Matt Carpenter Expects to Play on Saturday
5 years agoUpdating a previous post, St. Louis Cardinals infielder Matt Carpenter (back) referred to being scratched from Wednesday's Grapefruit League lineup as "super preventative" and says he expects to play on Saturday. Carpenter was removed from the lineup just a few minutes before the first pitch of Wednesday's game, but apparently it's not much of a concern. He did miss some time due to injury last season and has dealt with back injuries for several years now, but it seems like he'll be good to go for the weekend and should be fine for Opening Day, assuming no further setbacks. Carpenter struggled in 2019 but could be a decent source of offense in deeper mixed leagues if he can stay on the field in 2020.
