Mets Aggressive On Robinson Cano
The New York Mets are being "aggressive" in their pursuit of Seattle Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano and are hoping the M's sweeten their offer, according to a rival executive in touch with the team. New York is trying to capitalize on Seattle's wish to unload Cano and the remaining $120 million owed to him over the next five years. However, he's 36 years old and is coming off a performance-enhanced drug suspension. The Mets could try to use this deal to rid themselves of outfielder Jay Bruce while also trying to potentially land All-Star closer Edwin Diaz. The Mariners are willing to pay roughly $10 million annually of Cano's remaining contract. It all depends on how desperate Seattle is to move Cano, but he also has a full no-trade clause, which could complicate matters. Cano hit well when he returned from his suspension and could use a change of scenery.
