Mets To Pursue Blake Snell If Yoshinobu Yamamoto Signs Elsewhere
12 months agoThe New York Mets will reportedly target free-agent starting pitcher Blake Snell if they do not end up signing Yoshinobu Yamamoto this offseason. While Yamamoto is the team's top pitching target, his high intrigue and potentially hefty deal could result in the Mets not landing him. Snell is the reigning National League Cy Young winner and put together a 14-9 record with a 2.25 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, 13.3% walk rate, and 31.5% strikeout rate in 32 starts with the Padres. Snell is also reportedly on the radar for the Red Sox, but they are also engaged in talks with Yamamoto. At this point, it seems as though the market for Snell will become clearer once Yamamoto signs with a team.
