Michael Guldberg, Dane Acker Under-The-Radar Picks For A's
4 years agoThe Oakland Athletics selected Georgia Tech outfielder Michael Guldberg with the 98th overall pick in the third round in the 2020 MLB draft on Thursday. They went on to take Oklahoma pitcher Dane Acker in the fourth round (127th overall) and Washington pitcher Stevie Emanuels in the fifth round (157th overall). Guldberg isn't big at 6-foot, 171 pounds, but he was great in college and hit over .350 each year. There's not a ton of power but his approach at the plate is what stands out. He profiles to be a corner outfielder at the next level. Acker, a righty, isn't flashy but is durable and has above-average command of his stuff deep into games. He also threw a no-hitter against LSU in March. Emanuels, another right-hander, has an ideal frame at 6-foot-5 and his heater jumps out of his hand. He'll need to develop better breaking pitches and improve his command, though, in order to move up the minor league ladder.
