Max Scherzer's ERA Steadily Climbing Every Month
6 years agoWashington Nationals ace pitcher Max Scherzer is one of the most dominant strikeout artists in the game, but a telling statistic is being revealed this year. Scherzer's earned run average has risen every month of the 2018 season. In April, his ERA ended at 1.91. In May, 2.21. In June, it rose just .10 points to 2.31, and in July it skyrocketed to 3.18. That said, it's the first year since he signed with Washington that his ERA has risen like clockwork each month. Owners will have to wait and see if this trend is just a blip on the radar, or if he's set for a rocky second half of the season. His last start of July though, speaks to the former; he allowed one unearned run in eight innings and struck out 11 batters. He has a ridiculous 200 strikeouts already this season, making him a premier starter in fantasy regardless of what his monthly ERA is.
