuff, Neidert needs to work the edges of the strike zone and he was just missing with a lot of his pitches. He did show some positive signs though, and was able to get ground balls when he needed them. He'll likely get another few turns in the rotation at least, and should be able to improve on this first outing.
