Mets Acquire Vinny Nittoli From Cubs
1 year agoThe New York Mets acquired right-hander Vinny Nittoli from the Chicago Cubs on Friday, according to a source. Nittoli was in limbo after opting out of his minor-league deal on Thursday, but he'll now head to the Mets' 40-man roster and can be optioned. The 32-year-old had posted a 3.48 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, seven walks and 22 strikeouts in 20 2/3 relief innings over 16 outings out of the bullpen for Triple-A Iowa this year. He's made only three relief appearances in the big leagues for the Seattle Mariners and Philadelphia Phillies in the last two seasons, allowing two runs on one hit (a homer) while walking three and striking out two in three frames. Nittoli will likely be reporting to Triple-A Syracuse.
