Michael Busch Starting At Second Against Reds
6 months agoChicago Cubs infielder Michael Busch is making the start at second base on Sunday in the series finale against the Cincinnati Reds and is batting seventh against Reds right-hander Frankie Montas. Busch started one game at second base for the Los Angeles Dodgers last season and 25 games there for Triple-A Oklahoma in 2023. Regular second baseman Nico Hoerner (hand) may be able to avoid a trip to the injured list despite suffering a small fracture in his hand when he was hit by a pitch on Thursday, but Busch could fill in at second for the Cubs until Hoerner is able to return. Busch got off to a sizzling start at the plate this year in his first year in Chicago, but he's slowed down since and is hitting .216 (8-for-37) with a homer, three RBI, 11 walks and 15 K's in 18 games since May 17. He has never faced Montas in his career.
