Nathan Eovaldi Looking Good So Far In Spring Training
7 years agoTampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi has looked good so far in spring training. In previous occasions, his fastball has been impressive and in this outing, his breaking ball was "electric" and he had a "really good day" overall. He has talent but has been erratic so far in his career. In 2014, he gave up a league-high 223 hits but only walked 43 batters in 199 2/3 innings with a record of 6-14. In 2015, he went 14-3 but his walks increased by six despite throwing 45 1/3 fewer innings. And in a 2016 season where he only pitched 124 2/3 innings, he allowed a career-high 23 home runs (only one fewer than his previous two seasons combined). Early reports going into training camp have him lined up as the Rays likely No. 3 starter. He is best owned in deeper leagues until he gets some good starts out there to show us he is truly back to his full potential. He is off to a good start towards that evaluation.
