Mets Still In The Market For George Springer
4 years agoThe New York Mets Thursday blockbuster trade for shortstop Francisco Lindor and starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco doesn't mean they are out on top free agents such as outfielder George Springer and relief pitcher Liam Hendriks. The Lindor/Carrasco trade could add more than $30 million to the team's 2021 payroll, and the Mets will likely try to sign Lindor to a long-term extension. But the Mets are still projected to have around $32 million to spend before hitting the $210 competitive balance tax threshold. Springer is reportedly seeking well over $150 million, but the team's brass remains optimistic that they will land him in free agency. New York added reliever Trevor May for two years and $15.5 million, but they could still use more bullpen help.
