Matt McLain, Jake Fraley Expected To Be Fine
1 year agoCincinnati Reds manager David Bell said that second baseman Matt McLain (shoulder) and outfielder Jake Fraley (groin) should both be fine. McLain was scratched from Monday's Cactus League lineup due to left-shoulder soreness, while Fraley was removed from the game early after fouling a pitch off a sensitive area. McLain is scheduled to be back in the spring lineup on Wednesday, but the Reds may give him another day just to be safe. The 24-year-old has played in just five Cactus League games this spring due to an oblique injury that he also dealt with last year. But he should be ready for Opening Day on March 28 and is going to be the Reds' starting second baseman. Fraley has mixed-league value in the strong-side of a platoon because he mashes right-handers.

TJ Friedl, Jake Fraley Sitting Against Southpaw
4 days agoCincinnati Reds outfielders TJ Friedl and Jake Fraley are not in the starting lineup on Sunday as the Reds will face San Francisco southpaw Robbie Ray. Friedl has started in each of the first two games of the series in center field. Serving as the leadoff man, he went 2-for-9 at the plate with an RBI. As a result, Blake Dunn will cover center field, but Matt McLain will move up to the top of the order. Fraley has also started in each of the first two contests but did not tally a hit. He will be replaced by Santiago Espinal in right field, and he will bat second. Fantasy managers should expect both Fraley and Friedl to return to the starting nine on Monday when they face Texas right-hander Kumar Rocker. Espinal and Dunn are best to fade in DFS this afternoon, facing Ray.

Jake Fraley Reinstated And Starting On Sunday
7 months agoThe Cincinnati Reds reinstated outfielder Jake Fraley (knee) from the 10-day injured list on Sunday and designated right-hander David Buchanan for assignment in a corresponding move. The team also activated left-hander Brent Suter (shoulder) from the 15-day IL and left-hander Brandon Williamson (shoulder) from the 60-day IL. Fraley is right back in the starting lineup in the series finale against the division-rival Milwaukee Brewers and right-hander Tobias Myers, starting in right field and batting sixth in the order. The 29-year-old left-handed-hitting outfielder will return to a platoon role in Cincy's outfield now that he's recovered from his knee sprain and can be useful down the stretch for his speed (16 steals this year). Fraley has battled an assortment of injuries in 2024 and only has 273 total at-bats, hitting .271 with three homers and 23 RBI.

Jake Fraley On Track To Return This Saturday
7 months agoCincinnati Reds manager David Bell said that outfielder Jake Fraley (knee) is on track to return from the 10-day injured when he's first eligible this Saturday. "He's still on track to get back the day he's available to come back. He had a knee sprain. He had a couple issues in there. Whatever they were able to give to him to help calm that down could help him get back hitting by the end of the week. The 31st is the first day he's eligible to come back," Bell said. Fraley will return to the strong side of a platoon in right field for the Reds against right-handed pitching, giving him some value in deeper fantasy leagues, mainly for his speed. The 29-year-old left-handed hitter has been battling various injuries for most of 2024 and has hit .271 (74-for-273) with 16 steals but only three homers and 23 RBI in 92 games played. He's hit .233 (10-for-43) with two doubles, four RBI, two steals and 11 K's in 14 games in August.

Jake Fraley Lands On 10-Day Injured List
7 months agoThe Cincinnati Reds announced on Thursday that they placed outfielder Jake Fraley (knee) on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to Aug. 21) with a right-knee sprain and signed first baseman Dominic Smith to a one-year major-league deal in a corresponding move. The club also designated right-hander Brooks Kriske for assignment. Fraley will require yet another trip to the IL in an injury-plagued 2024 season for the 29-year-old left-handed swinger. The move comes after he was scratched from Wednesday's lineup. In his absence, the lefty-hitting Will Benson figures to see more playing time in the outfield, at least against right-handed pitching. Benson, a former first-rounder, has plenty of power to spare but is hitting just .189 (57-for-302), adding 12 homers and 14 steals. Eleven of his 12 dingers in 2024 have come against righties.
