Matthew Stafford Has Disastrous Opener
6 years agoDetroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford struggled mightily against the New York Jets on Monday night. He finished 27-of-46 for 286 yards, while throwing just one touchdown and four interceptions. It couldn't have been a worse start to the season for the 10th-year-man, as the Lions lost 48-17 after trailing 17-10 at halftime. Stafford and company came out from the break and needed just four plays to go 75 yards, before he connected with Golden Tate for a 24-yard touchdown to tie it up. It went downhill from there, as the Jets rattled off 31 unanswered points, including a Stafford interception that was ran back for a touchdown. He was eventually replaced with Matt Cassel in the fourth quarter. The Lions' starter will look to get back on track in Week 2 against the 49ers.
