Mychal Givens Returns To Orioles
2 years agoThe Baltimore Orioles agreed to a one-year, $5 million deal with free-agent relief pitcher Mychal Givens on Monday, pending a physical, according to sources familiar with the deal. Givens began his major-league career in Baltimore, playing for them from 2015 to 2020. While he probably won't be the Orioles closer in 2023, Givens should have a high-leverage role in the back of their bullpen and should have some fantasy appeal in leagues that count holds. In his eight-year big-league career, the 32-year-old right-hander has a solid 3.40 ERA (3.73 FIP), a 1.19 WHIP, 31 saves and a 28.4 percent strikeout rate in 457 2/3 innings over 419 appearances (one start). In 2022 with the Chicago Cubs and New York Mets, Givens had a 3.38 ERA (3.96 FIP), a 1.32 WHIP, two saves and 71 K's in 61 1/3 innings over 59 outings (one start).
