Mike Montgomery Lacks Control Tuesday In Loss
6 years agoChicago Cubs starting pitcher Mike Montgomery struggled with his command Tuesday versus Milwaukee. He would last only four innings where he allowed three (two earned) runs. Montgomery would walk three, hit a batter and throw a wild pitch that allowed a runner to score from third. It was his second straight short outing but unlike the first one, he did not have stretches where he looked in control of the game. He is now 4-5 with a 3.76 this season which includes 14 starts. Despite the struggles, Montgomery could be forced to stay in the rotation unless Tyler Chatwood finds a way to regain enough control to be trusted. The reason for the term "forced" is the reports before the injury that the Cubs would prefer to limit Montgomery's innings down the stretch and turn him more into more of an option out of the bullpen.
