Michael Fulmer Progressing, Matthew Boyd Further Behind
3 years agoDetroit Tigers right-hander Michael Fulmer (neck) is "doing great" after starting rehab activity early in July, according to manager A.J. Hinch. He's been out since June 27 with a right cervical spine strain. Fulmer must complete a bullpen session this weekend before he's allowed to progress to live batting practice. He recently played long toss at 200 feet without restrictions. Fulmer has made just four starts this year in 25 appearances and has a 3.62 ERA, six walks and 35 K's in 27 1/3 innings in relief. He's also saved six games, which will make him a speculative pickup for high-leverage innings in deeper leagues when he gets closer to a return. Left-hander Matthew Boyd (arm) is "further behind" in the recovery process, but there is no structural damage. He's dealing with muscular tendinitis. Boyd has a 3.44 ERA, 19 walks and 56 strikeouts in 70 2/3 innings over 13 starts this year, and while there isn't a ton of upside, he could have streaming appeal in deeper leagues later this season.
