Max Scherzer Shelled In No-Decision Thursday

Washington Nationals starting pitcher Max Scherzer took a no-decision and lasted only 3 2/3 innings after surrendering seven earned runs, five hits and one walk during a 9-8 walk-off loss to the San Diego Padres on Thursday. The 36-year-old was spotted an 8-0 lead before exiting the game after serving up all seven runs in the fourth. The nightmare inning was punctuated by a stunning grand slam off the bat of Padres relief pitcher Daniel Camarena. Scherzer is now 7-4 with a 2.66 ERA, career-best 0.88 WHIP and 134 strikeouts over 98 innings. The three-time Cy Young winner will look for revenge after the All-Star break, as the Nationals will host the Padres during the first series after the midsummer classic.
