Mets Imply Roster Spot For Peter Alonso
6 years agoThere are increasing signs that the New York Mets will indeed carry first baseman Peter Alonso on their Opening Day roster. With the season just days away from kicking off, Jed Lowrie and Todd Frazier both remain in injury limbo, opening up a spot for the 24-year-old first baseman. While the Mets haven't specifically stated he had a spot on the roster, manager Mickey Callaway openly spoke with reporters about Alonso being the club's best option as the number two batter in the lineup. Alonso has excelled this Spring, hitting .356 with four home runs and 10 RBI in 19 games. If he indeed makes the roster as expected, look for him to split first base duties with Dominic Smith for the time being.
