Mets Have Been Interested In Kike Hernandez
4 years agoThe New York Mets were very interested in free-agent utility man Kike Hernandez before they fired general manager Jared Porter, but it's hard to say where things stand now. The Boston Red Sox were also among the teams with interest, and Hernandez's versatility makes him attractive to many teams. The 29-year-old has often struggled against right-handed pitching with a career .673 OPS against them. But he can play all around the infield and the outfield and has made at least 10 career starts at five different positions. Hernandez slashed .230/.270/.410 with five home runs and 20 RBI in 139 at-bats over 48 games for the Dodgers in the shortened 2020 season before helping them win a World Series title. If he were to land in New York, Hernandez would likely be a super utilityman and play mostly against southpaws both in the outfield and infield.
