Nestor Cortes Falls Just Shy Of Win In Solid Performance Against Astros
3 years agoNew York Yankees pitcher Nestor Cortes turned in a solid performance in Friday's win over the Houston Astros. Cortes kept the Astros off the scoreboard into the fifth inning, surrendering just two hits and a pair of walks. He struck out two batters and induced an 85.6 MPH average exit velocity against one of the best lineups in the league. Cortes' 4 2/3 innings pitched were the longest he's gone into a game this season, as well as the season-high 74 pitches he tossed. Cortes possesses a strikeout rate north of 30 percent and has been very difficult to barrel up this season. He'll take a clean 1.05 ERA and 0.97 WHIP into the All-Star break, likely earning himself another start out of the rotation in the process. Fantasy managers in DFS formats should keep an eye on Cortes as a possible streamer in the second half.
