Matt Kuchar Struggling Coming Into Carnoustie
6 years agoMatt Kuchar rolls into the Open Championship this year showing very minimal form. The cut-making machine has missed two straight cuts in a row, which is the first time since 2011 that the American hasn't made the weekend in back-to-back events he has played. On top of struggling with his game, Kuchar may have to overcome some demons that he suffered at last year's Open Championship at Royal Birkdale. The 40-year-old experienced one of the most heartbreaking losses at the hands of Jordan Spieth you have ever seen. After Spieth bogeyed the 13th hole on Sunday to give Kuchar a one-shot lead with five holes to play, it appeared as if the grizzled veteran was finally going to get the monkey off of his back and capture his first Major. But in classic Spieth fashion, he closed the show with three birdies and one eagle, essentially stealing the trophy from his hard-luck American counterpart. Kuchar has far too often been on the wrong side of luck in prominent events, and despite his happy-go-lucky demeanor, we think what happened to him last year at Royal Birkdale will eventually weigh on his mind at some point during Carnoustie.
