Matthieu Pavon Continues To Impress
9 months agoAlthough a Sunday 70 saw the Frenchman fall nearly 20 spots on the final leaderboard, Matthieu Pavon's debut in the Sunshine State was far from a fruitless endeavor. Pavon spent most of the week sitting inside the top 15 and continued a stellar combination of precise ball-striking and sublime putting that has allowed him to take the early lead in the season-long FedEx Cup Standings. This week, Pavon will face one of the stiffer tests professional golf has to offer at Arnold Palmer's Invitational at Bay Hill. This 7460-yard behemoth is known for its demanding combination of long par fours, thick rough, and lightning-quick Bermuda greens. However, Pavon fared very well around a similarly difficult layout earlier this season at Torrey Pines: winning his first PGA Tour Title at one of the few courses with a longer routing than we'll see at Bay Hill this week. Time will tell just how sustainable this hot run of form will be out of the 31-year-old, but recent returns give us no indication that Pavon's Player of the Year case is going anywhere anytime soon.
