Nathan Eovaldi Out For The Rays, Austin Pruitt Called Up
7 years agoTampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi will require surgery to repair "loose bodies" in his elbow. This was terrible news to come down right before the season starts. There is some speculation that he could get away with as little as six to eight weeks before he gets back to pitching. This presents a best-case scenario for a return in mid-June. Too much is unknown at the moment to rely on that, so Eovaldi's value falls off a cliff in seasonal leagues. Austin Pruitt has been called back up to the majors a few days after being sent down to the minors. The leading theory initially was that Pruitt would become the fourth starter for the Rays. However, officially the Rays list their starting pitcher for the third game Saturday and fifth game Monday as TBD. Right-hander Daniel Hudson was also released, leaving one fewer option to speculate as part of the answer. For now, be cautious with the situation.
