Matt Manning Optioned To Triple-A After Friday's Start
3 years agoDetroit Tigers starting pitcher Matt Manning put together a decent outing in Friday's game against the Minnesota Twins. He pitched five innings and allowed two hits, three walks and two earned runs while striking out three. He wound up suffering the loss as the Tigers fell 4-2 in the game. After the game, Manning was optioned to Triple-A Toledo. However, it sounds as if he could be brought back up after the All-Star break. Tigers manager A.J. Hinch noted that Manning could start in the team's series against the Texas Rangers that begins on July 19. Manning had really struggled in his previous two outings. He couldn't make it through the third inning in his last outing and he allowed nine earned runs in the one before that. Overall, through five career starts, Manning now has an ugly 6.95 ERA and 1.59 WHIP to go along with just nine strikeouts over 22 innings.
