Matt Vierling Returns On Wednesday
Matt Vierling (foot) is back in the starting lineup on Wednesday against the hosting Minnesota Twins, playing third base and batting leadoff against Twins rookie right-hander David Festa, who will be making just his second major-league start. Giovanny Urshela will move across the diamond to first base and will bat in the eight-hole. Vierling was held out of the starting lineup in each of the last two games due to soreness in his left foot. The 27-year-old will return to a .250/.285/.437 slash line with a .722 OPS, 10 home runs, 33 RBI and 35 runs scored for the Tigers in 268 at-bats this year. Vierling struggled in the month of June, hitting .188 (19-for-101) with three home runs, four doubles, a triple, five RBI, five walks and 25 strikeouts in 24 games played. He'll be hoping to turn things around in his first game in July on Wednesday.
