Mitch Moreland Takes Batting Practice
4 years agoOakland Athletics first baseman Mitch Moreland (hamstring) has missed the last three games due to a sore right hamstring, but he was able to take batting practice before the game on Monday and is a candidate to fill in at first base with Matt Olson (thumb) listed as day-to-day after suffering a thumb contusion when he was hit by a pitch on Monday night. Seth Brown entered the game on Monday in place of Olson, so he's the favorite to get the start on Tuesday in the series finale against the Arizona Diamondbacks and right-hander Zac Gallen. The 35-year-old Moreland has four hits in his first 24 at-bats (.167 batting average) of the 2021 season in eight games. He'll mostly serve as depth behind Olson at first base, but he's also a designated hitter option against right-handers.
